What hits me is that she uses her body to animate her partner's body after he has died in an attempt to "bring him back to life"... the story being told is that this would be her last chance to interact with him in the ways they perhaps had when he was living: i.e fighting, rolling around, dancing, kissing, sitting together, etc. All of the emotions that took place between the two of them when he was alive. Like we are watching the life of their relationship flash before our eyes. We see her conflicting desire to touch his body but also being scared of it because it's not him anymore, how she expresses anger, passion and love towards the body. All so very understandable, touching and eerily haunting at the same time.
The bloke is cocaine. For a fleeting moment there, it may give you a bit of comfort, but keep trying with it and it goes nowhere. Stick with the beer and just bump a bit of coke if you get too pissed :)
For me its about addiction and slowly severing a piece of ourselves from another piece of ourselves. Letting go of what's "dead" and what isn't useful for us to survive in a world that is doing its best to numb us out like the male figure already is

They could not have found better dancers for this. They are INCREDIBLE. Truly. Gorgeous and fluid. What gorgeousness. You feel her pain and panic. Alt-J never ever fail.

I kept waiting for a happy ending with baited breath, full well knowing it was not going to happen. Still loved it. I have not been able to get this song out of my head since I first heard it when the album came out but I'm not complaining. It's such a mesmerising tune with such melancholy lyrics. Can't beat those jangly guitars. Simply the best thing I've heard in a decade - as is the entire album.

I have endured much pain which has made me stronger but I also learned that I will not allow myself to be a doormat passed the point I can tolerate. This is where we are today. I DO love him oh so dearly but if the balance is offset again I will walk. One can only give so much of themselves away before being the fool to themselves. A fool I will not be again.

Hey there's a word for a dead language that I'm going to condense this into a nutshell of the cliff notes of a condensed long story short it's from dead language word to people walk by each other and look into each other's eyes boom spark or no spark.. I'm really really really not going to detail here but what if they ignited that spark? It's the what ifs what path could have they pleased together where I might have their Stars aligned and intersected and ran parallel and possibly turned into a supernova or whatever?.. we will never know because that moment was passed by and they kept walking I picked you for a reason or part on the table I can't remember why I kept scrolling and I stopped on you because you stood out from the pack somehow and sex drugs and rock and roll gets to eventually IE me and sing this now but I appreciate your point of view so another day and wonderland another dollar in Hollywood I guess this is just another example of something I always sign off by saying kindness is key and love is the law and then I throw in a couple meows and howls...

The song, with its infectious beat, to the poetic lyrics and unrelenting vibe. To the video, with its bittersweet, heartbreaking visuals, faultless choreography and wide, disorienting shots. All takes you to a vast foreign place I don’t know, but want to live in. alt-J you’re something very amazing.
The contemporary in this video has a strong message. Your dead weight to me but I can’t you let you go.

A genius piece of art.
I just watched the video a good couple of times and from what I see the girl just went through the grief phase.
1) Surprise or fear.
2) Anger -> She drags him and moves him hard, for falling into overdose.
3) Bargaining -> She dances with him and carries him, saying in a way, "Relax, I can carry you for the rest of your life".
4) depression -> Perform a little dance with him and drop him.
5) acceptance -> sits on him and drinks.
If I'd kept practicing to act like I was dead when I tried to fool my sisters at 5, I could be that good, as the actor one day, and finally made them believe that I was dead haha! Besides that, every inch of my body filled with admiration. Fascinating music video and the song of course!
Alt -J are insanely good. They are almost like an upbeat Radiohead. Very experimental with each album yet still sounds so themselves and always excellent.

Great song! Alt-J music never disappoints. I'm sure I heard the word cocaine mentioned enough times to assume this was about cocaine overdose. She woke up from her "high" but he didn't and then the knowledge of that sinks in and she begins to freak out.
