Thank you so much!! And, you're welcome! I love the whole Sketch Support process from making the sketch to creating the layout to making the video so comments like this really make my day!
As a fellow mom of boys, I was curious what are your favorite collections and your suggestions for purchasing supplies. I find we are bombarded with florals and girlie-inspired prints like rainbows and unicorns. My recent purchases include a lot of these beautiful designs inspired by the gorgeous layouts I see on UA-cam but I quickly noticed when I sit down to scrapbook these new purchases are not practical for my style of scrapbooking my teenage boys.
I feel your pain! It definitely seems that the more feminine collections dominate the scrapbooking world. My favorite companies that make boy themed collections are Simple Stories and Echo Park. They have both created some of my all-time favorite boy collections. Photo Play, Carta Bella, Fancy Pants, My Mind's Eye, and Bella Blvd. have also created some great boy collections. My favorite boy collection from Simple Stories right now is Bro & Co. And, another thing I love about Simple Stories is that a lot of their papers, even if they aren't in specifically boy themed collections, work really well for boy layouts. Even some of their more girly collections will have papers that are perfect for boy layouts. My favorite boy collections from Echo Park are Teen Spirit Boy and Imagine That. Used to a lot of companies made really cute boy collections, but it seems that they make less and less these days. When I am shopping for supplies, I keep my eyes peeled for papers, even in girly collections to see if there is a paper or two that I could use on boy layouts. It often means that I'm not using just one collection on a layout, but instead mixing and matching papers to go with my photos instead. I know that with my boys they wear colors like black, red, blue, yellow, and green so I might look for papers that have those colors. And, when someone does come out with a boy collection, I typically will purchase more than I usually would because I know that these collections don't come out as often as girly ones. With Bro & Co, I ended up buying 3-4 sheets of each paper and double the embellishments. I'm glad I did too because I have used it several times! I hope that helps some!!
All fabulous. I was wondering if you would show us in a upcoming video how you do the slight texture on your shapes. In this video your hearts were. The edges were slightly raise and slightly distressed. I like the added texture.
Thank you!! I'll put that on my list of future videos. I do it so much, I'll try to remember to include it in the next Sketch Support video. Basically all I do is run my fingernail along the edge and it raises it. You can also use a craft knife or Tim Holtz has an edge distress tool that works great.
Thank you, Jana!! I'll put that one on my list for future videos. I should have done it in this one, but didn't even think about it until I saw your comment!
Wow! Each layout is so different and uses a unique and interesting focal point. I can't wait to make some layouts with this sketch. Thanks for the inspiration!
Wonderful layouts!!! What did you use for your blue water coloring on the pool page? Spritzs, Gelatos, or pencils and did you apply gesso first to the paper? Also where can we find the the little water color jewels you mentioned?
Thank you, Jennifer! I used liquid concentrated watercolor from Pink Fresh Studio, but really any watercolor would work. I didn't apply gesso to the paper. I probably should have but I didn't plan on using a lot of watercolor so I didn't think the paper would warp to badly. It did a little though. You can find the Nuvo Jewel Drops here: scrapbookgeneration.com/search.php?search_query=Nuvo+Jewel+drops I used the color Sea Breeze for my layout. It's my favorite of all the colors!
Allison, I watched a lot of your tutorials on how to use and adapt scrapbook sketches, most of the ones I have seen are all 12x12, is there any examples of a sketch done in 12x12 then 10x10 and 8x8 or 6x6? I am great at expanding the layout, I'm horrible at trying to "shrink" the sketch to fit my book or page I am currently working on.
I only scrapbook 12 x 12" so I don't have any showing smaller sizes. With adapting sketches to smaller sized layouts I think there are a few ways you can approach it. You can shrink the sketch details, but you might also have to remove elements so that it fits a little better. If the sketch is covered in 1" strips you might not need to shrink them, because 1" is already on the smaller size, but you would use less than what you see on the sketch since it's a smaller size.
I used six strand embroidery floss, most of the time DMC brand. I only use three strands of the floss when I stitch. It pulls through the paper so much easier than the full six and you really don't see that big of a different between using the full six stands versus three strands.
This series of videos makes me very happy!

I just found your channel and this series has been so helpful! Thank you for sharing your creativity. How do you resize your photos?
Thank you! I’m so glad you find it helpful! I use Photoshop to crop them and then have the arranged and printed on 4x6 prints. 😊

@@allisondavis4sg944 Thank you, I will try this!
When you stitch is there a particular thread type that you use??
