- Laurie Perez reports from Northridge, where two bodies were found inside of what firefighters called a "human-dug cave" near train tracks on Sunday.
Changing the name from homeless to unhoused doesn't disguise what it is. Let's all refuse to adopt the new word.

Why is this a problem for you? Changing the name may not change the situation but "unhoused" lends a little more dignity to an undignified situation and what it is, is a travesty of epic proportions! Makes me wonder what other, no longer acceptable, slurs or insulting names you might miss being able to bandy about. Let me guess, you have a problem using pronouns too.

This incident was off Parthenia between Lindley and Reseda. The railroad right-of-way in this area is a huge encampment that spills over into adjacent residential areas and some portion of the population really like to dig in the dirt and build. The grade separation underpass became what we locals called "Parthenia Hills" with structures built into the slope. Drug emporium, weekly stabbings and broken vehicles are strewn around. The most visible part of this was cleared last year, but it's a whack-a-mole game because the problem just moves and pops up elsewhere nearby. The part that the news reports seem to be omitting is that this incident was just over the fence from the former Northridge Skateland... the building that was converted into the "Trebek Center" as a homeless shelter. So yes, this was within yelling distance of a homeless shelter which has basically just become a gathering point for the part of the population that partake of their services and the greater population that just hangs out with them in the area and prowls the neighborhood. Utter failure in government. Take the time to learn how Los Angeles funnels tax money into a slew of "non-profit" organizations without coordination or effectiveness mandates. They're non-profit because they exist to pass tax money into the pockets of the well-connected leaders of these organization who are, of course, on the payroll but distanced from the already ineffective oversight that City employees work under.

The number one contributing cause is drug addiction, and that is a choice people make. That’s the truth, so stop trying to compare rape to people who live on the streets. This is sad because it reflects a failure of our society. We should take better care of each other. There are people that have more than their share and there are people that don't have any.

They are giving housing but not to Americans l know because I have family members going homeless and they are not getting the help now the border jumpers are moving in to these rooms ! With their families in Hollywood and they are getting More money and more help than the American people their 309 food stamps and medical and 300 a month cash is what Americans get now they had a program let them get a room in a house but the program only house them for a while but now the program is overwhelming with the non citizens they are kicking the American people out and replacing them with the border jumpers 😢 !! I know that for a fact !!! Why 🤔 because they are getting so much money per month and food stamps than the American people !! They live better than you 😮 !! They buy new cars and have much more than you have people some are buying homes ! I been trying for 30 years I am a cancer patient and now I am 71 and can't get to senior low housing because they are getting that also !!!

Digging shelters into embankments is a common thing for the homeless to do. I have personally seen people digging into the emergency river levees in a city along the Columbia river in Oregon.

How can you help people whose behavior is intolerable to be around?? They refuse to act right in any way, and probably had at one time many family trying to help them. But they do this to themselves, and I don't believe there is any answers for these people. People can only take so much before you give up on them, and remove them from your life. My cousin is about to be one of them on the street if she continues to treat our family the way that she does. Lying, stealing, it's all part of what they end up doing to people who care. And it's all our fault she'll say... sigh.... we tried.
