1972 Gadsby's Tavern Museum Deed Signing

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of American Legion Post 24 deeding Gadsby's Tavern Museum to the City of Alexandria, we would like to share some vintage video footage from the deed signing ceremony on August 11, 1972. Stay groovy!
In 1927 American Legion Post 24 purchased and preserved the two structures now known as Gadsby's Tavern Museum. The legion had been seeking a permanent home as well as a way to honor the veterans of World War I. They operated the buildings as a museum until giving the buildings to the City, who continues to operate the museum today. Post 24 has a permanent home in the 19th century addition to the buildings.
