    Vests are stylish AF, and can create a whole other look than with a jacket.

  • @jasonvoorhees895

    I tried this look once....once. My take on it was this: NOT taking any "style rules" into consideration, this only really looks good if you're thin, or maybe just a little muscular. I had a little bit of a gut at the time, and I felt like the vest just accentuated it. Made my torso look too big and my arms too small. I've recompositioned my build quite a bit so it might look better these days, but I think you're right and you should always have a jacket with you. That way, if you look great in a vest, you can take the jacket off, but you didn''t show up incomplete.

    • @TurkeyShaman
      @TurkeyShaman 3 роки тому +8

      I find the opposite to be true. As a bigger guy, a jacket just makes me look insanely fat. A vest covers where my pants and my belly meet instead of showing that awkward line that accentuates my fat belly. I go from looking like a fat guy who cant dress himself to looking like a college professor from just putting on the vest.

    • @jasonvoorhees895
      @jasonvoorhees895 3 роки тому +3

      @@TurkeyShaman LOL, that's funny, because I started wearing jackets specifically for the slimming effect they had on me, and I was disappointed that a vest didn't do the same thing for me. HOWEVER...it's also possible that I wasn't wearing the right fit for a vest at the time. I haven't always known how to dress right lol. That having been said, right after I left that first comment, I ended up on a video where the creator was dressed in a vest and tie, and I think that the vest look says "Yes, I respect formality, but I'm also here to WORK."

      @@jasonvoorhees895 Although I agree with you that jackets will hide the stomach better, I think it's a great option for warmer summer days. I find vests are much more breathable and they can hide the excess fat better than a normal dress shirt and pants especially where they both meet.

    I love wearing a vest. As a teacher, wearing a sports jacket or a suit is considered a bit too shocking to the culture, but vests feel ok. I still wear a suit sometimes, but I actually think I like vests more. You totally can pull it off if you want.

    Now, there is a type of vests out there which is designed to be worn without a jacket. Main difference being the back fabric and the front fabric are the same-as opposed to suit vests which come with a thin silk type of fabric on the rear to keep them from being too bulky under the jacket. If you wear one of these standalone, jacket-replacement vests combined with a good shirt this would definitely be a look a lot of men can pull off. What do you guys think?

    I never thought much about wearing my vest without my jacket, until this past weekend at my wife's Birthday dinner. I had removed my jacket and rolled up my sleeves and I must have killed the look because I was getting so many complements on my rolled up shirt, vest and tie combo. The attention was definitely noticeable. I ordered 2 more vest yesterday and will use that combo more often. Thank you Antonio, I truly look forward to your videos and advise on all my outfits.

    The big thing you mustn’t do is wear a waistcoat (“vest”) with a belt as you’ve pictured here - it breaks the continuity between waistcoat and trousers. Either wear braces (“suspenders”) or fitted trousers if you’re wearing one!

    Really enjoying the addition of these short segments. I really love the vest look and have incorporated it into my Sunday church wear. Some days I go with the jacket over it and others I don’t. It depends on factors like the weather, how long I’m going to be in service and whether or not I’m really feeling the look without the jacket.

    The waistcoat and tie look (especially if combined with rolled up shirt sleeves) looks like the jacket has been taken off because the person is working hard and as such, gives an energetic impression to the wearer. Although one could wear it badly and completely ruin that impression.

    Wearing a waistcoat, shirt and tie with no jacket, in my experience, tends to create one of two looks. Either like some sort of hipster (depending on what it is worn with, e.g. skinny jeans), which is not my thing, or it looks like somebody wearing a jacket, who has temporarily taken it off.
    The second appearance can be very beneficial, as it gives a lot more energy to somebody's appearance, in a way that just a shirt and tie (which has become so commonplace) does not.

    If you don't wanna get a "mufin top" either use high waist pants and if needed suspenders to hold them up. Another option is to get a longer waistcoat.

    you can opt for a casual vest, knitted ones that can be regarded as sleeveless sweaters or sleeveless cardigans if they have buttons. If you can pull off a tie with a sweater, then you can with those alternatives without looking as formal as with the waistcoats that requires a jacket. However the tie has to be casual as well

    That's a very intriguing topic of discussion. I think it depends on the situation - like you said - but also the physique of the person wearing it.
    In my opinion, thin or well-built men can wear a vest without a jacket.
    But in heavier men, the jacket really builds up the shoulders to sort of evens the physique rather than have a wider belly and hip and slimmer shoulders.
    Besides, wearing a vest that contrasts the colour of the shirt would also make the arms look bigger which is great for the well-built or thin men, but it won't look that good on heavier men with big arms.

    I think it depends on the vest. A vest like AC has on (which pairs with a suit) isn't a good look, IMHO. But Western-style vests (typically longer and squared-off at the bottom) can take the place of a sports jacket for many casual and some semi-formal occasions.

    Thanks for the video!. I will give my opinion on this subject. I work in the dutch politics. And always listen to my body temperature. That i mean that if i have it too warm I take out the jacket and leave the vest on. Especially in these cold days i like top wear a vest ( 3 piece) because it's colder. And when im in a warmer or less formal place, l take the jacket off. Again I always listen to my body temperature and calibrate with the environment. know yourself, know your mission and social operational environment.

    Well, the covering of the waistband rule is only really applicable for black tie and white tie. Other than that for daywear, you’d never have to find it compulsory to cover your waistband. If you’re considering a tie and a vest look, I suggest just ditching the vest entirely, and going for just the jacket.

    Actually, a vest & bow tie is my go-to daily wear. As a chiropractor, I'm looking to keep my style professional, but I have to be able to move in what I'm wearing to see patients. I find the vest (with lapels) hits that note for me, yet with my shirt sleeves rolled up, I still look casual and relatable. In a more professional setting where I'm presenting or at a conference, the jacket goes on.
