Great video mate! The 185s and Nova 2s are my favourite TPE trains. I felt you were too harsh on the poor 185s🤣 in regards to the seats that's down to DFT speccing them more firm to comply with the newer fire regulations.
Thanks for your usual quirky and amusing review. I didn't know that service stopped at St Helen's, where I have friends, so could use the train to get there rather than drive. I agree with you that modern trains in Britain have woeful luggage space. But that's the train company's fault, not CAFs, or whoever the builder is, as the former should be specifying the interior fittings. Of course, maybe train bosses never travel long distance by train, so they have no idea what conditions are like!!
Yeah, I'd read somewhere that the DfT basically set the standards for required seating etc as part of their contract agreement. It's a shambles, but ehh, they want to squeeze as much money out of the trains as they can
The Class 802 Nova 1 and Class 397 Nova 2 are very nice. Same with the Class 185.

I like the Nova 2’s, very light and spacious with plenty of tables. Sadly, the ride is a bit firm and jittery. You’re dead right about the seats; far too hard and upright. I had back pain after a M.Airport-Glasgow trip.
For some reason TPE fares between M.Airport and Scotland are dirt cheap, but Liverpool costs way more?!

I did a video btwn Glasgow and Carlisle recently with TPE and the air con was faulty apart from that it left on time not cancelled and even had a food trolley, the video is on my other channel titled "ventures Trans Pennine Challenge" I'd rather use NAT ex for future good old faithful
CAF really dropped the ball on the north of England. Hard uncomfortable seating and boulder like ride quality. The nova 2s look so good though 😭. Great video as per

Also fun fact these 397s cannot get to full mainline speed as the train does not tilt, a max of 110mph
