I actually (almost) skipped Waveform Free thinking that (just from the name) it would be severely lacking without "expansion". THANK YOU for this review, definitely makes it worth downloading to eval. I've recently switched from Windows to Linux Studio and using Ardour (also very nice free DAW). Again, thank you sir!
I haven't had much luck with Tracktion....the first time I tried Waveform(was about 1.5 years ago) & it was buggy. Four days ago, I discovered that Tracktion has a standalone VST version of Collective & I love the synths in it. I bought it for $10 via AudioDeluxe's sale...but spent 4 days trying to load the f**king factory presets and despite all I've tried & all the help via Tracktion's support, it was awash. Collective is buggy as AF...but hell...when you pay just $10...you have to expect a train wreck(you get what yo u pay for.) So...I moved on & considered Waveform again(as it is the only way to gain access to a working version of Collective(of course though, that means spending another $150 on Waveform Pro, just to get the damn Collective plugin within this DAW.) I then decided to demo the free version of Waveform(looks very impressive for freeware)....but I cannot get a midi signal from my Arturia Keylab Essential 88(despite Waveform's auto-setup, as this DAW does recognize my midi controller.) I began toying around with the midi settings(disabling & enabling this, that & the other thing)...but nothing worked. Perhaps I am at fault...as I am brand new to version 12(but the Collective VST is not my damn fault)...& if Tracktion cannot help me with the Collective VST...how can I rely on them to help me with Waveform 12? Once you start upgrading, things get really expensive...really quick. So can anyone give me one good reason why I should NOT avoid this DAW? I really like it...but I am really fed up & really sketchy about the whole thing.
@@HighlandStudio91 I use waveform and a keylab essential. Gimme a holler if you want to know how to setup your keyboard. Not home now, but I got it to work.
There is also a OEM version I got free with a mixer. It includes the DAW essentials pack and nocks 50 bucks off the upgrade to pro if you want to upgrade. For me it is my first DAW so I am overwhelmed for the moment.
I looked at about 9 free DAWs, only Waveform and Cakewalk had no restrictions. So I concluded, Cakewalk for Windows and Waveform for MacOS, Linux and Windows. Everything else was a waste of time.
Downloded and tried the free version.. As also a studio one user, I found its work flow very opposite and frustrating..there are very few shortcuts and the fx routing process is Confusing..the GUI is pretty similar to ableton but noting works like it.. Lol..
I have been messing with the free version for about a month now. I do like it, but because my hand disabilities severely limits my keyboard playing, I would be needing the chord features of the pro version which also has some other nice features locked off in the free version. They are the same app/download. Purchasing pro unlocks the additional features from the free version. The pro is $150 and will probably go on sale again for black friday. It was just on sale for halloween (40%) but I didn't jump on it cause I am still seriously considering Logic Pro as I am M1 iMac. It's $199 and comes with a lot more instruments.
Hello sir, I have a small trouble in waveform 12: I am afraid that I accidentally changed few presets inside of 4OSC plugin and then I saved the changes. Please help me to reset the presets to their initial style.
A bit of a funky solution, but you could install it on another computer and copy that preset or have someone else do it on their computer and then just uninstall it.
i tried this daw and give up with the aux/buses method they use, the interface is nice, the shortcuts keyboard seem quite bothersome to learn, the BPM only max up to 200 which mean there’s a limitation for EDM producers like in rawstyle genre im not sure why or maybe there’s a button i didn’t see, in piano roll itd be nice if they add a scale fold button, again maybe there is the UI it self is kinda confusing
Waveform is the best free daw and it's too easy to start working in the production industry... the paid one to start is fl studio just cuz it got free update a lot ppl who start producing get bored quickly so it's fine to take time and come back later...
Nice track mate! I like very much the idea of Waveform but haven't dared to get into it because I am in search of a film composing DAW pro level. By the way have you tried Digital Performer? Super powerful BUT it is the very living definition of NOT USER FRIEDLY SHIT at all! 😂😂 hence my comment given you mentioned this is not user friendly... anyway. Keept it up!
Yes, you can transpose MIDI and Audio files. Click on the file and the settings are in the inspector or actions window

You're very welcome. 🙏 Good to hear this was useful to you!
Which linux distribution you're using for audio production?
Ubuntu Studio, is an awesome low-latency OS with a ton of included production apps.@@SupercyMusic

Waveform is a great daw. Too bad most people avoided but man I wish more people use waveform
Who knows, in the future people may start noticing it.

You also can use Reaper, even when the evaluation is over.
Have you tried soundbridge?

Great Video! i think Waveform's layout design is a bit to get used to. Cakewalk next maybe ?
Thanks, Felipe 👍
Cakewalk is definitely on my to-do list 😉

What decision did you end up making?
Very happy with Logic Pro.
@@RoyLouden Awesome. I’ve been using Logic Pro for 10 years. Very happy with it as well!
Can you record multi track using 2 usb mic?
Sf2 files works on studio one..
