Hi, first of all I have to say that I love your videos and very inspirational. This B1005 is a killer bass and it looks like you took extra care for yours so it probably sounds amazing. I have two questions please if you have the time. First and foremost, did you work with any plans, and is where can I get those?

Thank you for your nice comment! I made my own plans, but since it's a copy of an existing model I don't think I can legally share plans. I really just copied, traced and printed the general shapes from images online. You can get the image scaled correctly by measuring the scale length. From bridge to nut, if that length is good, the rest is to size as well. The pickups are Fishman Fluence 5 string bass pickups. They're basically plug and play and you can really customise the sound.

Thank you for you reaction! This particular bass would cost you about 1400 euros. The electronics are high end (expensive), the woods are expensive and exotic. There are also many hours of labour. With an easier build, different electronics or cheaper wood choice the price could drop a little.
@@PforProject oh wow that's actually an amazing price for such quality work. I've always wanted a bass featuring purple heart, and neck thru is my favourite construction technique as it has such great sustain. I play a Yamaha TRB ii so I like my basses high quality and don't mind a higher price tag.
Great job dude, the wood choice on this one is excellent. How did you meassure out the string spacings, fret messurements etc? Couldn't really see how you figured that out in the video
Thanks for your comment! The fret spacing was calculated in a cad program so that all the middle strings would fall in line. I basically calculated the string spacings for the longer B, and shorter G strings the traditional way. I then picked the 12th fret as a neutral (the fret is perpendicular to the strings.) From this, a compound radius emerged. The longest string is 36.5" and the shortest is 34".
I see so many 5 string demos where people don't even play a single note on the B string :D How come?

Did you have a specific idea of tone when you selected the wood and electronics you used in the build? Great looking bass! Well built instruments are a dream to play. How much would something like this cost?

Are you doing any orders on guitar builds at the moment? If so how much would it cost to do a multiscale bass guitar?
A multiscale bass like this may go for about 1400 euro's. If you would like to purchase this one thats the price. With cheaper woods and an easier finish etc, this price can drop to about 1000 euros.

love the bass!! just wanted to say be careful wearing gloves when using a tablesaw or any machinery, the fabric could get caught and cause really bad damage.
Im sure you know this already but it made me panic seeing your hands so close to the saw lol
Thanks for watching! And yes, fully aware. These are special, tight fitting gloves that help with grip. Cold hands (it was snowing outside, where I was working) on smooth wood is pretty risky, as it could make me lose grip. This was, in my opinion, more risky as I could slip into the sawblade.
That being said, I appreciate the concern and I'm fully on board with your comment. My hands definitely got too close to the sawblade on occasion, and I will be using more guides/push-sticks in the future.

hey man! Arnhem fijnhout is a long drive from my home but it's worth it for the ability to surround yourself with a large variety of pieces of really nice exotic woods. For this bass, only the swamp ash was imported from a luthiery supplier in spain. The other pieces of wood are from Arnhem Fijnhout. Goodluck!!

Man, your hands are getting extremely close to that table saw. Please use adequate protection when publishing material for millions of ppl to see. I would honestly also try to work on the accuracy of the manufacturing (fret positioning, neck transitions...). On a positive note, as long as you enjoy playing it, good job!
What paint do you use for birch veneer?
I just used a black stain/dye. I believe you could also make your own with steel wool and vinegar, you could look into it on youtube. I just bought a black wood stain.

Ofcourse! And depending on your wishes and preferences probably somewhere up from 1500 euros.
@@PforProject just the neck as the same type like in your video...I'd try it by myself or ask my uncle who's a trained carpenter but I guess you're more experienced in it 😁

I do see it looks like it's cold. You use adhesive toe warmers on the back of your hands
That sure is a strange looking harmonica. The greater the depth the better for me. I am just beginning on the Luthier paths.
