This game is brutally hard, I have never beaten it, but I still like it, because it's the only game that is set in a SatAM/Archie-esque universe where the Freedom Fighters exist. I love the darker, grittier aesthetics and music, reminds me of the cartoon.

It’s hard as hell. Have you ever played it on genesis? I’ve never gotten anywhere near the boss of Lava Powerhouse because it’s so brutally unforgiving to the player. If you don’t take time to farm points for lives, you can kiss your sanity and pride as a gamer goodbye.
I think it’s awesome and a fun genre bender. Despite my love for it, STILL can’t beat it without save states and I’m a 90s kid, so that speaks to its challenge.
This game what is the definition of the uncanny valley and it was so unsettling to me as a child. The sound design was especially effective at conveying dread. The boss music was unsettling, the loud mechanical screaming of Robotnik anytime he takes damage was disturbing. His forms were all unsettling as well. Stage two Wass with all of those Robotnik shaped floating heads looked so strange. I think this was the closest sonic has ever been to horror.
Sonic CD? Sonic SatAM? Trust me. Sonic is basically if Mario went full dark not giving a fuck. But now thanks to brats and Nintendo, we got that dipshit show Sonic Boom & Dr Eggface.
This and Lava Powerhouse were my favorite themes in this game. They're so dark, edgy and hardcore and totally unlike anything else in any other Sonic game. The only games that come close to matching the tone of these themes (apart from Sonic Spinball) would be Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic Unleashed.
Edgy is the wrong word. Edgy implies something trying to be serious or heavy, without having the situational context to justify such an attitude This is literally an acid spewing, degenerate sewer robot in the middle of a Cave filled with toxins. That’s just straight up dark. The game’s difficulty even sells you on that
The sheer difficulty of the game itself, as well as the menacing ambiance of this theme are the 2 reasons why Sonic Spinball used to scare me as a little kid, and thus I could never get into it
Excellent tune. Quite menacing, with plenty of neat variations + dem awesome, super sharp lead notes! 100% fitting for the weird boss fights in this game :D
This game has so unique style on it's music amongst all of the sonic mega drive games. And yes some songs sound just horrible (stares at the options screen in horror) Most of the stage music and especially boss music is rather great. Yes it has that "Genesis twang" knob turned all the way to 11, but somehow they pull it off and it kinda suits the rest of the game.
This game is so monstrously difficult it isn’t even funny. The games soundtrack already makes it up for you. You are in Robotniks lair, created by him. He is about to achieve world domination and you’re the only one capable of stopping him. All breaks and stops are pulled, because HOLY SHIT this game doesn’t pull punches.
I literally could not play up to the first boss as a kid because I was terrified of it. I didn't get to actually play through until I emulated it years later.
This must have been the most ridiculous Sonic Game I've ever played. It was long, annoying and extremely difficult at start. When you finally realised that you can actually control Sonic-ball midair reduced the number of deaths radically, but when you went against Robotnik with Fast ball settings and 99% of your hits went over him and he kept throwing you out of the ship over again made me really frustrated. Yet I still eventually beat him. I've beaten this game and I won't be doing it again.
1:05 can someone please help me find out what this sound is that sound like an old man shouting "Yo-Yo" over and over again. I would be extremely grateful.
Casually playing the game to beat it is fun. Trying to get all the rings as well as the emeralds? Suddenly its one of the most frustrsting wnd tedious games of all time.
It's refreshing to get to listen to this without that Robotnik spider/scorpion/crab going "EEEEEEEEENNNNH" the entire time

That fucking second boss...
Not that it was the hardest thing ever, but it was kinda terrifying.
I always found the scorpion kinda funny looking. Something about a robotnik face on a giant bug.
The Scorpion boss is Scorpius and it was actually quite easy.
Fuck the Lava boss, I couldnt unsee that fuckin face as a kid
That boss was super trippy.
Lets boogie.
Shout out to this song for being my headphone test for years
I want to hear a metal cover of this...
Jonny Atma just did a cover of Toxic Caves on his Sonic Fan Medley 2. I recommend giving it a listen.
What if I told you you already are?
It already sounds like a Heavy metal song.

I know. This is and was the coolest best boss battle theme I’ve ever heard!
What about Infinite's theme from Sonic Forces :P (Not any of the battle themes, his "song")
Biometrix It sounds more like Fallen Hero type music than edgy.
Edgy is the wrong word. Edgy implies something trying to be serious or heavy, without having the situational context to justify such an attitude

just this first boss fight scared me - I got so good at getting to him tho
Its very dark for a Sonic game
I loved this theme as a kid. I always loved jamming to it whenever I got to a boss.
This was too good for a spin off game.
well, its really good for a game that was developed in only 2 months. the physics aren't great but they are indeed functional.
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE, SPIN

Unleashed for the Genesis Confirmed.
I thought it was just the one side, but both have it, sort of an incongruence that was so 90s (and SEGA in particular, just look at Nomad's screen).
