Thailand, it's pretty impossible not to love this amazing country. Still, I see some people getting annoyed over here (especially at immigration 😅) What do you get annoyed by or are you just riding the wave of smiles and never worry once you’re here? Please check out my new mate Paddy from @@ThaiTalkwithPaddy
id say the thai's, great country just the culture, the voises, the noise, the motorbykes, the jerk off kids racing on them everywhere, the hookers, , thailand was awesome 20 plus years ago, today you'd pay me to visit or id stay home.
It was great to have you on the show, you living legend 😉 Thanks for sharing your experiences. Good luck with your channel and hopefully we'll meet again!
1:50 "people are hooked on their phones". So true! Go on any BTS in BKK and over 90% of the passengers are glued to their phones. I'm more interested at looking out the windows to the view outside and that's after 32 years living here in BKK! Another downside of passengers glued to their phone is that they don't notice the pregnant woman, elderly person, disabled or monk getting on the train that need a priority seat that is designated on every BTS carriage for them to use.
32 years and still loving it 😍 I see the world is changing and phones are just part of that change, but hopefully it doesn’t distract anyone so much they ignore their surroundings 😅 Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@Chai_Travel I wouldn't say "loving it" just a better place than where I came from. Living here in "central" BKK before the BTS, MRT, ARL started I have noticed the MRT and BTS metro lines get more and more crowded as these metro lines have been extended into the outer suburbs. The crowds on the trains plus modern living where "time is money" have altered people's behavior to become more selfish which is typically a phenomenon that can occur in any large city. Of interest is that I can spot a Mainland Chinese tourist out from an Asian crowd, not from when they speak, but from their behavior. Typically it is an older Thai that will offer their seat on a train to those in more need before anyone else. I put this down to them retaining some behavior from a bygone age
Awesome video champ. I wonder if Aussie Paddy has ever met English Paddy. Both reside Chiang Mai Northern Thailand, both had/have a job teaching the locals English, have UA-cam channels, the same characteristics. Both also likeable characters. Nice find Chai. Very interesting! 🍻🤩
One thing I will correct is that Paddy said Thai people are not judgemental. We are actually super judgemental but are just nice or chill about many issues. We are very judgemental and that is why we have so many words, actions, and behaviors that are used to save face or protect reputation.
Haha thats my impression as well. But still my favorite country and people in the world. Judgemental, sure. But love the polite and chill attitude. Not very efficient, but as retired the slow pace suits me perfectly. Even the slow cashiers don’t bother me. Better than western stress
Bro, was this just a fluke catch-up with our Aussie Paddy, or prearranged? It's interesting that both Paddy's were teaching in Chiangmai. Both have similar personalities, articulate in every way, and are very successful youtubers. Really enjoyed this humble discussion, Chai 🎉
Thanks mate! I agree😃🏆 yes, I’ve reached out to him, had dinner and found out he’s actually a very nice guy in real life too 🥰 thanks for watching again

About sarcasm: thais like to be sarcastic but its almost always with goodwill or in a humereous way, unlike in our culture, where we like to use sarcasm to complain about something IMO!
Not sure if you meant sarcasm in English if so I think it’s more due to language. It might be harder for people who’s not fluent in English, to detect or understand sarcasm. But in our native Thai language we do have sarcasm in both a funny way and in a negative way.
I live in Thailand. I am not a tourist. My wife's family is big and take great care of me. I love it here and hope to never have to leave. But: 1- Red Tape. Constant changing of the rules for visa, residence and excess paperwork. 2- Noise even in the country side there are big speakers playing music and making announcements at 6am. Dogs barking, people blasting their party music 12 hrs a day during fest time, Karoke you can hear a mile away. 3- Burning everything from brush to garbage. Fires every day, even in residential neighborhoods. They need some other way to dispose of it. This greatly increases the already big air quality problems. 4- Free roaming dogs that breed indiscriminately. They just let them roam around making more puppies. I had to start to carry a big stick to fight them off when walking my pup on a leash. I started with a shillelagh or cane, walking stick but after being threatened 50 times and actually 2 dog fights between my pup and I and a mean dog I got a shillelaghs that is 4 times more heavy. I have been in the middle saving my dog from one that is 3 times more heavy than my dog. A local town official suggested that I get a muzzle for my dog which is ridiculous since he is smaller and on a leash against free roaming dogs without even a collar. He needs to be able to help me fight off the monsters. We have had 4 dogs at once threaten us many times. They finally got control of them because luckily for me, they were also chicken killers which the locals did not go for. They don't mind the dogs assaulting pedestrians but don't allow them to kill the chickens. They killed one beautiful dog who never bothered us for this reason. So sad.
I remember I was chatting to Thai she said she doesn't like foreign tourist. Though it can help the economy, she said sometimes they become annoying and entitled as if they owned Thailand. Mostly westerners benefit the paradise and few Thais. She forgot that I'm foreigner too 😆 and said I'm exemption because we're both Southeast Asian and our country are like the same. I can't argue with that. So true here too.
Good to see two kind and humble human beings together in this small chit chat 💬video chai ❤ , Im a subscriber of paddy too, his content is extra ordinary because of his masters in local thai 🇹🇭language, cheers 🍻 to both of you❤ Stay Champ ❤
After visiting Japan for the first time and then coming back to Thailand, the amount of trash thrown on the ground and the lack of upkeep people do in the front of their homes can be disappointing. Second, immigration paperwork with double copies of everything is just ridiculous .No one has a scanner and the process is behind the times. Lastly, the fine art of customer service is not something that is taught in Thai companies from what I have seen. So as long as you learn to be let down most of the time, all will be good.
Aw thanks for sharing you experience and thoughts 🙏 immigration must be the most annoying thing for most people as I see always so many grumpy people when I’m there 😅 thanks for watching again!
a government that continuously fails its people and doesn't represent the majority, gun violence (yes, there is gun violence here of a magnitude far higher than most of our home countries), lack of freedom to speak your mind about said government...It could go on and on, but that being said, its a great place.
Such a honest opinions for Paddy :) Yes, I agree that Thai ppl addict the social media, but this bring a lot creativty and make Thailand a high quality for contents, advertising ,KOLs management and including online marketing. I see many Thai students would like to study in other countries(especailly in western) for online marketing but I think they should reconsider that studying in Thailand is a leading country for online marketing, highly compettitive and has solid expertise in this field.
I found the same thing in Thailand, would go out with my friends and they would order cake and coffee, then take 100 pictures of it and posing... drove me nuts.
CONS: My wife stares at her phone ALL DAY! Heat/PM 2.5/Pollution from cars Driving/Riding here his EXTREMELY dangerous! Paper work sucks! Food is overrated Customer service isn't that great (some place are great) PROS: FREEDOM!!!!!!
when you say "freedom" what exactly do you mean? I am genuinely curious...Maybe with things like taxes and red tape when building or opening a business, maybe in that regard. But freedom to say what you want? Freedom of the press? Freedom to elect a government of your choosing? I don't think Thailand has all that much freedom in that regard. Sure, you are free to drink 15 beers and get behind the wheel and kill someone, but is that the freedom we really want? Don't get me wrong, I love Thailand, but I think that our home western countries, have a lot more freedom than Thailand in many respects....
Yes. I just went to the driving range. Rented clubs and 100 balls for $10. Had a beer or 2. Drove around the city without fear of being pulled over and having my life destroyed. I'm currently sitting in a dive restaurant eating 50 baht noodles. Not a care in the world. 90 degrees. Happy. Of course, they are freedoms in America and Western countries...I'll get back to you later...need to finish my noodles 😊
@@jimsinthailand we aren't talking about someone going out for a beer with lunch and getting behind the wheel, you know that's not what this is about. I don't like the whole 0.08% and you are busted in the US rule, but the truth of the matter is, people get behind the wheel absolutely smashed in Thailand because they know there are no enforceable consequences. No issue with someone having a Leo or two at lunch then going to drive.

Lol 5:40 Chai, Thai people don't have a translation for sarcasm. From what I have learned last almost 1,5 years staying here is that sarcasm is not a thing here and they completely misunderstand you when you use it. I tried to translate it one day and it did not have a world for it in Thai.
Thai people have a translation for sarcasm which is ประชด (pra-chod), why did you talk like Thai people are some weird alien from Mars😂 I think all people in any country can have sarcasm. Some people may don’t get your sarcasm but that can happen even with people from your own country. Btw if you make sarcasm for making joke, then that’s another story, because the joke that you think it’s funny in the west, maybe it’s not funny for Thai people, and vice versa.
@@vassanab4243 Indeed, that's exactly why you don't understand sarcasm because that is the whole point of sarcasm. We in the west make harsh sarcasm jokes and it's not funny here if it doesn't arrive as the way it does in our western cultures. I have had long conversations with my girlfriend about this and I think the definition of sarcasm in Thai language differs from how we use it.
