I hope you realize this Mike. Your talent is certainly an immense factor on the success of your channel. Your modesty, kindness, and soft spoken demeanor are also huge factors. The bowl is without question beautiful. Hold on tight mate, 20k here we come.
Oh mate, you made me tear up then, dam you lol 😀. I love it that so many people are watching my work but responding to 400 comments a day can get a little time consuming 😀
Spot on, K9. Well said.
Absolutely agree. 👽
Agree wholeheartedly 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Definitely knobs on!
I appreciate that you're willing to try things on camera without testing them first. It's great to see you adjust on the fly. The journey is always as interesting than the destination. Thanks for sharing!
Haha, where is the fun doing something I know will work after having already done it 😀, makes it more exciting if we can all find out together 😀
The use of different materials is amazing. The bowl turned out perfectly. In my opinion this the best wood turning channel that is on UA-cam.
Wow, thank you Rex, all I need is everyone else to find out 😀 all the best, Mike
So pretty! You have every right to be proud of that! The winner of that bowl is very fortunate 😊
Thank you! 😊 I would have loved to have kept this one lol
The Soapstone and Brass inlay turned out absolutely beautiful! You should be very proud of yourself! You are an amazing artist, Mike!
Thanks Mary, I class myself and being very lucky 😀 All the best, Mike
It's a beautiful bowl. I would not have thought of using stone before watching this. Thank you.
Thanks Tom, hope it's given you a few ideas, all the best, Mike
What a stunning, beautiful bowl. Whoever wins will certainly be blessed to have this piece in their home to share with family and friends.
Thanks Aaron, must admit I would love to have kept this one 😀
That is unreasonably gorgeous. The way the wood grain just popped when you wiped it with isopropyl alcohol was jaw-dropping. The combination of the white gray chalk against that wood was even more gorgeous.
Thanks so much, I really love the way this one came out 😀
This is absolutely gorgeous. The winner is very fortunate to have such a piece of art in their home. ❤❤❤
Thanks John, I had no idea if this would work but it did and the soapstone came out way better than I could have hoped for 😀
I really appreciate your step by step commentary. Your talent is amazing. If you take care of your home, wife and/or children the same attentive way you treat your tools & projects, they are lucky indeed!
You have amazing attention to detail.
Thanks Denise, I do my best, my wife and I have 4 kids between us and we also foster 2 amazing sisters
That is wonderful. I was holding my breath a few times but you made it! Go you!
Best Wishes, Brendan.
Thanks Brendan, me too, I still have no idea how that actually worked!
I just found your channel last week, and I am beyond impressed with the talent that you have.
Welcome aboard! and thank you 😀
This looks like a wooden bowl Rituals would use in advertisements to show off their most luxurious products. Absolutely gorgeous
Thanks so much Kevin 😀
Congratulations Mike on your 10,000 subscribers! You are surprised at how fast you have reached ten thousand subscribers, but we are not. You are an amazing artist! This bowl is insanely beautiful! I would love to win this bowl to put into my new home! It would be centre stage on my coffee table for all to admire. ❤ I absolutely love how the soapstone contrasts with the brass and the chatoyance of this gorgeous wood. ❤ Totally stunning!

Thanks so much Shelley, I'm gathering that you like my work lol. I really do appreciate your words and your support, all the best and thanks. Mike 😀
Mike - everything about that bowl is absolutely gorgeous - what a beautifully balanced design - but that tiny little brass highlight is the cherry on the cake for me. Well done mate!!!
Many thanks my friend, all the best, Mike 😀
Mike it looks great thanks for all your videos as a new woodworker a few years ago I'm now 67 you are an inspiration and I thank you for all your tips
You are so welcome Doug, all the best, Mike
Never really thought I'd be into a channel about wood turning on a lathe, but between the beauty of these bowls vases and really everything you do and you're kind demeanor can't stop watching your videos. Congrats on 10,000! I hope you go far 🙏
Wow, thank you! That's so nice of you to say 😊
That may be the most beautiful bowl I've seen turned on UA-cam.
Wow thanks Shawn 😊
Mike, that is absolutely beautiful. You are very creative and it shows through your turnings. I am sure whomever wins this will treasure it.
You never know Dana, it may be you 😀

Hello from the states. That is an absolutely gorgeous piece you created. Stunning!
Thank you very much Eric 😊
What can I say Mike ! Yet another stunning beauty. Your design ideas are fantastic. That's what I lack, design ideas, and so get ideas from Christine and amazing ones from your videos
It just takes a bit of research, practice and an open mind. All the best, Mike
Congratulations on the 10,000 subscribers! Judging by your work you'll be at 1 million in no time! Let's get you there!
I'd really like this bowl. So finger's crossed.
Good luck 🤞
What a clever and artistic way to add an inlay to this bowl! It turned out beautifully!
Thanks, I'm still amazed it actually worked 🤣
Stunning! I have no experience in woodturning, but am completely mesmerized watching you work. Thank you for sharing your artistry.
Thank you very much Susan, and thanks so much for your support, all the best, Mike
Mike this is amazing! My heart was in my throat during most of the turning. Your talent is a joy to see. Wow something to watch and gorgeous sir!
Glad you enjoyed it Beth, I was on edge the whole time, I was sure it would fly apart! 🤣
As you noted. The contrasts between the wood, soapstone, and brass are truly beautiful. Great piece, Mike. I hope to win it.
Good luck Jonathan, you are in with a chance 😀
Wow! What a beautiful bowl. Your talent and craftsmanship are spectacular. Anyone should be proud to own and display such an outstanding bowl.
Thank you so much 😀, all the best, Mike
That is one of the most by pieces I’ve ever seen. I’d just love to hug it!❤
Thanks so much Anne 😀
Lol, don’t cry, I have enjoyed the last fifteen months. You have been a pleasure to watch!
Thanks so much my friend 😀
Still making those experiments work good for you and it looks fab
Haha I got lucky with this one 🤣
You can’t beat fear assisted turning. This is stunning of course bravo.
Haha thanks 🤣
Just recently started watching these videos, some fantastic thoughts behind the finished product, every one a gem. Never seen wood, stone and metal in a bowl before, wonderful.
Thanks, not sure if it have ever been tried before to be honest 🤣
I love the wood you chose. Very rich in color. The soap stone really sets off the beauty of the wood. You do such interesting work.
Thank you so much Mary 😀
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time... that turned out to be a stunning piece !!!
Thanks so much, I was sure it would fall apart at any time 😄
Once again you have broadened my horizons. You sir are a star. Thank you.
Wow, thanks George 😀
Stunning. And I love how you stop throughout to explain your thought process.
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it 😀
The soapstone and brass inlay is so beautiful. I was sitting on the edge of my chair as you were turning off the edges as I really did not want to see it fly apart and ruin your work.
Nicely done!
Haha that made two of us 😀 thanks so much
Wow, that came out great! I was quite scared it would fall apart while turning the interior 🙈 but your braveness paid of an you made a beautiful bowl! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks so much! 😊 I was scared the whole time 😅
The bowl looks really nice, the two brass lines add so much to the bowl, great, clever stuff.
Thank you very much! 😁
An artistic mind combined with the patience of turning wood into beautiful crafts. Well done sir
Thank you very much Tim, All the best, Mike
I can't believe how beautiful this bowl turned out! I would love this bowl!
Me too! but I can't keep it lol 😀
I have been enjoying your work immensely. You are producing beautiful outstanding work and still remain humble
Thank you so much Donna 😀 I'm no where near a great turner but I do try really hard lol 😊
Stumbled onto your channel, and I am so glad I did! Absolutly blown away at how the bowl turned out, you do fantastic work and I can see your love and passion for your craft. I can't wait for the next video!
Thanks and welcome 😀, next bowl is done and it's a more natural form
I do like the deep darkness of that dark wood, especially when you applied the finish, Mike and the design is stunning. My wife prefers chunky bowls and it’s her birthday on the 20th. 🌞
Haha, was that a subtle hint Ray 🤣
I stumbled across your channel this morning. I have been watching several woodturning channels from different parts of the world for quite a while and was instantly captivated by your story telling technique and skill. I have since watch a few more of your videos and have subscribed. Thanks for being that little bit different.
Thank you very much! That is very kind of you to say, I just try and keep everything light hearted and fun, this is my passion and I never intend to take it or myself too seriously. All the best, Mike
Mike, the subscriber count has really hit 'lift off', which is so well deserved, Sir. In an earlier comment you are likened to Bob Ross, the artist and, I guess, pioneer of videos and that is 'spot on' ... high praise indeed and totally merited. You will be too modest to accept the praise, but worthy of it just the same. I felt the jeopardy of this bowl with you, and shared your relief; it is another idiosyncratic combination of materials and another masterpiece. Thank you.
Thanks so much David, so many nice comments! I'm still a beginner to all this and have a lot to learn, just so humbled at all the support, it's kind of mind blowing! All the best, Mike
That was a great idea to add the soap stone to the bowl. Such a beautiful bowl. Always a pleasure watching you work.
Thank you so much 😀
I didn't think I'd love it but the final piece is quite nice. The subtle brass is very appealing.
Thanks 👍, Mike 😁
I would have never attempted the use of soap stone like that. Great work. Turned out just amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much! 🙂
Mike once again you have shonw your talent as not just a wood turner, but a trune master and artist. I am sure thst you have inspired many people to start turning or try some of your ideas. 🎉
Wow, thanks and I hope so in some way, I just love what I do and want to share my passion, all the best, Mike 😀
Just a great woodworking channel with a great host… Unbelievable talent… And a perfect eye for a beauty and elegance!
Wow, thank you! That is if you were talking about me 😀
This was amazing to watch. The first time I watched it without sound because it was just enjoyable. I didn’t realize you were doing a giveaway!! It’s beautiful and I hope the winner enjoys it!!
You never know Erik, it could be you!
Fantastic! While the brass and stone are gorgeous, that wood is absolutely phenomenal.
Thank you very much, all the best, Mike
This is one of the nicest pieces I have seen, where you get your ideas from is completely astounding, I think this is one of the best you tube channels going, everything you do you explain it so well, I really believe that this channel will grow and grow, well done sir you deserve it.
Thanks so much Robert, it is a dream of mine to perhaps be able to do this full time. I retire in about 13 years so it will happen then 😀
Lovely bowl the insert is gorgeous lucky subscriber who won it. And to think now there are 32000 subscribers well done Mike.
Thanks Shirley, 32k is a lot of people, I still think I'll wake up and it will all have been a dream 😀
This is gorgeous Mike! The soapstone looks like marble. Whoever wins this will be very lucky!
Thanks Karen, you never know, it could be you 😁
Love your work, Mike, and love how relaxed I feel when watching your content.
I never imagined wood turning could be so mesmerising!
Thank you very much! That is so nice of you to say 😀
Congratulations Mr. Mike, I'm a machinist who runs CNC/manual lathes. That's production. This is art, and master craftmanship. Good on ya mate!
Thank you so very much! 😀
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for taking us along in your journey!
You are so welcome Donna, so glad it worked 😁
I love this, who would have though French chalk could be so beautiful, those greens complement the brass and the wood. Great work.
Thank you so much! Came out way better than I expected
Mike I have to praise you and your creativity. I love your “experiment’s”, especially if it all comes together as you planned🥰.. Keep it up and before you know it you are on the 20k 💪💪💪
Hi there 😀 thanks so much, I think I got very lucky on this one, 20k used to feel so far away but I think a year or two my get me there lol, or I'll wake up and this will all be a dream 😀
Wow. That looks so very nice. There's something very elegant, or maybe tasteful, about that design. The metal banding is such a tiny yet impactful detail. I hope it goes to a good home.
Thanks and I hope so too, all the best, Mike
Understated and sophisticated. Just lovely.
Thanks so much 😃
I wouldn't have thought soap stone would be usable. Nicely done.
This is all part of the fun of experimenting, I was not sure but thought it was worth a try. 😀
I love how the brass kind of pops with its thin shine between the differing materials!
Thanks Sven, I would have liked the brass a little thicker but erred on the side of caution. 😀
Beautiful bowl Mike. Love the inlay. I’m amazed at the variance in the chalk. Gorgeous. The brass is a great added accent. Great job.
Thanks Doug, the chalk came out way nicer than I thought, it's hard to see all the colour variation when it is in it''s natural state. 😀
This turned out amazing!! I love how the different shades of soap stone look together. And the brass. Such a good idea!
Thanks! The soapstone came out way better than I could have hoped for. 😃
This is such a different way to inlay it came out beautiful - love it
Thanks Caryl, I'm so glad this one held together 😀
Wow! Beautifully done Mike! I love the soapstone! And WOW! 13000, subscribers!! Fantastic!!
Haha I know, the Grass Tree Root video is 'exploding' it's amazing to see but I'm spending 2hrs a day responding to comments lol, be careful what you wish for as they say 😀
Another great video, just when I think you’ve tried everything you still find new and unusual projects to present to us
Haha thanks 👍 I have lots more ideas 😀
As I am a new subscriber I am going back to older videos this project very nice, great work.
Welcome aboard and thanks David 😀
Congratulations Mike for reaching your goal of 10k subscribers. We all knew you were going to reach that milestone. Your work is amazing to watch. Can’t wait to see what your future projects will look like. 🎉🎉
Thanks so much Scott, you will have to wait and see 😀
Neat bowl! I know of people carving soapstone, but I had not thought of turning it. Once again, great idea!
Awesome gesture by Record Power as well.
Thanks Ted, I wanted to use alabaster but it is a fortune so had to look for an alternative 😀, Record Power are great people 😀
I am glad to have found this channel. I am so gonna binge the rest of your content.
Thanks Andreas, don't go too far back, quality was a bit poor lol 😆
I use to be a fabricator and know how difficult this must have been, absolutely great job. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! Not easy and I think I got lucky lol 😀
I'm not a turner so I would never have thought this combination of materials would work (the addition of the brass was what really threw me)!
It is absolutely fabulous! The light of the soapstone is a brilliant contrast and the brass echoes the chatoyancy in the wood. Congratulations on the 10k subscribers and on a beautiful bowl that didn't fly apart.
I have used brass a few times and in general it turns ok, obviously it is a hard material but what sharp tools you are ok.
The materials you chose for your 10k prize bowl is brilliant.. 😱💕
Thank you! 😊
I just found your channel recently, but it has been a real pleasure to watch and learn from you. Take care
Thanks and welcome Thomas 😀
You certainly had me on the edge of my seat with this turning. And your commentary ramped up the suspense. Congratulations on a superb outcome. Someone is going to be very pleased to win this!!
Thanks so much Nic, glad you enjoyed it 😀
Really beautiful! Love the combination of all the different materials. Sometimes taking a risk is also rewarded!😊
Thanks! I'm really pleased with the soapstone, it came out nice 🙂
Excellent videos. I was stunned to find you hadn't more attention. I suspect that will be changing as the quality of your videos and work are stellar and are absolutely worthy of the growth in your channel. I appreciate the well spoken and thoughtful way you explain and execute your turns. I also greatly appreciate your focus on safety, it speaks to your wisdom and experience to care for and protect yourself, with the same dedication you apply to your creations. Cheers, looking forward to the next stunningly beautiful thing you create.
Thanks so much! I've only been running this channel for 15 months so it's still early days and I still have a lot to learn, all the best Mike 😁
Congratulations. You have earned the success you're seeing. I enjoy the commentary you add to your videos. The salt trick works with wood glue also
Hi Eric, thanks so much, I did see the salt trick on a woodworkers video, just wish I had remembered it at the start lol, all the best, MIke
The yew light. Sorry I know it is a different piece but . Thr idea of the concertina card and resin was clever and mixed with the led bulb unit was well done. And Come out jolly good. Clever idea. JC.
Thanks so much 😊
Fabulous turning Mike congratulations on the 10,000 I started listening , watching , you when you were starting out its been a great ride!
Wow, thank you so much, it's been an amazing ride!
I have been watching you for some time now. I have enjoyed every video you have put out. Your success in gaining subscribers is purely because or you! Beautiful job on this bowl. Your choices on the material could not have been better. Someone is going to LOVE this piece. Here's to the next 10K+ subscribers. You'll be there faster than you think!
Thanks so much William and you certainly have been with me for a very long time, I really appreciate your support, it's been a crazy ride made so much better by having people like you come along with me. All the best, Mike
Wow I've watched a couple of your videos and am amazed at how well much talent you have to get a perfect shape while freehanding your tools on the lathe. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! It's just practice 😀
It looks fantastic. I didn't know such a thing was possible.
That is really lovely. Whomever gets it will I’m sure cherish it for a long time.
I hope so too! All the best, Mike
@@MikeHolton You as well. Being in the states (I’m in New Hampshire), it is Independence Day from you guys. Have a good one 😀
@@turningwiththewoods Have fun 😀
This bowl is absolutely gorgeous. I love the inlay.
Thanks so much, I'm just so happy it worked 😀
I've always said if you want to see a creative approach to wood turning, you won't find it in Eastern Europe. Therefore, I am looking for inspiration in my soul and around the world! Thanks Mike for a great job!😊👌
Thanks so much 😊 all the best, Mike
That wood is amazing.. and as for the soapstone... the mosaic effect of glueing all those pieces was a master stroke.
What I most especially love about this is where you positioned the inlay. It works beautifully with the grain of the wood.
Definitely among the top 2 or 3 I've seen you make.
Oh.. did I say I loved it? 'Cos I really do 😊
Aw thanks Jax, this is just about the hardest piece I've done and I love it too. 😀
Wow! You are halfway through twelve thousand subscribers already! And they are right! You are one brave artisan: Your love for adventure, your ingenuity, your modesty and your care make for top results! As this bowl is demonstrating well^^ I am happy to follow :)
btw. as apprentices we were also shown the trick with the salt :D
Thanks so much my friend, that salt trick is amazing, just a shame I keep forgetting lol😀, all the best, Mike
Good luck dear Mike , that's great like always to see you doing well . This project is successful .Thank you.
Thanks Joe 😀
"Absolutely beautiful". Accurate assessment.
Haha thanks 🙏
I did not think that would stay together. Wow awaking result.
I'm surprised as you are Jason 😀
The bowl looks terrific. Gorgeous wood, nice contrasts with the soapstone and brass. Very well done as usual. Good call to leave the walls thicker. A wonderful gift for someone.
I did not see you roughen up the brass with abrasive to key the surface. I hope this holds up over time. Last year I used epoxy to glue bubinga scales for a knife blank onto the steel. I forgot to abrade the surface, just cleaned with acetone. My nephew took the assembly home and some months later the scales fell off. Zero epoxy left on the steel. Likely differential contraction over a Yorkshire winter. The assembly was in his unheated shed.
At this months local turning club a member brought in a bowl with some bowtie inlay he used to fix some cracks. A very nice effect. This method could also be used to reinforce inlays like in this bowl
Dave.
Thanks Dave, I did rough the surface just hope I did enough lol, I'm going to be doing a knife soon , doubt I'll make a video of it though. All the best, Mike 🙂
Beautiful bowl, I have used soapstone for years and never thought about using it for anything other than marking pipe to cut. Well done and thank you.
Thank you very much! I wanted to use alabaster but it is a fortune so I looked for an alternative 😀
