Headache Self-Massage | Headaches That Start In Your Neck

  • If you get headaches that start at the base of your skull, or maybe your upper neck, this little self-massage trick is definitely worth trying!
    This quick self-massage tip is a favorite with my patients who get headaches, and it only takes about 30 seconds to try.
    I recommend trying 5 passes on each side, especially if you feel a headache coming on -- very often you can keep it from getting worse. Or if you already have a headache, try this technique and see if it gets you some relief.

    I would think about the possibility of a cerebrospinal fluid leak in patients with back of head/neck pain. The loss of csf causes the brain to sag down at the back putting pressure on pain sensitive structures. Especially when this pain does not respond to usual treatments and these patients return again and again.
    This looks like a great trick to help with a muscular/tension based issue.
