My 4 year old son and I found this channel about a year ago, when UA-cam "fed" me the lime green Corvette video. We were hooked immediately. We always watch "Vice Gwip Gawage" before bed time. My next video was the Regal Turbo (from northern MI, we're from the Detroit area) with the 3.8 liter V6. When I was younger, my first car was the family 1987 Buick Century Estate Wagon, we had the same engine. The SECOND you turned that engine on, even over UA-cam audio, I was 18 again. I knew that sound without question or fail. Had unreliable cars plenty, but that car sat untouched for a YEAR and fired RIGHT up. Seeing all this makes me want to go find one to buy. I'm not a car guy, but watching you makes me think that between my brother (who IS a car guy) and myself, we could make it work. Thank you for all this, it's wonderful what you do!
The end message to this is perfect. I worked at shops that built high end customs / hot-rods / race cars for a couple decades. 7 figure stuff. Ridler contenders. A couple years ago I was gifted a car from a coworker, as the cost to repair it would exceed the value and he didn't have the skills to do the work himself. His mother had bought it brand new locally , and when it hit 140k miles or so she gave it to her son - who is my coworker. They used the car everyday, it was their only car. He didn't want to scrap it, or donate it, or deal with selling it. He asked if I would take it - and I said "sure, why not." The only reason I did was because the interior was pretty mint on it and the paint would clean up real nice. It didn't have the typical Arizona paint job for a car near 30 years old. So over the years I have put considerable effort into it - and a little money. I did a paint correction, I pulled the entire interior out and thoroughly cleaned it. I have done a ton of maintenance and fixing on all the neglected stuff (rebuilt the cooling system, fuel system, replaced all the leaking seals/gaskets, axles, mounts, suspension, etc.) I didn't buy the high dollar parts, but I didn't buy the super cheapy stuff either. I splurged a little bit and put a really, really nice complete stereo in it (component door speakers, rear speakers, hid a nice headunit in the glove box, and a couple quality subs and amps) to relive my youth a bit. I own some "cool" cars, and had many over the years - but I absolutely love my ................. '97 Camry. It just thrums along effortlessly, rides like a comfy couch, and gets great mileage. I currently have just under 200k miles on it - and you would never believe it due to the condition. In sharp contrast to modern stuff - the cabin feels light and airy due to all the glass and visibility. I honestly look forward to driving it as much as some of my other "cooler" cars. It is easy to get caught up in all the hot-rods / race cars and crazy custom stuff - but the boring old commuter cars are cool too. They were someone's dependable necessity to get to work, the family outing-mobile. My boring old Camry took my coworker's family to weddings, funerals, graduations, church on sunday, first dates, probably some backseat debauchery, high school shenanigans, etc - and that makes it cool. Sure some may disagree, but I don't care cause I am too busy cruising around in my mint Camry that with some work, effort and a little cash is probably one of the nicest ones left. I occasionally get the thumbs up from other late 30s / early 40s people who fondly remember being carted around in one - and every week or so a "you wanna sell it?" Nope, gonna run this car till it returns to the earth. She's a keeper.
World needs more fathers like you us my friend love teaching kids I'll never forget the feeling of watching them load a car on the tow truck by themselves
Your family values and the way you treat your boys and your wife is inspiring .. my dad my brother my fiends and I really enjoy the show and your workmanship is awesomely hilarious and insightful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Btw, you probably know this already but you can use ospho before painting it is a great inhibitor to stopping rust before you lay down some paint
I love it when Derek asks Little Grip to make a tool run. It reminds me of helping my Grandfather. When I was younger than LG, he would send me to get things he didn't need to keep me busy, but it helped me learn what and where all the tools were. My favorite thing was putting everything back in its proper place.
My dad isn’t much for working on cars, but he did manage to impart some wisdom regarding what tool is the right one for the job, and what their proper names are. I assumed every dad did this, until I was looking at a friend’s dad’s ‘67 corvette, and my friend couldn’t hand him the right tool 😳
It’s hard to look at old cars. It brings back a flood of memories of a time when everything seemed simpler, life was happy, America was strong and people were nicer. I actually think that’s why people like old cars.
Derek, I loved the Dwight Yoakum reference at the one hour mark. Also appreciated the time you spend with Bentley, my wife and I love the affection you show the little guy. I’m sure he will speak of you just as fondly as you do of your Dad and Grandpa. ❤️✌️😎

Thank you sir for sharing your adventures and knowledge. And thanks to all who support you with what you do. Thanks to your wife and family for sharing you with us. And all they do

I had an Oldsmobile and the engine had the Grand National 6 with the arrow going through it on it. I guess it was the Grand National logo with the “6 turbo” motif. Weird thing was it was not turbo charged nor was it engine swapped. My parents had bought it new and gave it to me in the early 90’s. Always thought it was a bit weird. The engine was rock solid and pulled good up until the time I sold it with over 200k miles on it. Never did anything to it but change the oil every few thousand miles. Was a solid car for a young guy with little money. But I always thought it was weird that it had the grand national emblem on the motor?!
I'm having some really bad days at the moment. The health is poor and the body is exhausted. Your videos make me better! Thanks for your great videos! Greetings from a big fan from Norway!
Hey man, I don’t really comment on your videos and I honestly don’t watch them as often as I used to, but I remember when you had less subscribers, and your children were little tykes! Its crazy to watch your videos again and see how much they grown! Glad you’re including them in on your work!
These videos of you and your son are amazing Derek. You're creating lifelong memories for him. I remember being his age and my dad found a 70 Super Bee that I remember working on with him in the garage. When we finished the car, he gave it to me. I still own the car today. It's an amazing memory for me and these videos take me back to my own childhood. Keep up the amazing work VGG guys!!
I’ve been a fan since the beginning. It’s been an amazing journey watching your family grow and your audience. Love how it’s down to earth and family oriented and never changes
If a feller is thinking of painting the rest of the car I'd like to leave a suggestion. There was a TV show in the 2000's called "life" only lasted 2 seasons. Main character played by Damien Lewis (Captain Winters in Band of Brothers) had a grand national painted up nice. Black with a white racing stripe and lettering on the hood calling out the 3.8 SFI Turbo. Always thought it would be cool to recreate that car. Thanks for all your content!
It's so great to have a young son so amazingly willing to help you. Cherish it. Most of the time when the teenage years hit that enthusiasm to help diminishes.
I'm normally V8 guy that loved the fox body mustangs, but I do love these cars. I'm old enough to remember seeing them on the road and they just have such a cool look. I think you should even paint this and do a base restoration on it. I had a client who just bought one with 8000 original miles on it earlier this year. I never got to see it bc unfortunately he passed away in July but the excitement and nostalgia he had for it was awesome. RIP Bob.
Hi, just wanted to mirror some of the other comments I see here. Thank you for the wonderful videos, you’ve helped to reignite my passion for my lifelong hobby of playing with cars. I’ve now gone on my own little trips to resurrect old derelict cars and revive them to running and driving vehicles. I appreciate you, thank you and your family! FYI, my 5 year old son loves watching your videos with me and now he’s a subscriber to little grip garage too. Have a great holiday weekend!

That GN isn't real exciting looking, but about the only true muscle car of that era. Know a guy out here in Norcal that has a few. Has a very modified 3.8 drag car that eats V8s all day. Lower to mid 8s in the quarter.
Lost my pops when I was 12 didn't get to spend the time id like to have in the shop with him. But every time I see you and Bentley it brings me back to a much greater time in my life. 22 years later and I miss my dad every single day.
One of my greatest “accomplishments” as a father has been learning along side my stepson under the hood of his mustang, and inviting my own father to hang out with us while we figure things out.
Little fellow got pep in his step to learn his dad's passion for working on cool stuff sure is one outstanding dad for nurturing his child's curiosity and supporting him to make his own mistakes to learn from them and making them right ❤
I have a friend who owns a 1978 Monte with 3 certified miles on it, trucked to his home from dealership. He thought nobody would like the downsized Monte, how wrong was he? His last offer for the car was upwards of 70k.
Derek, you are making memories with your son that he will carry with him forever. My dad was not a car guy, so I had to go to my neighbor who was a car guy. Mr. Jack taught me old school tune ups(60`s cars) and I took it from there. One time my Dad had a business trip and at that time Mom`s car`s brakes were bad right before he left. I was 16, now 66 and Mr. Jack watched me replace her brakes and kept me on the right path, but I really wanted my Dad there in Jack`s place. He came home and Mom told him her brakes were fixed. He got a bit angry at me, but Mom needed her car so I asked Mr. Jack for guidance in the repair. He talked to Jack, and Jack told him he should be proud of the way I handled the repair. Both of these men are gone now, and I miss them both
When my son was about 13 years old (now 40) we would go hunting on the local WMA. Back then I had a beater 86 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 4 speed, 3 and a Granny. As soon as we hit the dirt road we would switch out and he would drive. What a hoot. All low speed driving but an adventure none the less. Yeah, we had a few dings and scrapes with trees and rocks along the way, but nothing a can of flat white didn't clean up.

Derek, your easy going style and can do attitude is really enjoyable. The way you get after it, and get er’ done, while not building a watch so much, is so much fun to witness. Great in-depth videos like this are sorely needed for other makes and models that you haven’t worked in yet, I think some other guys can learn to do a little bit better. All around a good time. As many have already said, love watching the little grip working with his dad, learning the value of a good relationship with pops and the value of work and appreciation, and the closing comments! This video in particular gives me encouragement to blow the dust off my 1972 project El Camino. It has a long interesting story and NEEDS to be back on the road! I've had it for about 30 years, its boxes and parts have been coast to coast ending in my barn! Would like help, but can't find anyone with the interest or passion for cars that I have. I don't have a little grip to assist me or enjoy it with me, but like you said Derek, one part at at time, one dollar at a time, one sprits of the paint at a time, MAYBE, just maybe, it might ride again!
Man, this really makes me miss my G bodies. I remember picking up a 4.3 rust free Monte for $75, digging thru 15-20 of them at the junkyard to find the parts to make mine better, and how easy they were to work on. Woulda, coulda, shoulda
Here's a couple of things Derek: I was touched by the father to child love you showed your two boys in this video. I've felt the same with my three children that are now grown. I hope you're not one of those mean dads. Then again I think the reason why your channel is so popular is because there isn't much negative in any of your videos. Yes, you've shown frustration (Moses' sandals!) and resignation (There, I said it!). Your self-deprecating humor never fails to make me laugh. Yes, those repop fibree glaz bumper panels along with a bunch of other repopped stuff will require "Adapto Games". I'd try clip nuts in certain places. I'm sure you can be discrete and do it better than GM did it originally. It doesn't have to be "factree". Like the paint imperfections, you can't see them from an airplane. Now about that hood....
I'm writing this at 1:05:35 . I have faith in your rattlecan skills. I remember the fairing you painted for your Harley a couple years ago. man that turned out nice. I'm confident this will also. your passion and message is what keeps me ( and hundreds of thousands ) coming back. your channel is truly the best out here. don't change a thing. please.
True Story, I was painting the tailgate on my 61 ford unibody back about 20 years w. I was using a spray can . I ask my wife to shake the paint can for me. After a while she asks how long to shake the can. I tell her in a serious tone. Until it quits rattling hon. About 10 minutes later I couldn’t help myself I burst out laughing and too this day she still calls me a bad word when I bring it up.
I am so jealous of your boys, I only wish my da showed even a 10th of the parenting skills you show. Its heart warming and amazing to watch. Thank you sir.
Around 1990 I had fun racing one of these for top speed on Route 9 South from Cromwell, CT to Middletown with my 87 LX 5.0. We were dead even for miles, side-by-side. The guy was so nice, he gave me a thumbs up when we got to the light in Middletown and we were all smiles. Fun times.
Good job Derek, involving the kids! Watching you and how you patiently guide your boys, I've been inspired to do the same. My son and I are doing an old finback Mercedes. I'm going to be teaching him how to do the engine next. He's 15 and wants to learn, and it's been fun so far. As for what should be next for the Grand National? Headliner followed by paint!
Derek, you feller are awesome and inspiring all generations and making a huge difference in the lives of so many people that you will never know. Keep doing the good work!!!
My Dad helped me do a Craigslist rebuild on 2 cars I drove. The first was a hand me down 1974 Mercury Monterey Sedan. 400 with a C6 trans. We did a shade tree rebuild on the motor and sent the trans out for rebuild. Put it back together and I drove it 3 more years till the doors fell off. Then he helped me do a complete rebuild on my 77 firechicken. Those memories warm my heart. Your boys will tell epic stories to their families one day. Awesome work !

57:54 - LOL, I has these sorts of bumper fillers on my classic 1974 Monte Carlo, luckily mine were in great shape and I never had to futz with the fiberglass replacements I bought - just in case. "You get what you pay for" is a 100% true statement with those bumper inserts! Sometimes it worth a few more coins to NOT kill yourself! Looking good Derek !

2 things that upped my rebuilding-spray game immensely;
1) The snap on handle w/trigger.
2) Sawzall attatchement paint shaker.
Game changers.
World needs more fathers like you us my friend love teaching kids I'll never forget the feeling of watching them load a car on the tow truck by themselves
A guy can't believe how much Bradley has grown up. I still remember watching him help a feller rescue the F150 from a field.
Time flies.
No kidding...thanks, "Bradley "
A little guys name is Bentley.
Brad is getting to be a big fella too.
Yea that was Bentley. He has grown too though! Bradley is one of the twins.
Bently
Every dad and mom should watch this video. There is nothing more rewarding than working on a project with your children. Thank you for sharing this.
Vice grip garage is a parenting course disguised as a car channel ❤
That was the eldest young human that he's responsible, Bradly that helped him..., not Little Grip (Bentley).
@@walter2990 Little Grip was in the video
I loved when DEREK did the tool run for BENTLEY! Such respect, love to see it.
Aside from your vast mechanical expertise, I admire the way you treat your kids and pets. That says a lot about a person.
I so enjoy watching the continued progress of so many of the vehicles that you have saved from the salvage yards.
Hi Derek nice video 📹 and workmanship it really looks nice for your vehicle
Man you have a incredibly busy schedule. Traveling the country rescuing vehicles of all kinds. Projects at home. And managing the property. Doing it all very well. Thank you sir for sharing your adventures and knowledge. And thanks to all who support you with what you do. Thanks to your wife and family for sharing you with us. And all they do
Crack of dawn and VGG comes out! Happiest time of my week. Suspect I am not the only one!
Great video. Derek rules!
Like all the comments Derek we don’t know how you do what you do with only your good self, you are a lovable genius who deserves all the accolades for producing episodes each week or so, bloody great viewing and the family who support you all the way “all for one and one for all” We look forward to each episode to where we are going! Thank you, be safe and God Bless America 🇺🇸
Thanks so much!
@@ViceGripGarage you sooo welcome 🤩
Another father son project perfect. Love the car thanks derek for what you do saving the old rigs from the crusher.
Derek is the Bob Ross of cars...seam sealer happy accident😂
Great to see you and the kiddo working on the ol Buick together...🤠👍
it's so cool watching you teach little grip the ropes the father I wish I had. Great job mom and dad
Thanks so much. He's fun to work with
This is America 🇺🇸 displayed on these great videos. Praying for blessings abound. Everyone needs to vote🇺🇲vote🇺🇲vote🇺🇲
Little Grip is developing legit skills at such a young age… I’m really impressed with his drill speed control! Good Job Big Grip! ❤
Boys are growing up fast. Young men now. You and Jessica have done a good job. Love and light
Id use a respirator for that 2k clear, isocyanates are bad stuff.. But looking good!!
Yes!! Was wondering what I was going to listen to while cleaning carpet. Much appreciate the early release, sir!
You bet!
@@ViceGripGarageAnd just curious if that Kroil was the car that a guy gave you in Iola. Would be pretty neat if it was. Enjoy the weekend!
There should be a machine screw in the back of the bumper shock!
Love watching you growing Lil' Grip. Bentley, you are quite special! Ole' woman granny hugs. Much love to you and yours...
Air conditioning, recliner and VGG to end the week! Thanks for your channels Derek!🍻
Was just watch Finnegan, Tony Angelo and Pete Harrell working to run Blasphemi. Will head back that way once we watch this. Thanks again for making the best Friday entertainment for us car enthusiasts families.
Much appreciated
Derek i absolutely love your show !!! I enjoy all your builds and I really enjoy watching how good you treat your family !!!!
Your kids are living the American Dream working with great parents!
I'm so happy to see you fixing this car up right
Derek…..your patience and how you involve your family is amazing! Good for you guys….and LOVE the channel!
What a huge difference those fillers made! The Bland National is slowly becoming not so bland. And as always love seeing your sons helping out. I like that as much as the car content. Keep it up Derek!
Derek watching you, and little grip working on the Grand National, brought back memories of me, and my son working on my car a long time ago. He's 36 now! Enjoy this time with your kids. Keep up the fantastic work you put out for us out here in the UA-cam world, it's much appreciated. Thanks!
My son just had his 33rd bday. Man it goes SO fast!
Hello Derek. I wanted to say that I enjoy your videos. You are doing a great service in bringing back classic cars. The Grand National looks great. As you would, it's a runner.
Thanks for giving members a first peek! Glad to support your efforts in some small way. Thx!!!!
Much appreciated!
@@ViceGripGarage Wow nice improvement to the bland national!! Would be nice to see an episode on the race car sitting beside it and also a walk around Grandpa's Denali. Thx!!!!
Agree! Thanks Derek and Bentley.
That GN isn't real exciting looking, but about the only true muscle car of that era. Know a guy out here in Norcal that has a few. Has a very modified 3.8 drag car that eats V8s all day. Lower to mid 8s in the quarter.
There isn't much content on here anymore that I can comfortably recommend to anyone but VGG is always good and entertaining every time. Thanks Derek.
100% this
Lost my pops when I was 12 didn't get to spend the time id like to have in the shop with him. But every time I see you and Bentley it brings me back to a much greater time in my life. 22 years later and I miss my dad every single day.
You know it’s about to get serious when a fella brings in the big guns for help! I need a Bentley in my shop!
Everybody needs a shop Bently and a Little Grip to help get the harder...ish stuff done!
My dad made use of me when I was smaller, I could get into places that he couldn’t. I miss that guy!
One of my greatest “accomplishments” as a father has been learning along side my stepson under the hood of his mustang, and inviting my own father to hang out with us while we figure things out.
Little fellow got pep in his step to learn his dad's passion for working on cool stuff sure is one outstanding dad for nurturing his child's curiosity and supporting him to make his own mistakes to learn from them and making them right ❤
Man o man! Derek watchin you and Bentley workin together on this car is way cool. You are a great dad, and teacher. Keep it up brother.
I was crazy about the '85 to '89 regal, cutlass, monte carlo body style growing up. My favorite body of the era.
Both of these men are gone now, and I miss them both
New headliner, front fenders/roof/hood repainted. Looking better every week! Thanks for great entertainment!
It wouldn't be a GM car of the era without shims everywhere. Such wonderful quality!
Yeah, we had a few dings and scrapes with trees and rocks along the way, but nothing a can of flat white didn't clean up.
new paint job with black and put on some fire designs on the front wheel back .1960,here you come. love your videos and tell little vice he is just like his dad just a little more limber.
One of my favorite things about your channel is the family side of it.The way lil grip gets into working with you shows promise for the next generation. Just a idea maybe you should consider letting lil grip do a show as well he's a natural
As a kid who joined the military in 1985, and had a kid by 1987, ENLISTED, I could only DREAM of the car.... Now 'm 57, disabled from my service, and living on disability... But this car was THE muscle car of the 80's... it is my favorite car of all TIME
god bless you, man. send you some good energy.
Thank you for your service
Derek, your easy going style and can do attitude is really enjoyable. The way you get after it, and get er’ done, while not building a watch so much, is so much fun to witness. Great in-depth videos like this are sorely needed for other makes and models that you haven’t worked in yet, I think some other guys can learn to do a little bit better. All around a good time. Thanks.
The Lazee-Boy and wobble pop holder in the shop watching the Junior Vice Grip do the job is getting near Derek :))
Cant stop thinking your one of the greatest father.love you derek.you re an exemaple for every father.
Derek i just wanted to say thank you for the quality of all you're stuff...i have been struggling with chronic depression and it might not seem like much but these videos have helped me keep my head above water keeping my mind on constructive content ...i will put your videos on playlist and i can relax and take the edge off...so thank you my friend ..PS the buick GN is one of my all time favorite cars and this one is sexy
Man, he gots a slushie machine in the shop?! That's when you know he's made it.
Great idea! I want
16:05 "bracketthingamadooodabs" 😄 yep that''s the correct technical term 🤣
Working on a “Little Gripisms” and I will buy that shirt too Bentley
90% of the time I’m on UA-cam I’m watching vice grip garage. Literally the best UA-cam channel in the history of UA-cam. And because a guy is made for this. Hell of a job.💪💪💪💪
Thanks so much!
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY has a better fan base than Vice Grip Garage.
A fella can't just have a GN without it looking like a nice going to town rig.
THAT car should be 100% restored, big investment, worth the time n effort
I'm writing this at 1:05:35 . I have faith in your rattlecan skills. I remember the fairing you painted for your Harley a couple years ago. man that turned out nice. I'm confident this will also.
your passion and message is what keeps me ( and hundreds of thousands ) coming back. your channel is truly the best out here. don't change a thing. please.
The backwards face shield...pretty sure I woke up the wife laughing from the living room 🤣
😂 Now that’s funny. And she still stuck around. Must be quite a lady.
Fun times.
Thank you for taking us along the journey of the Grand Blanational! Love this car.
Bentley’s becoming an awesome shop helper so glad to see you teaching him, little fellers gonna be a great mechanic pretty darn soon!
Derek that Buick is looking better and better , We love you sir and your family please take heed to the safety suggestions , they will save your life. I also love Buicks I have an 83 , 85 Buick Rivera one has a moon roof.
57:54 - LOL, I has these sorts of bumper fillers on my classic 1974 Monte Carlo, luckily mine
were in great shape and I never had to futz with the fiberglass replacements I
bought - just in case. "You get what you pay for" is a 100% true statement with those bumper inserts! Sometimes it worth a few more coins to NOT kill yourself! Looking good Derek !
Been watching vgg a long time. And I just completed a cross country drive with a truck that has been sitting 20yr. With only 1 day of prep I drove 3600km armed with only a flat head screw driver. After watching your videos over and over I had a lot of faith that the old 86 would make it. And sure enough just be patient and it'll get you home.
