  • Here's the absolutely awesome Performance Mixer and Mutes Expander from WMD. An amazingly feature packed and great sounding mixer for your eurorack system. 6 mono channels, 2 stereo channels, 2 auxiliaries, mix input (unity stereo in), cue mixing, headphone amp, A/B or A+B input switching on the mono channels master 2 bus stereo send and return. Totally ace. CV over level and pan and aux levels too. Mutes expander gives mutes for all 8 channels and 2 auxes plus the two additional channels on the stereo channel expander module (not in the video). The Mutes Expander also gives CV over the first four channels aux send CV amounts too.

      DivKidVideo no worries. :) keep up the good work. Also have you any recommendations for an overdrive module to warm/crunch up drums and/or digital synths? Thanks again.

      Hey James, RYO Optodist is great there's also the range of channel style modules from FEEDBACK which I'm having loads of fun with. Gain, level, high and low EQ. Sounds great! I'm using those as mini channel strips for colour and shaping with drive and basic EQ and all sorts.

    This along with the Befaco Hexmixer and Qu-Bit Mixology are my favorite Eurorack mixers. For a small mixer, the Befaco STMix is great.

    Very want! The feedback thing is wonderful. I've ordered an NLC Cluster (8x4 VC matrix mixer) to be the core of my experiment with a whole bunch of spring reverbs. It looks like this performance mixer would actually be extremely well-suited to pairing with Cluster... hmmm ermahgerd so very many VCAs!

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  7 років тому

      Very well suited, I haven't seen the NLC Cluster but that sounds good. I have a passive 4x4 matrix mixer that's good fun. I like sending various LFOs around with it.

    This is my dream module. My only resistance stems from the amount of real estate it takes up.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  5 років тому

      I don't know how they'd make it any smaller. But it's a tough one in or out of the rack mixing.

    • @originalfallinggirl

      DivKidVideo based on your review I just pulled the trigger and bought it. Unfortunately I had to buy a new case for it too. I have my cases organized as percussion, melodic and “controllers” (where I will now house this mixer and the mute extension, Hermod, Circadian Rhythms, 1010 ToolBox, Trigger Riot, Metropolis and Pamela’s New Workout). I bought my first Intellijel case this time around. I’m greatly disappointed in my Doepfer Monster case which is SERIOUSLY underpowered. I LOVE my Pittsburgh Modular wooden cases, Mantis and Arturia RackBrute. I would have gone with another Pittsburgh Modular case but the Intellijel is more flight worthy.
      Anyway, sorry for the lengthy response. I just get excited talking Modular and you’re my Elvis!

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  5 років тому +1

      Shame about the monster case, I'd presume they were cram packed with the power and the new PSU-3's no?

    • @originalfallinggirl
      @originalfallinggirl 5 років тому +1

      DivKidVideo yes, it has PSU-3’s but only two of them and it has three 168hp rows. It can power a very weak rig at best. The worst part is that not all modules have LEDs to indicate whether or not they are working so you can think you’re going mad when a VCA is power sagging and you’re not getting any sound at the mixer. My biggest problem was Hot Glue. It wouldn’t work on any row with modules spread fairly evenly, power wise. I have to admit that I didn’t configure it on modular grid but you would expect a $1,200 case to have more than enough power. Even my first Mantis cases never had an issue with power despite being packed with power hungry modules. Be careful with this case.

    • @neverfox
      @neverfox 5 років тому +1

      @@DivKid They could have built muting into the main module (seems like either an oversight in the main module or a way to get you to buy more). And while they were at it, true soloing would be nice and would have fit. Also a bit disappointed that the two aux buses have to be switched rather than being truly dual with separate levels. That said, I think eurorack has yet to produce the perfect performance mixer. Frap Tools CGM system comes close but that's real $ and hp.

    I have been playing with mine for a month. Love it. I just discovered aux. Eye opening. When adding the PM Mutes, isn’t the channel 1&2 aux send cv redundant since they are both on the mixer and mute? Thanks for any reply.

    • @ArthurvanAarssen
      @ArthurvanAarssen 4 роки тому

      Aux send CV isn't actually on the mixer though, just level and pan CV ;)

    I have this and love it; quick question, what is the next in chain for output? I am currently using Intellijel Audio Interface II, but looking for options.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 років тому +1

      I use the Praxis - Snake Charmer providing 8 outputs on a DB25 snake cable over to my interface.

  • @sliceofsparta8985
    @sliceofsparta8985 3 роки тому +2

    It's nice to see you have options for returning a stereo effect from an aux out, but it's really disappointing that more mixers don't include a straight up stereo aux return. Leave it to DivKid to find a workaround lol

    Just had an idea. Make the A/B switch switchable via trigger or gate or CV.

  • @dbsphin
    @dbsphin 7 років тому +3

    Hi Ben, nice to catch up briefly at Superbooth. Another great video. Question: can you consider the CV level controls as genuine full fat VCAs? That is, could you have a standard East Coast VCO>VCF pair patch straight to its WMD channel VCA, under EG control, and consider that the whole voice, with the respective fader just controlling level post-VCA? Or are the WMD's VCAs intended only for 'post-voice' level control (i.e. fader automation already, rather than part of the source voice)?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  7 років тому +4

      Oh absolutely, first thing I did was to test them that way. Oscillators straight in and just envelope on the mixer channel level ins worked great too where you don't require filtering or use oscillators with shaping on board. So you got a lot of VCAs if you want to look at it that way. The channels level LEDs lighting up on the sliders is really helpful for this too as you see your envelopes bouncing around the channels.

    • @dbsphin
      @dbsphin 7 років тому +1

      Fantastic, many thanks Ben, that's great. To be sure, it's not a cheap module but then view it as 8 VCAs with massive additional functionality, and it suddenly sounds superb value for money. (Sorry this reply was slow, I rarely post on YT and haven't got the hang of the notifications!) Thanks again, very useful.

      So, if I understand you correctly, I can get rid of my Intellijel Quad VCA if I get this? What advantage would having a Quad VCA have over this? I have a strong temptation to get rid of my PanMix and Quad VCA and use this instead.
      Second question: Does the cue send work as a mute, effectively? I.e. when a given channel is sent to the cue mix, I'd assume it's not present in the main mix. True? So why do I need the mutes expander if I can do that (I get that the combo mute thing is cool, but again, if I can press multiple cue buttons simultaneously...)

  • @housemachine509
    @housemachine509 5 років тому +1

    On the fence btw this and the Pittsburgh system interface but geez it’s the price and then that mutes expander is additional but I just love this layout

    How’s the channel separation on this one? I have a few mixers and they all seem to have some crosstalk...

    • @geraldgoodiii6993
      @geraldgoodiii6993 4 роки тому +1

      Nundale there is a little but as wmd says.. that’s a ton of analog circuits in a small space. Mine has some cross talk between 7-8. Those channels seems to need a less hot signal without a TON of upper harmonics.
      I couldn’t live without this in my rack tho.
      And if I record stems or record a jam the master mix sounds more gelled and cohesive. It’s a great mixer.

    Is the PM difficult to wiggle with all the patch holes taken?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  7 років тому +1

      Hey, absolutely not, as they're up top or down the right hand size it's really easy with the space to work turning and pushing things around.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  6 років тому +4

      gate to mute? A mute that you can use a GATE to turn on and off? Just put the gate in the LEVEL CV input and that will mute and turn off with the gate for you.

    Why no one does an eurorack mixer with two sends chanels? I would love to have one for reverb and one for delay...
    Or maybe there is already one and I don´t know it...

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  7 років тому +1

      this has two sends, aux 1 and aux 2. I use two different FX in the examples in the video.

    • @javiergoldin
      @javiergoldin 7 років тому +1

      Sorry I misspoke , I mean that is not possible to control individual volume for each send in each channel, right? or I am missing something?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  7 років тому

      ah ok, in that case no. It's aux 1 or aux 2. You mean individual send levels. Intellijel Dubmix with it's expanders maybe?

  • @witchbutter

    This thing is awesome but $850 and 46HP pretty much guarantees I'll carry around an outboard mixer :/

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  7 років тому +2

      That's fair enough, if you're not wanting to CV it all and use it just to sum stuff outboard makes sense.
