I enjoy the presentation, the clear voice, no annoying music... just straight forward instruction. Perhaps ingrained in me to think like you “DO” as a self-taught automotive technician who took all 8 test and passed to become an ASE Master Tech in 1978. If you anything current on vehicles since the early 90’s, I work with electronics, serial data communications, modules or nodes as a part of a much larger system. Using a Fluke 87 type 5 for voltage, voltage drop, frequency is part of that. I see a common theme with static requiring discharging capacitors or transient stay voltage. I liked and subscribed and will be looking your videos as Dell laptops quit for no reason, even a Mac Air my son sent me quit by just simple but stupid. I cleaned the screen & keys w/ damp towel and stuck a key. Turned it on, all clean & pretty, to see the “PW” box fill up w/1 letter. Shut it off, fixed key and now won’t turn on even w/green LED on round magnetic charger cord. Hey, These machines are stacking up like cordwood. Got 5 dead ones, but one works great but on XP PRO. So my son sends me an iPhone and I use the WiFi part, can’t afford the $20 each month for a plan, but I don’t go anywhere. Just a good job in the videos! I hope to get one working because I am 6’3” tall & I can’t see how people use the tiny keyboards on phones. Turned 62 and some things are now a challenge. You never know.
@raihan abmny Are there any other indicators that the computer is turning on besides just the light being on? Any motherboard or hard drive sounds? Is the fan starting?
@PC Monkey Thanks so much was driving my crazy trying to figure it out. Found another video of yours that led me to this video with my same ASUS Laptop with the CMOS battery underneath mother board. Took it out and went to sleep. Put CMOS battery back In. Put it all back together. It's back up and running and more efficient no less. Original issue was I put had my headphone jack scrape the USB port and it just went blank no power no nothing. I took the battery out and held power down. That got the power and charging back but not the laptop. Went to bed was tossing and turning went back to watching and reading forums online. I figured the bios reset with just letting it sit there while I sleep should do the trick. Boom! It did thanks to your help

im going to try these first videos on my ASUS laptop. It used to turn on when i would hold down the power button. It will no longer turn on. Thank you for the videos.
BRUH I FIXED IT. IF NONE OF THESE WORKS YOU GUYS JUST TAKE OUT 1 OR MORE OF YOUR RAM AND PUT IT BACK IN AND PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN AND CHARGER BACK IN AND TURN IT ON
Hi me coming to ya 3 years later, there's many reasons why a computer would turn on without a display. Could be ram, could be your bios, or your display! Happy you identified the problem though!
Hey guys! My laptop started showing me the aptio setup utility evertime I start it and couldn't go further. After some fails trying some bios changes still nothing. And all of the sudden it would just go into aptio and shut down 5-10 seconds afterwards. Do you reckon that it could be the bios battery?
Thank you for your help, this video helped me save my day! Symptom: Nothing hapened when I push power button, battery, charger OK. Helped: BIOS reset on Asus F550V
Thanks for this video. I am your new subscriber. Well I need a solution for my ASUS X407UA Notebook PC with the problem of not being boot up but shows only power indicator. I have tried the hard reset by removing the battery and the power adapter, and press the power-on button for about 30 seconds. At first, I placed the battery back and then the moment I plugged in the power adapter it instantly boots up without pressing the power on button. I've updated its windows OS and all its driver thought it was drivers problem and shutdown it. It worked as normal as before the problem occurred. So I hoped the problem was fixed but it doesn't, when power on the pc it still not boots up, the same as at first. So I did the same procedure again but now I don't place the battery back, I just plugged in the power adapter and it immediately boots up as well in the same way. After shutdown, when press power on button it still not boot up. So I don't what is the problem. suggesting a solution for this would be very much appreciated.
Bummer :( You would have to replace it. They can be very hard to find but you can look for them on ebay. Or you can buy an "AS IS" same motherboard and take one off it. You can see a tutorial of that here; ua-cam.com/video/9_8kR99aZHk/v-deo.html
Yes mate I saw a video just the other day that the presenter used a magnetic mat to hold the screws he took out - brilliant!! Your video was really helpful too and I am wondering what do you do if the battery has been soldered in?
If the CMOS battery is soldered in, then you would have to un-solder it then solder it back :( Why are you trying to reset BIOS this way? Perhaps there is a better way to do it. Can you access BIOS at startup and reset to factory settings from there?
@@PC_Monkey No mate I was just curious as I have only ever had to replace the CMOS battery twice in my desktops and only because they had run out of power.
Thanks for the video. I have my ASUS ROG G752VL to the point of removing the MOBO from the bottom of the case to try removing the CMOS battery. Unlike your advice about just reinserting it at the end of 20 minutes, I will be just replacing it now. It is cheap enough to go ahead and replace so I know that is out of the way when I do a power up. My ROG was black screen with nothing else on power up originally so here we go. My machine is a bit more complicated inside with 2 fans and stuff, but I have the bottom of the MOBO exposed so....
It went blank and switch t he'd of again after my s cond try to put in the password. My Asus is still not working. I will remove the CMOS now to see if we it will work.

Hi great video thanks, I’ve taken mine apart but can’t see a CMOS battery anywhere 🤷♂️ ASUS X540n if it makes a difference do some not have one? Thanks
@@PC_Monkey thanks for the prompt reply. I watched a couple of your videos. on startup it only goes to an automatic repair screen some of the time, when I try that it fails, the rest of the time. It’s looping to bios. The time and date keeps changing so I thought maybe that could be an issue. In bios I noticed I can’t see the hard drive on the “storage” I’ve removed and replaced that and it came on, but then after a reset when time changed back it disappeared again. Connections are all ok. Maybe that’s damaged? Would that keep it from system restoring or starting in this manner? It has shown on and off different times it loops around to Bios
Hi, my ASUS ROG G513Q (Ryzen 9 5900, RTX 3060) there is password in BIOS which I forgot, so can't enter BIOS. CMOS battery is combined with main Battery. How can I completely erase BIOS and replace fresh BIOS ?

Hello 👋. I have an Asus laptop, model k555l with x555ld REV .3.6 main board. I had connected my laptop's cooling pad using a 9-volt and half-ampere adapter, but I wasn't paying attention and the cooling pad was also simultaneously connected to the laptop via the USB port. Now my laptop turns on, but the laptop screen shows no sign of being on. In your opinion, which part has been damaged by this simultaneous connection of the cooling pad adapter and the connection of the cooling pad via USB to the laptop?
1. If the screen is black, what are the signs that the computer is actually turning on? 2. I dont understand. You think you shorted the computer by having the cooling pad plugged into a USB port at the same time as being plugged into the wall outlet? Isnt that the way its designed to be used?
My laptop screen was freezing and I thought removing my battery and putting it back as well as cleaning my RAM with an eraser and putting it back will work. It didn't, I didn't perform a BIOS reset yet, I just took it to the technician first and they found out that my track-pad has spoilt. I bought a wired mouse to use in place of it. I hope this helps.
If your trackpad was shorting out or damaged in a way thats affecting the computer, it may need to be unplugged or removed from the computer. Good luck! Hope the mouse helps!

Hi and thanks for the vid. So to be certain: there's no jumper to short? I've forgotten the password for admin in BIOS so need the reset to factory default to change boot config
Hey, so I have an ASUS G75vx, been running Windows 10 the last 3+ years. Suddenly, when I try to restart, it shuts down only, and when it tries to enter sleep mode, or if I try to shut it down normally, the HDD light will shut off, but pwr light stays steady and I can hear it running(pwr light will blink, if in stand by) When it does that, I am unable to wake it back up, I have to force shut down. I have reformatted w/Windows 10 ( using the updates/recovery menu in settings) I have had no luck searching online, one post suggested to reset the BIOS and that's how I found this vid. I just tried the video 1 link in this description (trying w/o batt and w/o power cable) No change. I'm about to try this vid as well, but not sure I'm headed in the right direction. Do you have any other vids that might be helpful for me to figure out this issue? Other than these pwr mgmt issues, the laptop runs great. I also have a brand new battery in it, previously, I had no battery and had been using the laptop only thru the pwr cable. Thanks.

first of all thank you for youre videos. But I tried everything I even did a BIOS reset with the CMOS battery but I still keep getting stuck in BIOS. I try to update te time and date but it always goes back to the old date and time. What do you think I can do to get my laptop up and running again? btw I have an Asus F550C
If BIOS does not keep the Date/Time settings you are trying to select, most likely it is losing power each time the computer turn off and the settings are being reset. The CMOS battery is the component responsible for maintaining power to the motherboard when the computer is off. Therefor, it may be dead. I would replace it.
@@PC_Monkey thanks for your reply. I used it for a single day and next day it got me in to this condition. Can you help me on that. Just want to know what can I do more on my own before going to repair specialist.
I am unclear on your issue. Does your computer turn on and the screen just not work? You said you used an external monitor and it worked fine. So I assume that means your LCD or LCD Cable is bad and needs to be replaced.

Hi, my asus x453s laptop was dead for almost 3 years but i think its because of the water that got into the keyboard. Does this procedure still work even though its dead 3 years and the water problem keyboard?
I’ve had an ASUS L510MA laptop for about 2.5 years now, so it is out of warranty. In the last few months the battery would not charge past 58%, then it was depleting slowly, and the laptop would not power on if just on the battery. It would still power on and function just fine with the adapter plugged in. I ran a battery diagnostic tool and figured out it was the battery, so eventually I opened it up to see what kind of battery it needs and I got an aftermarket battery with the same specs. I replaced the old battery with the new one, and now it does not turn on at all. The indicator LED does not illuminate when I plug the adapter in either. I held the power button down for 1 minute without any battery, with the new battery, with the old battery, with the charger and without the charger various times, but it still does not turn on. I checked the batteries and power adapter with a multimeter. The power adapter looks like it’s reading 17v when it should be 19, the old battery looks dead, and the new battery was around half charged. After all of this, I tried to find the CMOS battery so I can reset the bios settings, which I’ve seen referenced online. However, it looks like this laptop does not have a CMOS battery, so maybe it just uses the regular battery for that function, but Im not 100% sure. Where can I go from here?
In my experience, almost 67% of generic batteries do not work in computers :( Can you try replacing it with a brand name battery and then trying the steps seen here? ua-cam.com/video/kOBY4k2Mn_k/v-deo.html.

That’s bAttery problem bro, change it, if you are able to power it up through your adaptor.

Thanks for the video. I have my ASUS ROG G752VL to the point of removing the MOBO from the bottom of the case to try removing the CMOS battery. Hi great video thanks, I’ve taken mine apart but can’t see a CMOS battery anywhere 🤷♂️ ASUS X540n if it makes a difference do some not have one? Thanks
Not all motherboards have a CMOS battery. If yours does not, you wont be able to reset BIOS this way. Why are you trying to reset BIOS?

If BIOS does not keep the Date/Time settings you are trying to select, most likely it is losing power each time the computer turn off and the settings are being reset. I am unclear on your issue. Does your computer turn on and the screen just not work? You said you used an external monitor and it worked fine. So I assume that means your LCD or LCD Cable is bad and needs to be replaced.

Bios update through windows update set admin password which I didn't set, so I'm stuck now and don't have access to usb boot. Also my windows password doesn't work now. Asus X512D.
No, this procedure will usually not reset the password. Unfortunately at this time, I do not advise on how to bypass BIOS passwords on this channel :( Not even for the Captain of the Enterprise :(:(:(
The issue with my asus laptop is that all inputs is acting strange. Mousepad, the keyboard and even external mouse is acting strange. I've read from a support that all I need to do is reset bios. Can bios reset fix it or there is another easier way to do it?
If you can access BIOS when the computer is starting up, you can factory reset from there. You can see how to enter BIOS on an Asus computer here; ua-cam.com/video/J1ZagkSTcSI/v-deo.html
hi, thanks for the video, get my laptop on again. its weird because i keep it on all night. then i turn it of in the morning before going to work. try to on it again but got power lost somehow. dc cable ok, battery fried long time ago. remove the cmos then plug it again. it turn on. but everytime i shut down and try to turn on it didn't work. i have to remove the cmos every time. but it's seem to start normally when i click on restart. but if i click on shutdown. the laptop when dead even if i push the power button. plus there some flickering on the power led when i adjusted the power cord connector. so is it both the cmos and the connector have issue? i have to choose weather to maintain this system or buying a new pc instead because im in very low budget right now. laptop model asus x552c model 2012. i modded it to an external gpu setup.
Its hard to troubleshoot a computer with more than one thing wrong. If the battery is bad, I would replace that first and see if the problem persists.
@@PC_Monkey Hi, I'm sorry, Do you mean CMOS battery?
I'm not a English speaker
@@gabrielmieses8096 I think he is referring to the main computer batter. Not the CMOS battery.
Hello sir every time I switch on my laptop it shows my boot loop and on your other video I did fix date and time like you said but it keeps on doing the same thing and some of my keyboard buttons are not working but they look pretty fine. Will this work?
Assuming you have an Asus computer, you would follow this video to address the 'boot loop' situation; ua-cam.com/video/J1ZagkSTcSI/v-deo.html
If several keys are not working, you would follow this video; ua-cam.com/video/wqrchfpdJ_w/v-deo.html
If the keys that arent working prevent you from those videos, you may need to use an external keyboard.
I have a Dell laptop do you do the same and are all the parts in the same place as yours?
I think my problem is the power button, how do I replace it?
The parts will be in slightly different places in every model laptop. However, they should all be arranged in basically the same way. Are you trying this BIOS Reset because your computer wont turn on? Have you tried the first troubleshooting step for that problem already?
@@PC_Monkey have already tried the other rule out processes and still no power.

Hi guys thanks for videos I am trying to fix a non powering Lenovo ThinkPad t530. I have disconnected the internal bios battery reconnected and powered back on (via charger) I received a checksum bios error and was advised to press esc or F1. Neither option did anything I powered off and now I am unable to even reach that stage again. Bit unsure of next steps any help appreciated massively thanks in advance
If your computer does not start, have you tried the steps in this video?
For a Checksum error, reference this video; studio.ua-cam.com/users/videoLl1Z9krDcjQ/comments
However, if you have a Lenovo, the Function Key may be different.

Hey I have an Asus G73SW-BST6 and I just replaced the nVidia 460m gpu because it wouldn't boot up and I just finished installed it and I noticed the cmos battery was missing, could that be why it wont boot up? Looks like the case that held it in was broke when I got it
Yes, the CMOS Battery is usually needed to keep the base system, BIOS, running. You would need that to power BIOS.
@@PC_Monkey thanks for your help! When I hit the power button the CPU fan comes on and then a few seconds later the gpu fan comes on but the the screen stays black likes it's off

Hi I tried to do the bios rest and took out the comos battery as explained. What has happened after reconnecting everything is that my HDD light at the bottom (next to charging light) is blinking along with my keyboard backlight. The screen is still off. Please could you help or point me in the right direction. Thank you

Hey! I Really wish to do this but I’m not confident myself to do this! Freezing issue and running mouse is my issue! Is there anything that can help me out?! Please🥺
You computer freezes on startup or while the computer is in use?
What do you mean, 'running mouse'?
Hi! I have a ASUS X540SA.
The battery doesn't charge. Few months ago I notice that my laptop start to not charge the battery. Furthure more from ~80% percentage it dropped to 0% battery in around 5-4 months. I used my laptop daily, noticing how the percentage decreased everyday.
If I leave the laptop overnight it decreased more. But when leave it plug the decrease stopped.
The charger is working I didn't notice anything wrong with it.
What's is worrying me is the sound that my hard drive is making when I shut down or put the laptop into sleep.
After I plug in the laptop, is turning on by it self. And after two seconds the hard drive is making that sound again. Like is shutting down. And after few second it starts to boot.
I opened my laptop but I didn't see any CMOS battery. I am planning to replace my hard drive with an SSD. But if I don't fix this problem, I think it will affect the SSD Do you have tips that I can try ?
Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced. As far as the HDD sound, it could be on its way out. Replacing it may not be a bad idea.
Thank you for great work we appreciate. My Asus keyboard is malfunctioning.
Coffee spilt on my pc. I switched off the power removed the keyboard and dried the pc using a tissue paper and also dried on mild sun in the morning. I fix the keyboard again and everything is fine except most of the keys aren't working. The touch pad and cursor are working normally. keying some letters they display a different letter or a number others on keying them they don't display anything what could be the problem?
To troubleshoot keys not working, refer to this video; ua-cam.com/video/wqrchfpdJ_w/v-deo.html
However, if a liquid spill is likely playing a factor, most likely the keyboard will need to be replaced. Hopefully, there is no liquid damage to any other components
@@PC_Monkey thank you so much for your reply.
If ribbon cables connecting the keyboard to the motherboard are wrongly inserted what will be the result of that?
