BMW GS1200 Rider Selling XPulse For Himalayan: Why That Makes Sense

  • My friend Yudhvir Singh usually rides his BMW GS1200 Rally - he takes it touring, he commutes on it daily (some 60-70 km), and he even hits the trails on it, hard.
A few months ago, I told him to switch to a Hero XPulse for trails - the BMW is after all a very expensive bike and damage to it will cost as much as a new XPulse, probably.
He did that. And he quite enjoys it on trails.
But somehow he is now inclined towards a Royal Enfield Himalayan 400.
But why is that? The Himalayan's strengths are long distance touring - Yudhvir already has the big BMW for that - and the XPulse is far better on trails.
Is there more that meets the eye here? Watch him explain.
Also, this video was an impromptu one - shot to showcase the difference between fully knobby tyres and dual purpose tyres on loose sand. The XPulse vs Himalayan part is just an add-on bonus.
Let me know what you think of it.

Probably the only youtuber who cares about the description. Details matter.

Last point was bang on. The security of having big bikes will always be on your mind. True.

Xpulse is good for students like me who only travel college tuition home ... And sometimes a short tour of 100,150km in one direction ... Which can be done on 80-95kmph cruising speed ...... And in Pune there are lots of distination in these range 😎 .... So bikes like Himalayan , 390 adventure are too much over powered and costly for me...and even milage is big advantage in my daily commute...... If your requirements are more than this , than you should think of Himalayan and 390 adventure.......

That's exactly what I did. Went from Xpulse to 390ADV and then to Himalayan for very same reasons

The opinion comes from a riding ace who is a Gs 1200 owner, it is natural for him to feel xpulse very underpowered and go for the re himalayan......but now xpulse is used for going distances as well as off roads.....though it does lack the power.....

I just got my Himalayan delivered last week and this video simply made me jump with joy. The new Himalayan is so smooth now.

Great demo sans Himalayan, but that doesn't matter at all, as most motorcylists know what it's capable of, in that category. Also, Q&A with experienced riders helps a lot! Many thanks for covering this in a short and crisp video. Clarifies lot of doubts. This should serve as a decision making video for riders contemplating between both machines to suit their purpose/requirements! Cheers!
