    Whichever person is using this video as their tutorial for knitting... Kudos to you man. I was so taken back when she started explaining how to make a slip knot and how to cast on. I was like "what kinda person who can't even make a slip knot is here trying to knit a sweater?" But I realize there are actually some really ambitious people out there. If that's you, keep going. You'll get good at this really fast

      yikes no! it's an English knitter. they throw their yarn! continental knitting and speed knitting is much more efficient. check out how hazel tindell knits. fastest knitter in the world. she is very cute tho! totally adorable, but her knitting is terribly inefficient. it's okay, my mom taught me the wrong way to knit so it's twisted, but okay. no problems. but she did know continental style

    I really loved the timer for disciplining yourself. That confirmed my "make specific time" thoughts. Twenty five minutes is a good start for high activity, high anxiety people like me. That's usually when my attention floats. I started crocheting to help my daughter who discovered knitting and is now in business. I wanted to help her continue to have authentic hand made pieces. I really got it going after my kids dad passed away. It really helped my anxiety and settled the thoughts. Thank you for your tips.

      @aletarossi-thomas152 4 роки тому +1

      I agree with you about the 'make the time' , my mind goes 1000 miles an hour most of the time. I'm working on a project now which is quite long, so I calculated how many inches I'd have to knit a day in order to meet my deadline ( geek-ish , I know :) ) the time to knit a little more than 1" came out to about 20 minutes a day. This is management, so I watch an episode of a favorite TV show at the same time :)

    Your video was A#1. I am a 70 y/o retired woman who has taken up crochet after about 32 years of not doing any of it (after I married my (2nd) current husband. No time! But now that I'm retired, I've discovered crochet again. The problem is that I have end stage osteoarthritis and my arms and hands hurt a lot when I've tried to get back into knitting again. Seeing this video has challenged me now to try this sweater. You are a fabulous instructor and I've ordered the materials and will, hopefully, be successful. I thank you for this video, so very much indeed.

      It's a few days since I wrote that above. I want you to know I've just completed the first 11 rows of this sweater using those giant circular needles. Oh my aching hands.. I have ordered some straight ones to see if they are easier to handle for me but I consider this a huge success that I've done the first 11 rows (just started to not slip the first stitch)... so a HUGE THANK YOU for this video again, it is so well done.

      Which cast on stitch? She shows us two techniques. They both make sense to me. The finger gun stitch allows for a stretch on the base, but the other one is more tense and will not stretch as much. This is good for blankets or other projects where too much stretch is unnecessary or problematic.

    I finished this sweater. It was a fun project & Jade did a great job. Only problem, it would fit a giant. I looked like the Michelin Man -- huge shoulders, puffy over-sized sleeves that hung past my hands. I soaked & blocked it in hopes it would shrink. It expanded & is now a dress. The arms hang down to my knees. I followed the pattern & video meticulously & bought the yarn from Wool & The Gang -- Zoot Suit Blue. I bought the 50 US glittery needles & the 17 US smaller ones. I knitted the gauge to check my knitting beforehand. But, I would have to gain 100 lbs for it to fit. I wonder how many reviewers have actually made the sweater. Also, I don't know what kind of summers they have where she is, but this sweater is hotter than hell. I had to pull it off because I was roasting. It is NOT a cool summer sweater by any means. It is pretty though. Just wish it fit b/c then if it ever freezes in CA, I could wear it. Also, I bought the extra ball of yarn to make the funnel neckline (can't imagine how hot THAT would be), but at the end of the vid., she doesn't show how to do that, so I went with the crew. I enjoyed the knitting journey, but my sweater will prob. never be worn. So very disappointing.

      Sonerila - frog it and make a few decorative pillows for your bed. At least you could get some use out of that yarn. Use the smaller scraps for Pom poms and attach to the pillow corners for a bit of whimsy.

      @Sonerila. If you like the sweater measure how much too large per percent it is for you. Then use that as a guide and buy thinner yarn and knitting needles ( probably about 25-30% smaller) and use the same stitch counts, should work well.

    I have started making this sweater, very much a beginner!. The tutorial is excellent, I love Jades approach. There are a few things I had to check; other specific tutorials to ensure I had it right and who went into a bit more detail. In particular the increasing stitch I struggle with. After following Jades instruction I appeared to have a gaps where the increased stitchs are. I took it to my very experienced knitting neighbour, who put me right doing it a slighty different way. She also tried it jades way, but the gaps still remained! The large needles are not easy by the way, but the benefit is you can very quickly make a sweater. Overall this has given me a lot of personal satisfaction as a very new knitter and completing a sweater which I like. Thankyou

      Katherine Canon i explained to someone.. if i spin you wool for a jumper, lets say cos i spin it i need a kg of fibre, now, sure, i can get some ok. Stuff for 12gbp, but i need to spend say 2 - 3 hours spinning it to get dk wool. Per 100g. I then need to knit the sweater, say i do 5-6 hours monday to friday and more say 10 each day at weekends, i can probably do that in 2.5 weeks maybe 3. Lets say i ask half minimum wage, would you pay me 80-120 for making the wool and 360 for 2 weeks knitting? No? Well at 90 hours for the knitting.. plus ... going with minimums it will take me 110 hours, maybe 165 hours if its complicated etc.. thats 4.1something working weeks.. how much would you want for a months salary?
      Its easy to forget when machines can chuck wool and then knitted jumpers in almost minutes..

    I can't thank you enuff for this video. I have a huge case of ADD and following directions is one of the hardest things for me. Also keeping track of where and what I am doing. With this video and am able to back track watch it over and over. I may not make the prettiest or neatest sweater but I will be able to finish it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Its hard for some of us.

    This is an absolutely fantastic video and a great tutorial for knitting a sweater. I'm almost finished. Funny though - I learned how to knit when I was a girl and it all came back to me. Interestingly, I never wrap the yarn around the needle. I always hold the yarn in my left hand (I'm right handed), spun between my index finger and little finger and I move the needle around the yarn. I don't move the yarn around the needle. The results are the same, but it's a very different method and it looks very different when knitting. Does anyone know what I mean?

    • @Lexi-zy5yn
      @Lexi-zy5yn 3 роки тому

      That called continental knitting. There are two styles, continental, where you hold the yarn in your left hand, and English, where you hold it in your right hand and "throw" it, or wrap it, around the needle. They are just two different ways to knit! I hope this helps.

    This is such a calming and instructive video - thank you for it! This video taught me how to count stitches, how to purl, knit, cast on in 2 different ways, increase/decrease, and ribbing. It's a great way to learn how to knit, especially if you go into it with a mind to practice and redo sections as needed.
    I wanted to give a warning out there to anyone else who balked at the price of Crazy Sexy Wool and looked for a replacement yarn for this sweater. I found a good deal on Buttercream Luxe Craft Cozy Yarn and made this sweater with it. It did not turn out well. The seams at the shoulders were bulky and the sweater did not hang well. It looked more like a muscle shirt. So I recommend that you NOT use Buttercream Luxe cozy yarn for this sweater. The buttercream luxe yarn works well for the size 17 needles but is very bulky.
    (This was my first knitting project ever, but I watched this video over and over and redid sections over and over so I don't think my issues were due to my inexperience).
    Ultimately, I took the sweater apart and am now making another one with just the size 17 needles (different pattern, obviously) and plan to avoid seams at the shoulders because of the yarn.
