Eddy Van Halen was asked on Mtv in an interview about what makes rock music, and does it have to be a hard electric guitar. His answer was, Look at Led Zepplin, they are considered the best rock band ever and half their songs are acoustic.
Thank You was our wedding song it holds a special place in my ❤. I am loving watching you both go on your LZ journey, mine started when they started and I still listen every day!!! You did indeed hear another voice that would be our resident badass Mr. Jimmy Page. Look forward to so many more face melting bangers from Zeppelin!!! ☮️
This song is a great testament to Zeppelin's diversity. Yes, that was Jimmy Page on backing vocals. I'm fairly certain it's the only song that we ever hear his singing voice on.
Jimmy added backing vocals on many tracks. So did JPJ and Bonham. Bonham had the best voice of the three. If you search: She Just Satisfies, you can hear a single Jimmy released in 1966 as a solo artist with Jimmy singing lead vocals.
Jimmy added backing vocals on Communication Breakdown, Good Times Bad Times, Whole Lotta Love (live), Thank You, What Is And What Should Never Be, Living Living Maid, Gallows Pole, Tangerine (live), That's The Way (live), Bron Yaur Stomp (live 1977), Tangerine (live), That's The Way (live), and The Ocean. I suspect he did background vocals on Southbound Suarez and Your Time Is Gonna Come, but I can't prove it. There were probably others too, but they are harder to confirm.
I was 18 years old when Led Zeppelin's first album dropped. It totally blew a whole Generations mind at once and it's been doing it ever since. Peace ✌️ ☮️
Know doubt led zeppelin know matter how many rock and roll groups came out from the 60 or 70 or 80 or 90 and beyond led zeppelin will always be the definition of rock and roll and best band ever to walk planet earth case dismissed
The version of this song on BBC Sessions is unreal. This song, with one of the powerful and emotional electric solos in the middle...definitely give it a shot.
The only song that has an outside singer in Zeppelin's discography is Battle Of Evermore on the 4th album. The singer on that is Sandy Denny from the band Fairport Convention. Love you guy's reactions by the way
My wife had never heard Led Zeppelin before, being from another country... This is the song I introduced her to the band with years ago. It's my ring tone on her phone... Such fantastic ability...
Thanks for mentioning JPJ because it sounds like you’re a fan like I am of his contributions and the color that he adds to the music. He’s criminally underrated and overlooked except by musicians who realize that Zeppelin wouldn’t have been Zeppelin without him. He’s a master bass player, but it goes way beyond that with all those keyboard parts, stringed instruments and pedals heard throughout their catalog (except on Presence lol). He makes up for it on In Through The Out Door because Page was all strung out and he had to step up, like it or lump it lol.
Best ballad ever. I remember a Rolling stones interview when Jimmy was asked if Zeppelin was going to incorporate keyboards in their music to keep up with the times. He asked them if they ever listened to any of Zeps music. After Zeppelin II, the critics said they couldn't do normal music. ZEPPELIN III was their response...a complete 180 that shut everyone's mouth.
If you have a little time, listen to Led Zeppelin No Quarter 1975/05/24@ London, England. All 23 minutes improvisation of that song. JBJ on keyboards and bass pedal. Every time they do that song its different.
Zepplin would frequently take a break and play an acoustic set in the middle of their concerts. What makes the band so great is the flexibility. Jones and Paige played multiple instruments. Jones is a master on the mandolin and organ. Jimmy could play a wide variety of acoustic guitar with the touch of an angel. They would frequently weave traditional English folk music into a blues-rock fusion. The beginning of Stairway to Heaven is one example. Paige and Jones were originally studio musicians. Not the usual thump and bang garage bands that followed.
To give you some insight into why they were so talented and so young, JPJ and JP were both studio musicians before LED Zeppelin formed. Jimmy Page had played on over 1700 albums by the time he formed Led Zeppelin at the age of 23. Also to note, back then songs were being loosely Recorded with just singles in mind with the expectation that Jimmy Page would add creative guitar work and not just play someone else stuff. Jimmy Page's brainchild built from his ideas to create a rock band was Led Zeppelin. Plant, being a huge Elvis fan helped give the band a swing blues base to build the endless Jimmy page sound permutations. Also, this was the period where the highest genre experimentation occurred. Jazz, funk, country, blues, rock, and folk are well represented by Zeppelin and by my calculations because of the 1700 albums Jimmy Page had experienced playing on. 10000 hours equal genius which Jimmy had surpassed before Led Zeppelin even formed. This can also be said about Jimi Hendrix Playing the Chittlin circuit of other music by the time he had advanced improv skills. the biggest difference being Page had more in-studio experience, and less live to produce more top-quality material which I believe Jimi was close on his heels by the time he died. Also, Led Zeppelin had great management where Jimi's was rotten which some argue was a catalyst for his death, as he was also being pressured to flip a buck by short-sighted opportunists. In addition, the advanced sound of Led Zeppelin came from huge analog recording desks running dozen of tubes and the release of a ton of experimental sound electronics that they were the first to use, all hand wired which makes the difference. Certainly, Jimi and Jimmy were perhaps the two best improv guitarists ever to play the electric guitar. I can tell you from experience, improv guitar carries the most emotional weight because of how tightly it is tied to your soul. Also, Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead should be mentioned, another rabbit hole to explore for instance China Cat Sunflower blends country, folk jazz, funk, and rock> Listen to the 72 europe live version.
Robert wrote this song for his wife and it was the first Zep song he wrote primarily himself. Jimmy had the "little drops of rain..." section and harmonizes with Robert on it. The rest didn't often sing with Robert but there are a few songs. Zep blended acoustic and electric guitar from their first album and their instrumentation is always top notch.
One of my favorite songs from Led Zeppelin. When Zeppelin formed, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were already seasoned studio musicians. They had the drive and talent for being experimental and innovative with music.
The recording of this is very simple and raw! It is like plug in and play. With a few mic's to catch the sound very well, and let the acoustics of the room they are recording in do the rest? It is who and how your singing and playing is what makes it! It's Led Zeppelin!
To the best of my knowledge the only person other than a member who sang on a couple of Zeppelin tracks was Sandy Denny. Jimmy Page can be heard on a couple.
This is one of my Favorite songs of Led Zeppelin along with "The Rain Song" & "California"....These 3 are my all-time favorites from Led Zeppelin.....The raw emotion displayed ....none like it on this Earth!!!!!! Great Reactions btw!!! I get emotional when I hear "Thank You"......oh yeah.....this is the last song on Side 1.

You guys need to get around to the 3 man Canadian band RusH.... You won't believe it's just 3 guys... But I would for 2112, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures... and do the most requested songs off other albums. RIP Neil Peart (The Professor)
@@AirplayBeats Right on, I'll admit some of their stuff is a bit much for me, like the album Hemispheres (progressive) But a lot of it is Amazing...! "Working Man" was their first song to be played on the radio.
"Thank You" is really the first rock ballad of "New" era of heavier sounding rock bands(1968&up) However as guys have said Led Zeppelin is way more than your typical head banger rock group.
Here's the truth my sweethearts: Led Zeppelin is a complete embodiment of everything you thought. In a simple sense, they are just bringing us what we have experienced in our lives. Then again that's what all music does, right? Led Zeppelin brought us who listened, and reminded us of lovey-dovey points of candor, in which we will proceed to press on to our loves, or to find our loves. The springtime of our loves, smiles. I hope I got that right.
Diversity like this in the first four tracks of their second album…. Just gives credence to their GOAT status. Amazing that at this point in time the band was still not at their creative peak…different era and culture than today but transitions generations effortlessly….. that’s art my brothers… Enjoy…. You got the ticket…. Now it’s time to take the ride
Robert Plant dedicated this to his wife, Maureen. It was the first Zeppelin song that Plant wrote all the lyrics for - something he did at the urging of Jimmy Page. Page played an acoustic guitar solo on this, something he rarely did.

I saw Robert and Jimmy in 1995 while touring Unledded. Check out some of the live concerts from that time.
I was lucky enough to see Led Zep twice in my teenage years at the Omni in Atlanta. This song in particular is so beautiful. I’m happy you guys are doing the whole album.

The back up singers/chorus on this song was John Bonham and John Paul Jones. Also, Jimmy Page sings the 'Want a Whole Lotta Love' chorus on the song "Whole Lotta Love." And yes, that's John Paul Jones on the organ.
Let me just reiterate George Taxi’s comment. Playing “Heartbreaker” and “Living Loving Maid” have always been combined and played together by every FM station (worth a sh*t) back in the day. There is nothing that compares to hearing Led Zeppelin on vinyl!
Bonham playing monstrous drum fills in what is essentially an acoustic song!
When JPJ is playing the keys you wonder who's on bass .. but he's playing bass notes with his feet on bottom pedals of organ...
I did wonder about that. I thought maybe he laid the bass on another track but that would be hard to perform. So that makes sense now. Thank you
you boys doin' it right by reacting to the whole album. Led Zeppelin was not a single's band. Rock on Airplay Beats
My husband sang this to me 41yrs ago and he still calls me if he’s in the car or at work and this comes on the radio. Beautiful song
Just a heads up! The next two tracks "Heartbreaker and "Living Loving Maid" have to be played together. Every radio station did it and still does it.
