"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
    “Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on UA-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on UA-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

We've signed up to this SHlT with submarines and jet fighters and all sorts of stuff.
A few months ago it turned out we hired a bunch of ex-ES Navy admirals to "consult."
They are being paid between AU$1.2 and AU$2 million a year, and some of them have been here for over 10 years.
      SO FAR
      - Nobody has explained why we, the people of Australia are paying several billion dollars to fix one of your shipyards.
      - Nobody has explained how we are going to crew these submarines which require more than double the number of people than our current submarines.
      - Nobody has explained the costs which are a staggering AU$268 Billion.
For each sub there's over $20 Billion unaccounted for and that's on the lower estimate.
On the upper estimate its over AU$35 Billion.

We’re not helpless, we’re the shareholders, the problem is that we’ve somehow been convinced that the issue is: gay rights, states rights, abortion, blm, blue lives, the government deficit, etc, etc, etc. If we the people ever actually aligned and agreed on something you’d be surprised how easily we could implement broad sweeping changes. "The Pentagon still doesn't know where all those WW2 era rifle rounds are."
The story is much less interesting when you actually know what's happening. It's not an expenditure audit, it's a property audit, and as it turns out the largest land owner in the world that has more than 200 years of property on the books, much of which was literally build in secret, some of which like Area 51 is still heavily secret today, they have a hard time accounting for their entire net worth.
Oh, and the overwhelming majority of their net worth is locked up in things that aren't available on any market, so good luck appraising any of it accurately anyway.
The single largest correction from the last audit to this recent one was that literal pre-WW1 artillery shells were still listed in their assets, but the gunpowder in those shells would have decomposed long ago, and at some point in the past someone signed off on disposing of it all, so they were listed in assets but the military couldn't find them. They have now been crossed off of the military's assets, and so are that much closer to being able to account for all of their claimed assets.
      Wow, so shocking, such controversy.

The problem is your binary voting system - corporate Dems and Reps just keep handing the baton off to each other, and both sides make sure no idealist like Bernie ever gets a nomination. You need proportional representation, so that more parties can get into the mix.

    • @williamhansen9456
      @williamhansen9456 7 місяців тому +3

Both of your parties are funded by the same companies and their agendas are therefore indistinguishable from one another.
The only difference between the parties are their voter demographies. This is why they keep escalating the culture wars.
@lenkacfk7155 is right you need a unicameral parliament with proportional representation.
The biggest problem with that is that the people with the power to change the system are the politicians, none of whom has any reasons to change the system that is working so well for them.
The oligarchs running your country are addicted to economical growth which depends on a combination of rising consumption per capita and a rise in population. Americans are already consuming so much that nobody is expecting consumption per capita to significantly increase.
So population growth is what they need. If you want to change the system you need to hurt it and the only way you can do that is by leaving.
However the U.S. is one of 2 countries that demand their citizens pay income tax to them even when living and working in another country, so you'd have to also change your citizenship in order for this to have any effect.

I worked for a government contractor in the aerospace industry for 10 years. If we had flunked an audit, we would have been debarred. There wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that we would have just gone on like it was all OK. "Debarred" status assigned to an entity means that the entity can't do business with the government, or any other government contractor. The length of time this status is imposed varies. It can even be indefinite. To have this happen is pretty much a kiss of death for that entity.

They are not actually failing audits. The "missing" funds are used to fund black sites and classified R&D. It's disingenuous to pretend like they are just losing all that money. They know exactly where it went.

Either this is true, or they are absolutely horrible at book-keeping and there would likely be plenty on their payroll taking advantage of it. If the former, I can sort of see why they feel they can't divulge certain things, and if the latter... then Kyle is right - some people should be in jail.

All the things they want to cut, pass their audits every year. I think we should cut the budget for the administrations that can't pass an audit.

    • @ASDeckard
      @ASDeckard 7 місяців тому

The Pentagon does pass it's *budget* audit. This is an *assets* audit, and may of those assets pre-date WW1, and many more are spread across 81 nations and almost none of it is available on open markets, so good luck coming up with a good evaluation of anythings value in the first place.

I was in the USAF from 94-14, then federal work. Right now, I work in a double wide trailer, that was drop in place in the early 80s. Last two days the toilet was frozen. We move 50gl drums of oil and other heavy items all week. Last week they took our vehicle that has a lift gate. Basically by leadership, been told to figure it out. But the Pentagon had missing money and US has the largest military budget in the world.
