You don't notice the weight. It's not that heavy in the grand scheme of things. It's mostly the same bike as the older KLR300. The weight comes from new exhaust, e-start and EFI parts. The bike runs much better than the old carb 300. It's like the old 300 with pumper carburetor.
Hey there Tanner. Great video! The Kawi sounded very smooth for a 4-T. Unlike you, I have a 28" inseam. Bought a Beta xtrainer & I had to lower it lol. I do love the bike and wonder if you have tried one?
I'm hoping they finally start making bigger dual sports, I'd love to see a 400 idc if they used the same engines as the older 400ex etc.. I love the drz400 but fact that it's carb and 5 speed kills it for me.. and I don't want a high maintenance 450 bike or a steel framed 650.. my perfect bike would be aluminum frame and 400ish cc engine 6 speed and fuel injection.. I'm a bigger rider so these small cc bikes aren't suited for me..
See I was looking at the new klx 300s but I went to go sit on one and I realized I was a tad to short being only 15 so I might grow more but I instead got the 230r and I’m satisfied with that
I bought the KLX300R before I saw this video and I love the bike. Thanks for the video. I'm new to it so what did you mean by running "lean". I got the blue pipe quickly.
Do you guys realize that this bike came out in 2009. With upside down forks, with electric start, with fuel gauge, and that year has hand guards. Kawasaki just discontinued it due to slow sales. It was called KLX 250. I have to give you they did add fuel injection and 50cc. The bike hasn’t changed the frame suspension, or motor in 10-15 years.
Looking at the size of this Robert Bush guy, I personally think he blew the seal. I know for a fact that the KLX 300’s stock suspension is not set for a man of that stature. I’m not body shaming, nor is that my intention, but I am, however, stating the obvious.
Thinking about one of these for me and the 230r for my 14 year old. The last time I rode a real dirt bike was my 2000 KX250 back in the early 2000’s. Went with a friend today to ride some TIGHT two track and some single track. Really rocky stuff with some smooth dirt between the rocky sections. He let me use his Yamaha WR450. With a Rekluse clutch and left hand rear brake, it was quite fun. And she’s definitely all there. I’m a heavy guy at about 250 pounds. How do you all think the 300 would do for me. And the 230 for my son. He’s about 5’8” and 155 pounds.
Just wish one of the Japanese companies would make a 300-350cc EFI dual sport! But I’d still like to see you test out a WR250R and get your thoughts on it
I have a 1996 KLX (already 25yo) and I love the bike. I have ridden other newer bikes and I have never been faster on another bike even on a WR400. (Most of the riding I do is tight trails and hard Enduro) I think Kawasaki had a really good bike when it came out. All this bike needs is a flat seat stiffer suspension and a flywheel cover that doesn't stick out so much. The engine is a bit underpowered compared to a new bike but other than in the open it is a great bike. I have ridden some hard Enduro and I came mid pack on a 25yo bike. It put many newer bikes to shame. My friends keep asking me when I am going to get a new bike and I am not sure I would be better on a new one. About 2000 I bought a new WR400 and I am still riding the old KLX.
I’m going to get back in to riding after a 10 plus year break. Used to two stroke 250’s, do you think I would find this too tame or boring. I had a XR250 back in the day and wasn’t a fan
Good review. The best thing about the bike is the fact it's not as hi strung as the more hard core bikes so the engine will last a lot longer without needing attention. To me that's the point of riding. To ride and not be working on them all the time.
I agree to this point. The manufacturers are finally giving weekend warriors what they want. We dont all go to race events to ride, I ride on my (not mx) track at my house 9x out of 10.
I have the 230 r and I love it. Very similar to this one but a slightly lower seat height and it is air cooled. I prefer air cooled. Just a little more reliable.
I just got off of UA-cam looking at the KLX 300R. I numerous videos and to my surprise! 2 different people had leaking fork seals on their brand new Kawasaki KLX 300R. Hmmm...I think the bike might have a factory part issue??
I'm actually saving up for the klx 300r but I don't know if its worth for ridding in my town trails cause my first bike was crf 230 4 stroke and I had ride a 250 2 stroke
Hell Tanner you have owned every other dualsport why not try out the klx 300 i have a 2019 250 and love it my woods bike is a kdx and its funny but they are so similar i sometimes look for the choke on my 2019 klx thats fuel injected lol lol
It's actually a small part of the wiring harness. Kawasaki has a micro switch on the clutch lever/perch so that the electric starter can engage when the clutch lever is pulled. This way on the trails if you stall you can pull the clutch and hit the e-start without having to go back to neutral.
@@endurox1481 Thank you for your reply. New upgrades I added new ASV C6 pro clutch and brake shorty levels and dust covers. Love how it feels now. And yes I needed to remove the starter lockout on the clutch lever side. After talking with ASV there is no real need to have it, it was designed not to start your bike if it was in gear. So that wasn't a problem with me because I always leave my bike in gear so im use to pulling in my clutch lever. Also added new ODI EMIG PRO V2 Lock-On Off-Road Grip, and a Ricochet skid plate. That's all I will do for now.. Thanks again for some insight. Ride hard and be safe. God Bless you and your girl. One last thing if you can do, I like to see some more videos on the KLX300R if you can. You guys are awesome Thanks. 🇺🇲🤙🏼
How would this compare to a KDX 220R? I had a 2004 KDX 220R, it was the best trail bike I ever rode. The KDX 220R are pretty hard to come by these days, I think everyone holds on to them.
@@AdventureDaily Imagine Kawi resurrecting the two stroke and offering both from the factory. Never happen, but I can dream. If Kawi offered the 300R model with a head/tail/brake light combo I would buy one. Super easy to register where I live by simply adding one mirror and a horn. Way easier than making a 300 dual sport more dirt worthy.
I've been riding for 40 years. Raced mx nearly all of my life. Cased a million times, bottomed out hard a million times, NEVER ONCE BLEW A FORK SEAL. Riding in clay and getting mud on the stanchion tubes , and if it dries hard, it dries like cement, this WILL cut fork seals. The other thing that ruins forks seals is not using a block between the fender and tire when strapping the bike down to trailer or truck it home. My first clue about the mud, is the rear fender was covered in clay. Blame the clay, not Tanner
Is there any examples of the “block” you speak of ? New to dirtbikes but picking this same bike up tomorrow, just wanna make sure I strap it down correctly..
I’m 17 and never ridden a bike before. Thinking of getting the KLX 140G. Would you recommend a different bike or is that a good bike to start with? Was planning on using it for trail riding and hill climbs. Since I’m new I figured a lighter bike would be better. Thoughts?
@@davidlewis3744 Yeah, basically. I mean, I started and learned in one day but, I started on a 110 w/ no clutch. Rode that for a few hours. No previous dirtbike experience. Then they put me on a KX450.. Rode that for about 30min. Very slow lol. Then I bought the KLX and have been riding it ever since. I still have it and I still ride it every other day. Actually just bought a Power Commander for it and a new exhaust. I love the bike. I can answer any question / doubt you may have about it.. Just let me know.
How would you compare this bike to the YZ250FX? I know they are in 2 different categories, but wondering how close the 300R is? I wouldn't be racing, just fast trail riding, moderate jumps, etc. I'd love a KTM 250 or 300XC, but no KTM dealer with a few hundred miles. Thanks!
now that they have a street legal 300 i wanna see how they compare. just from a quick look the street legal one is $500 more in canada and its 20 pounds heavier.
Hey tanner, I know this isn’t street legal but how does this compare to your new CRF300l? I’m debating on these 2 bikes for light trails/desert riding here in AZ. I know they’re both 300cc but is the Honda a bit more tame since she’s a dual sport? haven’t test rode either but I currently rode a ktm 390 adv
Around 2:35 maybe tanner caught a rock and just didn't notice? I have a couple of friends that ride very fast, and the last thing I would ever say to them before taking any of my bikes for a rip would be "ride it like you ride"....
Bought 2 of these bikes for my son and I last year. Sold them within a month. They are turds and weigh 280+. Fine if you want to ride on a flat straight road. After riding these, Honda’s, Yamahas, and others we bought the Husqvarna TE300i and TE250i. The more we ride them the more we love them. Every time I get on another Japanese bike I can’t wait to get back on mine. They perform so phenomenal. I wasn’t excited about the higher expense but now that we’ve been on them this season I won’t ever go back.
Welllllll, if we want to be sticklers Yamaha has been making the wr250f for a while now, and they make the yz250fx. Honda was making the crf250x which was much more performance oriented than the crf250f and they are now making the crf250rx which is basically a slightly changed crf250r. But in my experience all Japanese manufacturers except suzuki (but who are we kidding, suzuki is a joke anyways) have been making trail bikes within the last decade. What the people really want though is a remake of the kdx200. Please kawasaki, please!!
If that short rip blew the seals maybe it isn’t the right bike for Tilly lol, at least not without different springs. After watching Spurgeon Dunbar from RevZilla put one of these through its paces, it seems unlikely a short ride like that would cause those problems.
I have a 2005 klx 250 after 91000kms I have done my first ever top end rebuild and put a 330cc big bore kit and pumper carburetor bike is 100% better now, there is a guy on adventure rider that has covered 130,000kms on a 351cc big bore kit which proves the longevity of going big bore kit, I think Kawasaki have taken a step backwards with there new 300R extra weight and not for dual sport full registration purpose! Kawasaki really need to come up with a klx350 dual sport, I think in today's current market you are far better off shopping around for a good used klx250 dual sport and putting a big bore kit on it, cheaper/better/more practical! This new 300r just does not make sense! What was Kawasaki thinking?
I have a question for this bike when you shift into 1st is it like a Yamaha where to go you have to slowly release the clutch and throttle? I just would like to know if that is the same
I'd love to have a TE300i. So damned expensive for something that I would abuse though. I just can't justify the cost for something that I'd be scratching up every weekend. Maybe some day. Congrats on landing an amazing machine.
BTW I asked about tuning this to fatten up the F/A mixture and was told by two different tuning companies that on this model Kawasaki decided to integrate the AIT sensor with several other sensors in the throttle housing. That said they can’t isolate the AIT signal and can’t tune this model. I wish my SCT tuning software I use in cars would allow me to rewrite the fuel air tables on this bike.

@@Model192 well he has his reason's we will never know. But what I know which is a fact the klx300r is the way to go. Better engine, better suspension and faster.
i was really close to getting the klx300r for cheap but i waited too long and it sold. i was always concerned with how heavy it was on paper but i liked the idea of a low maintenance 4 stroke. id like to see a 2021 version thats the same bike with a weight reduction. maybe 230-240lbs would be perfect
You don't notice the weight. It's not that heavy in the grand scheme of things. It's mostly the same bike as the older KLR300. The weight comes from new exhaust, e-start and EFI parts. The bike runs much better than the old carb 300. It's like the old 300 with pumper carburetor.
Get one ! They rip & are awesome.
Hey man love the videos. Is this Wayne national in ohio? If so what trail system? Me and my buddy ride bear creek alot and need new trails. Tia
And I don't want a high dollar ktm or similar want a suzuki, kawa, or honda
We can only hope! The closest thing is the CRF300L but it is still a turd.
Great vid! Just picked one up!! This video helped me pull the trigger! Where was this at?
I bought one last Saturday and am buying another today, great bike
See I was looking at the new klx 300s but I went to go sit on one and I realized I was a tad to short being only 15 so I might grow more but I instead got the 230r and I’m satisfied with that
Thanks for the review. I’m trying to decide between a CRF250R, this, a used KDX200, or a used CRF250X. Starting to lean the Kawi300 way after this.
Get the KDX. I've had a KLX and a KDX and the KDX is much more reliable and much much faster
Dude literally said " hey man, feel free to ride it like you ride your own." then has the balls to blame you for a common fork problem? sheesh.
where did he blame him for the leak?
I bought the KLX300R before I saw this video and I love the bike. Thanks for the video. I'm new to it so what did you mean by running "lean". I got the blue pipe quickly.
I ride a Yamaha right now but I've never had a problem with green if you know what I mean.that bike looks sick👍
A 1994 klx is the same thing without efi
Looking at the size of this Robert Bush guy, I personally think he blew the seal. I know for a fact that the KLX 300’s stock suspension is not set for a man of that stature. I’m not body shaming, nor is that my intention, but I am, however, stating the obvious.
I beat the shit out of mine and am 200 lbs fast older rider, through gnarly whoops and all…it does great and have had zero issues
I’m 17 about 18 and just got a 300r it’s a amazing bike
I didnt see the guy blaming him for the forks. Did they cut that part out?
Great video.... I'm actually looking at getting one for my 2nd bike. 👍👍👍
Just wish one of the Japanese companies would make a 300-350cc EFI dual sport!
But I’d still like to see you test out a WR250R and get your thoughts on it
Drz400
KLX-300 street legal version, and SM version, CRF-300L and Rally version
Wish Kawasaki would make one dual sport ready. Love the bike
I WILL BUY ONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, NICE VIDEO MAN
Looks like you got blamed for something you didn’t do
I have a 1996 KLX (already 25yo) and I love the bike. I have ridden other newer bikes and I have never been faster on another bike even on a WR400. (Most of the riding I do is tight trails and hard Enduro)
I think Kawasaki had a really good bike when it came out.
Bro! is that an 06 KDX sitting behind you? Really wish Kawi would bring them back.
You are correct! Amazing machines.
If you take the spark protector out it sounds like a whole different beast it changes the sound completely and it is amazing
How you do it
It has more power than most riders professional or casual riders for weekend ride !
If the pro need more mod it ?
Share please !
It’s a shame Honda didn’t take their xr400 motor bad put it in a mx frame would of made a great bike
I’m going to get back in to riding after a 10 plus year break. Used to two stroke 250’s, do you think I would find this too tame or boring. I had a XR250 back in the day and wasn’t a fan
I want to see you test the 2021 Honda XR400R. Where's that bike?
There is none
Please test drive a KLX300. Thinking about getting one. Thanks Jeff
I hope they make a dual sport version
Wow, you handled this guy's ridiculous accusations very well. Kudos man.. It's funny he even said "feel free to ride it like you ride"
So how would you compare it to the CRF250F. These are the two I’m looking at.
I think here in colombia it is a little expensive and dificult to see in a kawasaki store , I wanna buy this bike is amazing. Thanks for this video.
Wayne's a great place to ride! I love going to long ridge and over at Perry state Forrest also. My wife my son and I go when we can.
I was looking at these bikes and they seem nice I would love to try one
I have the 230 r and I love it. Very similar to this one but a slightly lower seat height and it is air cooled. I prefer air cooled. Just a little more reliable.
I can’t find that dudes post y’all keep talking about!
I would get one of these. I had a 1999 klx300r and I loved the power delivery. I am not a racer lol.
Wonder if the 300 since it's liquid cooled with no fan would overheat like the MX bikes in slow trails.
I just got off of UA-cam looking at the KLX 300R. I numerous videos and to my surprise! 2 different people had leaking fork seals on their brand new Kawasaki KLX 300R. Hmmm...I think the bike might have a factory part issue??
So would this be a good starter then
I'm actually saving up for the klx 300r but I don't know if its worth for ridding in my town trails cause my first bike was crf 230 4 stroke and I had ride a 250 2 stroke
I sold my bike. Would you buy this bike or a 250 FX? I would like to get your input. Great channel.
Jean Boilard idk 250 probably it weighs 292 unless ur anal about maintenance then buy this
What Bob said, the 300r would be less maintenance but both are great options.
That oncoming rider was a small stone away from a head on. Wow!
what rear fender is he using, seems longer then normal? i bought an kx fender and it does not fit
Im geting one really soon can't wate!
Why are all Kawasakis 4-stroke these days? The last 2-stroke was the 2008 model I think?
Hell Tanner you have owned every other dualsport why not try out the klx 300 i have a 2019 250 and love it my woods bike is a kdx and its funny but they are so similar i sometimes look for the choke on my 2019 klx thats fuel injected lol lol
Great bike !! I just have one question on the clutch lever I see two cables i know one is the clutch the cable but what is the other one next to it ?
I would rather be on a KDX due to the lighter weight and better lugging but they are like comparing apples to oranges.
Thoughts?
hey man i’m sorry this is late but i’d definitely reccomend a crf150r or an 85 2 Stroke
Ttr230 or crf250f
Just got one. I love 2 strokes but let's give this a try.
2020 KLX 300R owner, trying to upgrade to either the YZ250FX or the KTX 350XCF... I'm 5'11 + 220 pounds, thinking the 350 is the way to go..
Did you start on the 300r? I have a few years of street experience but I want a dirt bike and am looking hard at the 300r
Thanks!
I see a KDX 200 in the background
Arkona Boys nice you copied a comment whoooooo
Arkona Boys nice you copied a comment whoooooo
Best dual sport ever
shenaniganz krew 22 I personally like the 220 better but I like them all! -hashtag moto on the boys channel!
now that they have a street legal 300 i wanna see how they compare. just from a quick look the street legal one is $500 more in canada and its 20 pounds heavier.
Just go for a crf50f. I wouldn’t recommend it to any beginner because of its shear power, but for someone like yourself it should be great.
Kawi makes a street legal version.
Just got one love it
How did it compare to the 300L ? I think it would smoke the CRF250F with it's really low compression etc.
It was closer than I thought! I would the KLX makes a better dirt bike though and that's what it is.
You say it's running lean, does it have the stock air filter?
Around 2:35 maybe tanner caught a rock and just didn't notice? I have a couple of friends that ride very fast, and the last thing I would ever say to them before taking any of my bikes for a rip would be "ride it like you ride"....
Looks awesome!
Got a new 2020 kawasaki klx300r and 2 months into owning it.... Water pump went out. Wow new bike from the dealer. Not a happy 1st time bike owner
Cool story bro. 2 completely different price markets for the bikes your comparing.
Would the klx300r be a lateral move from my wr250r? I never have my wr on road and was thinking an off road only bike may be better.
thanks robert!
Would have been great to see some slow tight trail riding
I had an older KLX and it had modern suspension for the time and a head light
I just would like to know if that is the same
Went to the shop to buy one of these....walked out with a TE300i
I'd love to have a TE300i. So damned expensive for something that I would abuse though. I just can't justify the cost for something that I'd be scratching up every weekend. Maybe some day. Congrats on landing an amazing machine.
Good choice!👍🏻
Nice. But it's kinda like saying you went in for a 35000 Mustang and left with a 70000 Corvette.
You made the right choice man 💪🏼. Husky nation!
Would you recommend this over the crf250f but if you were wanting to go to a bigger bike
Second that question.
Sweet bike id like to see what up grades would make. Cool
