I love new cars and rv’s! Luckily I live a debt free life and recently paid cash for a $55,000 car. But I constantly like change when it comes to vehicles. My wife is helping me understand we should already be grateful for what we have when it comes to vehicles.

Overcoming the mindset that money is bad/evil.
I strongly associate money with exploitation and capitalism, but it's a tool of value exchange. I need to learn to be comfortable giving and recieving money in life.

I’ve modified a few of my money behaviors- 1) what I spend on boating and getting out on the water (my little Whaler runabout, my boatlift, paddleboards, fishing, Adirondack guideboat, etc); and 2) food when dining out- I mentioned that to my daughter-in-law but she cautioned me that my 9-yr-old grandson needs limits- he can’t order the lobster, the prime rib, the tuna appetizer because he’s already too privileged, etc. I get that. But she needed to tell me!

I have a group of friends I do things with, letters A - F. I'm A and I live off a small pension and some savings. Letters D, E, and F are all millionaires. E and F don't flaunt it; however, letter D has no problem showing off and bragging. Interestingly, letter D seems to be the least happy of our group even though they have their house in Tucson and a summer place in the White Mountains, along with an RV, flying first class, taking cruises, etc. While I'm the poorest financially, since I took up minimalism I'm the happiest because I don't have all the material possessions everyone else is tied down to. Letter D claims not to be materialistic but in my opinion, they continue to buy more stuff that clutters up their house. I'm content with the contents of my life.

Learning to live today. Be present and be mindful in life. Mindful financially. For me my childhood trauma has held me back from doing what I wanted. I lived for everyone else but myself. Reparenting and changing my beliefs is key. It takes time and I know I need help. I have a therapist and other people working on my recovery. I am not alone.

Regarding “what am I saving for?” I save for three things (1) common worst case scenarios in an emergency fund, (2) aging/retirement, (3) Vacation. The emergency fund is prepped for 6 months of bare min expenses, and can be used for car repairs, house repairs, law bills, doctor’s bills, being unemployed or sick, etc - the bigger, more expensive things that can go wrong in life. Then I stop and use the money. Same will go for retirement - once I get too old to work I can stop and use the money. I have a separate fund I just started I call the “stay at home with my kids” fund, where o can extend maternity leave for a year to be with kids.
Honestly these are all things other countries get included in being a citizen but in the US you gotta figure it out on your own so here I am lol

Home ownership is not always cheaper than renting. You'll still have to pay the mortgage, property tax, insurance, repairs. Of course it allows you more freedom over what you do with the house but it won't always save you money

Being financially is great in a lot of ways, but don’t let it consume you. Now that I have money, I can let go of dumb purchases. Just recently I bought ticket for a flight and hotel and it’s not refundable. The past me would have been kicking and screaming. Now I’m just like “oh well”. It’s a great feeling

Does it never occur to anyone who has more than they will ever need, to make more to have more to GIVE AWAY? If you have more than you will ever need, your JOB here is spread that Univeral Abundance. After all- it's NOT really Your money- it has come from, and should be recirculated to, the Universe. So enjoy your abundance, and lovingly give away the rest.

Personally I'm saving a 2 years emergency fund because I have been out of work from my professional field during the 2008 recession for exactly 2 years with on off work in jobs not in my field. Very recently my brother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and has been through treatments and stem cell transplants with his own stem cells and then the selfless donor who donated their stem cells. With that he hasn't been able to work due to having a low immune system and building it back up. I know its morbid thinking we might face emergencies in our future lives but it's better to be safe than sorry and have money in place so you have one less stress as you go into an emergency situation.
