I had no idea. I was like level 8z I spent 5 hours straight cheesing the death claws until I was able to kill them all. I experienced a “ghost death claw” it disappeared, and the only way to hurt it was to physically hit it. Luckily it glitching out caused most of its moves not to hit so I just had a save ready for when it did manage to hit me. I play hard mode so I got one shot
At the end of Lonesome Road DLC, after one area of the LR Map has been nuked, you can find a ton of irradiated deathclaws there, super powerful and far stronger and more numerous than the Quarry Junction ones. I always treated that as my final test for how strong I could get, my end goal across three different characters was to get completely nekkid, grab the Bowie Knife you can find in that DLC, then go into that location to kill all of the deathclaws there.
Unarmed+VATS will always be hilarious. You teleport around your enemy like you just learned the arts of Saiyan Speed which tends to have your enemies miss, on top of taking reduced damage in VATS
I've always hesitated to do an entirely unarmed build because it feels less like strategy/positioning/aim and more like turning into the Mojave equivalent of a fucking super saiyan
I've always gravitated towards unarmed/melee builds because I much prefer working my way up to an enemy to put them on the back foot. There's an equal amount of strategy on both ends. I'd actually say positioning is much more important with pure melee because you can't just switch to a gun with better range and hunker down in one spot. Each enemy is it's own maneuvering game.

Fun fact: Near the goodsprings you can grab a shovel. Shovel has a special attack that knocks down enemy on EVERY SINGLE HIT you do with it. Combine this with superslam and stonewall and you will win every single fight 1v1 as long as you'll land your first special before you die.
@@Shiroi_Okami_44 IIRC shovel is hugging the wall of one off the outer houses (The ones that are closer to graveyard). Which is very convenient for some early graverobbing (Which has good chances to reward you with either spare 9mm pistol or .357 revolver. If you get the latter, don't shy away from stealing the one in Trudy's saloon (Check out the glass near the bottles). With some specific leveling and Sunny Smiles lockpicking magazine on top of early comprehension perk you can actually get the Lucky revolver as you start solving Primm issues. This one will get you smooth ride to either That Gun or Ratslayer - and these will get you to Hanlon. Once you get that Ranger Sequoia, the world is your oyster.
I love how the Alpha froze like a statue on the first hit and then just fell over. It's like you struck his pressure points to freeze him and then finished him off Kenshiro-style.
I don't know how or if this was a glitch for my file, but I had one of those and like 90% of the time I would do the uppercut move when I attacked. I also swung faster than a normal saturnite fist or a regular powerfist
For me it’s greased lightning, combine it with perks that increase your attack speed such as “slayer” and “ain’t like that now”, you’ve got a weapon that attacks INSANELY fast. Combine it with super slam and some damage increasing perks there is literally nothing that can stand in your way
Dude really let the Alpha D walk right up to him, let Big Iron start, and then dropped like 4 anvils on the lizard without using gravity, complete with sound effects.
One of my favorite playthroughs started as a pyromaniac build, but towards the end I unintentionally powergamed into a monstrous unarmed build with the superheated saturnite power fist (it recieves the damage bonus from pyro), a full suit of enclave armor, and a slight playermodel size increase to really channel Frank Horrigan vibes as I looked down upon everyone save the super mutants. Camp McCarren was my favorite stomping ground; the soldiers there are just weak enough to be instantly gibbed by a crit legion assualt attack.
first character I ever beat the game with I went out of my way to get Love and Hate ASAP and used them for essentially the entire game. Unarmed is so fun when you build for it.
I love how the first punch is always to their non-existent balls, and then they just lock up like: "Nah man, just kill me. I don't wanna live after that violation."
Unarmed build in Fallout NV was extremely satisfying. I mostly used Love & Hate and sometimes Golden gloves for giggles. Cazadores were the only enemies I had trouble fighting.
Try it again with pushy, it probably triples/quadruples the distance they fly. After the Holorifle it’s my favorite weapon in the game specifically for that reason
Unarmed in 3 and New Vegas are so much fun. And doing Dead Money as an unarmed character is an entirely different experience. The Ghost people of The Sierra Madre become significantly less scary when you can one shot them with a bear trap fist 😂
in fallout 4 I was going for an unarmed build and then I found the world series bat and that was the only melee weapon I ever needed. Nothing to me will ever top hitting a home run with an enemy with the mysterious stranger shooting them mid- air
I did this in Fallout 3... Decided to take on a Super Mutant Behemoth with my power fist and paralysing palm perk. It took awhile, but I eventually punched him to death.

I equally enjoy a melee weapon build with the tribal club from Honest Hearts, and the slayer perk. DPS is fast enough on that the first person animation can't keep up lol
Ive always wished clearing out the junction would grant you some extra dialogue or fear against any fiends or legions, like imagine having one guy just give a haymaker to a mother deathclaw, like at that point you probably would want to remain on their goodside
I got my hands on a red robe and a crazy OP energy weapon in 4. Mars is missing a techpriest, but he is currently having way too much fun obliterating every threat in the Commonwealth to want to be found.
Is the power fist this strong? I remember that whenever I tried going melee Deathclaws would shred me, I had to always stealth snipe with a Gauss rifle.
it's not the power fist but a combo of a few different unarmed perks that massively increase your output damage. I went through an unarmed build a few weeks ago and they get so much more powerful taking all the unarmed perks.
Basically yes add no. A dedicated unarmed+melee build gets you an absolute goliath of a character especially if you go for a superheated saturnite fist and invest in energy weapons for that sweet perk that upgrades flame weapons dmg (works with this too and bumps the numbers up by a stupid big margin) Plus, VATS gives all melee and unarmed doubling the damage, bit it's equally as broken when you just go full jojo on enemies with attack speed perk and some fast unarmed weapon, plus it's outright hilarious at times But of you skimp out on the dedicated progression or don't get the knockdown perk the only pain you will be bringing is the one upon yourself, and that applies even to busted weapons like chainsaw or heatlance, which ignore DT and DR. Basically you CAN cheese something with ranged on a melee build with a crapton of ammo, but not vice versa. Going melee in NV is a dedication that really pays off
Unharmed in early game: Please don't kill me, i have nothing! Unharmed in endgame: Become SSJ just because there is one enemy that disturbing your peace by moving closer to you
One of my favourite memories of this game was doing the legendary deathclaw cave with a full unarmed build, no vats, just spamming chems and ripping everything to shreds.

Use light armor, get Travel Light perk and Cazadores are extremely easy to kill. You can easily farm them as soon as you're level 4.

Basically you CAN cheese something with ranged on a melee build with a crapton of ammo, but not vice versa. Going melee in NV is a dedication that really pays off

One of my favourite memories of this game was doing the legendary deathclaw cave with a full unarmed build, no vats, just spamming chems and ripping everything to shreds.
I cant stop laughing over how the second one just freezes and falls like a statue before the final punch
