It’s cool because every vid you make about this type of thing it reminds me that FAB is made by people who have learned from their predecessors. And I personally believe they’re the only ones to do it better than anyone else has
Everyone always compares FaB to MTG, but we often forget Yugioh is also a popular game that influences FaB as well. What, no, I didn't switch to FaB from Yugioh. You have to actually play Yugioh to be considered a Yugioh player... (I miss old-school Yugioh sometimes)
My favourite hand trap is ALS-- But for real, this is an incredible video! I hadn't thought about how they're like hand traps, but you're absolutely right!! Hopefully we get some more interesting effects like this!
Great video man. Did not know about yugioh hand traps, do see a good comparison to the fab mechanic if the instant effect on cards. Good breakdown too on the differences between gameplay. Cheers!
1:40 warmongers is literally dimensional barrier which is a hard counter to decks that want to play an attack and non attack action and is insanely overpriced just saying
D barrier is a lot stronger basically being 1 sided since you can drop it on your opponents turn. They do both have the same level of non interaction which is bad
I think ripple away prevents any tokens from being created even if Florian is turned on. There’s no event for the ability to trigger off. Similar to amp on a spell doing zero damage.
No, it looks like you can get the tokens with rule 6.5 on replacement effects. The turn player gets to choose which player applies their effects first, then apply them. So a Ripple Away discarded on an opponent's turn allows that opponent to designate who starts applying their effects. If they choose to screw themselves over, then yes 0 tokens.
Most Hand Traps in Yu Gi Oh are fine because they kinda have a niche, only a few like ash blossom and Maxx C are so wide that they warp the game around whether or not you have them in the hand
I really dislike hand traps from my brief time in yugioh more than a decade ago. I get it that JW is a yugioh guy, but man, I hope they stay incredible niche.
Handtraps are so necessary for how fast yugioh is. I neither hate nor love handtraps. Its just part of that game. Its just like counterspells in magic. It lets designers go crazy because you can always counter the crazy power cards. I think generic instants need to be carefully balanced to be specific. A good generic instant that is good into 55%+ of the heros sounds toxic
The difference being, you need open mana to use Counterspell in MTG, while in YGO you just discard it without any resources used example "Herald of Orange Light" has another discard cost which makes it a bit more fair while Ash Blossom is just discard and negate so it's one for one
My one hesitation regarding hand traps, and instants in general, is that I don't want FaB to get a "counterspell deck" like in MtG. I don't find them fun to play against at all.
They may not be "fun", but they are very important for game health. A deck that can counter opponents effects is the way you prevent the game from devolving into Zen: kill you from 30, the game. The way to do that is either not print powercreep, which they've already shown that they don't want to do, since MST is ToA2.0, or print traps.
We play FnB the same day as yugioh 2 times a month at my LGS and 75% of the games are over turn 1 and seem boring as hell lol the other 2 weeks of the month we play the same time as One Piece and that seems to be much better of a game. But god i love Fnb coming from Magic then Pokemon then SWU then to FnB right when heavy hitters dropped. loving it ever since
I use to play and love Yugioh but now I don’t like it. The gameplay is too complicated with lack of interaction. They made the handtrap so u can interact on your opponents first turn setup. If u don’t turn the game is finished.
Sloop video released, dropped my baby to watch
As a former ygo player, i appreciate this content that compares the two games (especially if ya get to talk shit on how trash konami is 😈)
I have a lot of fun making these types of videos, honestly. Its cool to look at similarities/differences between games
Only for that alone I subscribed.
It’s cool because every vid you make about this type of thing it reminds me that FAB is made by people who have learned from their predecessors. And I personally believe they’re the only ones to do it better than anyone else has
Appreciate the effort you put into every video.
Thank you my friend 🙏 hope you and the family are well!

I just pray they don't become as "do or die" as YuGiOh.
Also, thank you!

Thanks Bronson! Glad you found it interesting

saying that everybody hates handtraps is an exaggeration, but nice video.

Loved by no one and hated by everyone - it is exactly this
Speak for yourself handtraps are probably my favorite aspect of modern yugioh
Why not mention cards like Null // Shock, Aetherize, Blizzard, or Poison the Well?
Because they are cards that are played to do the thing they are designed to do. Handtraps are similar but different.
Most Hand Traps in Yu Gi Oh are fine because they kinda have a niche, only a few like ash blossom and Maxx C are so wide that they warp the game around whether or not you have them in the hand
Albeit ash blossom is okay it's just the fact that the rest of the meta is so strong that stopping one single turn is usually gg

I’m very new to the game. For these instant discard effects, do you still have to pay the resource cost?
Nope just discard it
@@natedavis5567 oh wow. It really is just like a hand trap. Hope they make a mechanist one. (Gotta get one for my boy Maxx “THE HYPE”
Why this video reminds me of a famous match between Jessica R vs Joo Ho 🤣
My one hesitation regarding hand traps, and instants in general, is that I don't want FaB to get a "counterspell deck" like in MtG. I don't find them fun to play against at all.
I feel like Nuu is almost a counterspell deck because she's always just ripping your cards away 😅
They may not be "fun", but they are very important for game health.

Looks at Ripple Away

Great video. But let’s come up with our own lingo & not use Yugioh’s 😂
