Great early extended performance. Starring The Kid (August Darnell). Also starring Trombonist (Lee Robertson). Coati Mundi (Andy Hernandez). Special Guests 'The Gold Dust Twins'
Anyone that disputes the fact that this is one of the best performing acts of all time then they must go check their ears :D epic performance all round with Lee Robertson out of this world .
Great entrance bopping out during that great trombone solo, I was fortunate enough to see them a few times opening for Fishbone, English Beat and the Toasters.
I had forgotten how cool Kid Creole is. This video reminded me in no uncertain terms. I am having a UA-cam Kid Creole binge. It's truly brilliant, best 'tube time ever!!!!
What a show. The days when music was real and live. Amazing mix of James Brown and Sphongle, with colorful jazz & rhythm. Wish I had seen it in those days, but had other musical tastes back then. Great to see it on youtube now. Thanks!
flipping brilliant- early 80's (and 70's) was in a REALLY abusive relationship-the coconuts were so free and gorgeous- made me question my life- saw this on tele- this is my funeral song- aint nothin but a party time xx
saw this tour live in malmö/sweden back in 1985 (or 1986?) as a 'little boy'. it blew me away, as you all can imagine. i'm very thankful for the vhs vid of the london show i got later for christmas. i remember buying my first kid creole vinyl in late 1986 and how disappointing it was to realize how short this track is as the album version.
growing up in Argentina my dad had this on vinyl and that latin-injected roots reggae beat captivated us...i'd dance all over the living room. oh childhood memories! ^^;
Blessed be DBOSB and all incarnations hereafter. Love foreverer., Sonny Browder, August Darnell (Kid Creole) Coati Mundi (Andy Hernandez), Tommy Sevilla, and, of course, diva songstrees, Cory Daye My love for you overflows ...eternally.
Fiestaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
Goes out immaculately and completely attired in black, comes back on immaculately and completely attired in white! Superb showmanship and an excellent band. I miss that approach.
I will tell you what makes the so wonderful. Aside from the awesome performance, The director did not cut away every millisecond so you really get the true sense of the performance. Tom M.
Kid is fantastic, to be sure, but let me say to the folks who are commenting that they've never seen such superb stagecraft and production, that actually, years ago, such a grand approach was more common: setting a spell with a long deadly groove, really getting down with it, and building on it until it's just too much, then doing it to you all the more. To do with in such style like Kid Creole does takes a lot of care in planning and staging, and as touring got rockier and rockier financially, more and more got cut from the bands that had a similar approach -- horn sections went, percussion sections went, staging, back-up singers, and so on all got cut,. but back when band leaders could play out big ideas and had good ideas worth playing out, it was a more common approach. If you want to go 'WAY back, you can see the venerable Cab Calloway, who Kid probably considered a god (just a guess on my part, but it's a guess I'd bet on), show a little bit about how 'grand' was done with the Nicholas Bros back in the days when grand was the calling card to have, buckle in and check out ua-cam.com/video/_8yGGtVKrD8/v-deo.html . And check out the live peformance of Kid singing Stool Pigeons -- the lovely Coconuts are in it. I don't know why they're not in this song.
Ray! Your one lucky dude! I can remember listening to Stool Pidgeon on Radio 1 in Summer of 82 and then a mate bought Tropical Gangsters and I was sold! Given anything to seen this show!
Ive always admired august darnell (kid creole). He's an excellent entertainer and he was never a sell-out. Love his blend of music as did Prince. You get funk, caribbean, big band, swing - very impressive arrangements.
Saw this live when it was being broadcasted...was just a toddler back then.... can't get over how awesome this was and will continue to be. Kid and his gang! Wooooh! Outstanding music, outstanding performance. Viva the 80s!
I saw his 1982 Tour at Portsmouth Guildhall, UK . It was only the 2nd live gig I’d ever seen. Stool Pidgeon was in the charts at the time. blew my 15 year old mind in terms of the theatricality of the performance. and so many people on stage! Quite exotic in the days of four hairy blokes with guitars! Or four equally hairy blokes but with awful makeup and a synthesizer!
See, I kept singing this song to my friends and I got the same answer from all of them during different occasions. They asked me what island I was from. Guess they just didn't believe that this song actually existed.
the trombonist is superlative
When I'm depressed I turn to Kid Creole. I love this.
This should be mandatory viewing for all music fans. One of the greatest live performances ever right here.
yes yes indeed
Kid Creole....incredible band leader, arranger, composer......musicianship, showmanship.....DAMN!!!!!
This hypnotising rhythm, trombone solos, epic stage moves of Kid and Mundi are making me watch this video every day. True show, wish I was there.
The trombone player is amazing as is this whole performance!
That trombone was fire
Anyone that disputes the fact that this is one of the best performing acts of all time then they must go check their ears :D epic performance all round with Lee Robertson out of this world .
Yacine Zaier do you know the date/location of this performance?
He says something about thank you London a little after four minutes

i say to my self : lets listen just 1 minute to remember the nice beat. but i end allways watching and enjoying every single second of it!

This is getting me through 2020. I watch it every day.
Augst Darnell...the man...the band, they were ahead of their time. So Friggin' Cool.
The bass player is so cool and the trombonist is so hot. Kid Creole does not hog the stage and that's why he is so great.

Kid Creole was ahead of his time. As a matter of fact the rest of us still haven't caught up.
Depends on ..............
Now that's how you do a performance. Live and in your face. Do it BIG . He reminds me of Cab Calloway
growing up in Argentina my dad had this on vinyl and that latin-injected roots reggae beat captivated us...i'd dance all over the living room. oh childhood memories! ^^;
That trombone player HOLY SHIT. THIS WHOLE THING, HOLY SHIT!
He's the star of the tune!
Yea I know it is innit
Started in 1980, and is still performing. Impressiv is a mild word for it.
I saw them several times live. Great band.
I have really enjoyed this !
Fiestaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
Excellent clip. The Kid was so cool and it still shows here.
Goes out immaculately and completely attired in black, comes back on immaculately and completely attired in white!
Superb showmanship and an excellent band.

What a performance! Lee Robertson absolutely nailed it. Love the Kid and the show he puts on
