  • Howdy Folks! This will be my first "Unboxing" video. The item I'll be unboxing is the Snugpak Special Forces Sleep System. The system is comprised of two sleeping bags (a summer weight and an intermediate winter weight), a connector baffle device with a storage bag, and 3 different-sized compression bags. The sleeping bags can be used separately or combined for a zero-degree Fahrenheit sleeping bag. I'll share my first impressions of this sleep system as I unbox and assemble it.

    I love the fact that that tan matches your forest behind you

      It must be the camera... From my perspective it was way to light.

    By far, this is the BEST unboxing & commentary I’ve seen on any sleep system. I’ve had the lighter bag for over 20 years & used it on the ground in snow (with a ground pad underneath); in the desert with the Boy Scouts; and especially in my Clark Jungle Hammock in torrential rain. I even use it every day as a light cover at night (that’s how much I love it.

    Snugpak is great. I bought the Antarctica which starts off at -20C, added a fleece liner and SF Bivvi. For warmer temperatures I have a lightweight and a medium weight Snugpaks with silk liners and cheaper SOL escape Bivvi's. However they do not come in multicam, but that's okay. Canada, cheers.

    Loved the jenga reference to the back of a vehicle. Nothing like opening the tailgate and crouching low to put your hand inside the rear of the vehicle preventing things from falling out while slowly opening the tailgate. Love the video!!

    Hey, John I see where you're coming from with the multicam and how you would be kind of upset with this. I actually do have the multicam one and it is really nice. This is definitely the best tiered sleeping system on the market.
    Also, I did manage to find a 100% multicam compression pack; however, multicam isn't a deal breaker for me because my compression bag, along with all of my other gear, is going to be in my pack, so it's basically a non-issue for me. What I find the most interesting is how you and I had the literal exact same thought process for the exact things we needed to buy.
    I am currently using this pack system in conjunction with a haven tent XL hammock, a pomoly canvas tarp, and pomoly titanium stove. I bring that stuff everywhere with me because of the versatility that I can do. Literally go anywhere or do anything. I wanted a 4 season kit, which is versatile from Hawaii to Alaska.
    I think this review is needed. You went into detail when no one else on UA-cam has for this.

      Thank you very much for this comment! I have a couple Granite Gear Multicam compression sacks. They will be fine for the individual bags but I don't have one large enough for the system. I want to try out my pack frame this winter, so the system sack will be exposed.
      I really love the camp system you have assembled! An Alaska to Hawaii camp system would be awesome!
      I appreciate your support and kind words my friend.
      I pray you have a great Holiday Season and a very happy New Year!

    Just a little note on why the bivvy and stuff sacks arent camo, in britain we dont tend to use them, youll get issued the kit and then youd sack the stuff sacks off. Put your Bags inside the bivvy and then stuff that into your bergain main compartment so its always ready to go.
    In regards to the bivvy, 90% if the time we sleep under our basha so a lot of the time you dont even need a camo bivvy.

      THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! I love learning through the comments and you have educated me! I am a huge fan of UK military kit. Very practical and ergonomic. If it weren't for the shipping cost, I'd own a great deal of it. In particular UK webbing and bergens. I'm also intrigued with the crusader cook set. Far superior in concept than the canteen cup and mess tin I was issued 41 years ago in the U.S. Army. Thank you again! Cheers!

    YOU tell a GOOD STORY and you tell it very well! I am one who believes the story is half the pleasure of a video based on experience. Looking at the trees behind you, the desert tan looks good to go. The few years I spent in desert environments involved sands of many shades. As a civilian, CONCEALMENT was the least of my needs. My thought: this time of the year, any GREEN on a sack is a giveaway.

    • @boonedockery7220
      @boonedockery7220  2 роки тому

      I'm picky. The tan wasn't horrible, but in person it is to light. Usually our winter days are gray and dark. The tan will really stand out when it grays out again. It might not be noticeable but there is quite a bit of green in my neck of the woods all winter long.

    Congrats on the new acquisition👍👍. Just a side note, Im sure you've heard of Carinthia. They also make their bags in multicam. The Defence 4 and Tropen is a two bag system for well below 0.

    Thank you - I've been thinking about buying this system for a while, and between this video and the one about your modifications I've decided to bite the bullet and go for it. One thing though: according to the Snugpak website, you were right first time with the SF2 going inside the SF1. I think it's so you have the neck baffle up against you.

    Love my SNUGPAK warm weather kit…but for winter I still rely on my MMSS. Hate being cold so I deal with the bulk and weight. I’ve been snug as a bug around 10 degrees F up in woods in winter. Look forward to hearing how this kit performs this winter. Great video brother. D😎🇺🇸🙏

    • @boonedockery7220
      @boonedockery7220  2 роки тому +1

      I apologize for the extremely late reply! I have missed my comments very much! Thank You! I agree with you completely about the warmth factor of the MMSS! It's also a little roomier than the Snugpak. The best part (I.M.H.O.) is the Gore-Tex Bivy Cover! If you have at least a poncho, you can camp in virtually any weather condition. I've laid mine on top of the snow before and it was fine. I just had to be very careful getting in and out of it!😉😀👍

      @@boonedockery7220 no problem. I have both bag systems. I love my SNUGPAK but it’s really small. I feel trapped in it. My mmss is just my favorite. Have the complete system. Been sleeping in 12 degrees and rain latley. Once I’m in and carefully zipped up, I’m out zzz in minutes. I always wake up with it unzipped because I’m roasting😂. Use military polypropylene base layer, wool socks and cap. It’s a monster, heavy, but I just can’t go without it in cold wet weather. ATB brother. D😎🇺🇸

    You can get a British Goretex Bivvy in MTP which is very similar to the MC. I got one delivered (new) for $150 from England.

    Snugpak compression bags are too small .. the sf1 is so hard to get back into its bag ! so what Ive done is add a 4inch collar to the top of the stuff sack (SF1) this gives me something to tug on while getting bag back into the compression bag ...

    John, can you dye these materials to the color you want? By-the-way, I spent a few days in a military sleep system while in Korea in the late 60's. I slept on the concrete floor of a quonset hut with 6 feet of snow packed on its outsides There were a whole bunch of other guys there too. So even in the USAF we had chances to use sleeping bags. Now-a-days I use a camper with heat and an ELECTRIC BLANKET! While I don't plan on replacing my sleeping bag [yes I do use it on overnight fishing trips] I did enjoy the video. Good to hear from you my brother.

      There are dyes for synthetic fabrics but not a lot of variety in color choices. Thanks for sharing to memory from Korea! Great Stuff! Perhaps one day I'll try one of those "Camper" things😉😊😆👍 Have a Merry Christmas Brother!

    Outstanding Brother, I totally enjoyed watching and learning, I love your honesty, or should I say, keeping it real. My Stepson that's in the Marines in Japan, Suprised me and Bought me the MSS Sleeping System, and also a Eureka Extreme cold weather 4 person Tent, the Tent and the Camo Rainfly is Brand new, but the Artic White Rainfly has some Brown Spots, on 3/4 of the Rainfly, Keep in mind Brother, I'm very new at using Tents and Sleeping Systems, are Family always Slept in are Cabin, and we have are Motorcycles and Jetboat, so I'm going to try to Start Roughing it. I do have a question, my new Sleeping System, I put it all together, and then I Rolled it up, and then I Slid the System into the Compersion Bag, Is it going to hurt my Sleeping System keeping it Stored that way, I really don't have the Room to Be able to Hang it up, it really seems Huge rolled up, My loving Phillipno wife of 22 Year's Suprised me and Yesterday I received a Box,and inside of it, was a New FILBE USMC SYSTEM 12 PIECE SET. I was totally blown away, that was my Christmas present, It's also Huge, but I'm 6'3 240lbs I think going to work out fine, after your Awesome review on the IBLE pack, I was really thinking hard about purchasing it, I really have alot to learn, I hope to keeping watching and learning from your experience, I also want to wish You and your Family, a Very Happy Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 and a Happy New Year. I think you are a Awesome Human being. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God Bless you 🙏 and your family and God Bless America 🇺🇸 🙏 and God Bless all of the Great Veterans and First Responders 🙏 🇺🇸

      Great to hear from you again Rick! Your tent, sleep system and new FILBE are going to be a great kit! With your frame, it will all work out great! If you don't have room to hang your bag when not in use, just don't compress the compression straps. Before you take it camping tumble your individual components in your dryer on LOW heat for about 15 minutes. That should rejuvenate the insulation fibers. Synthetic insulation is much more forgiving with extended compression than natural.
      I deeply appreciate your kind words and support brother! I pray you and yours have a Very Merry Christmas! Prayers for wonderful things for you in the New Year!
      In Full Agreement With You Mo Rick!
      God Bless You!
      God Bless America By Saving America!
      Prayers For Our Military, Veterans And First Responders!
