Thanks for the great video, superb touchdown! Beautiful new airport, very fitting it's named after the brave astronaut, nice tribute to their achievements that they sadly lost their life for.
@EL Sky High Yes, the main body of Columbia broke up over central Texas. If you ever saw news footage of bright burning bits of Columbia streaking down from the sky, that was generally the view from Dallas. Rest in peace. You might be surprised, as an American, I'm also aware of Ilan's duty defending against the reactor. A great man. A tragic loss.
I think that Walter Raleigh put it quite well when he said "The engine is the heart of an airplane, but the pilot is its soul." Beautifully done! Love the approach. Bless you and stay safe.🌹💝🌹
Captain Boeing flew across my phone with a great new video. The scenery during the approach was just beautiful. Enjoyed the taxi up to the buildings. I’m going to go research Ilan and Asaf to learn more about them,. So nice to honor them this way.
Captain Boeing - You are very welcome. The strange thing for me is 2-3 days ago in my research I came across a photo of Ilan Ramon in full Astronaut suit and read he was the first Israeli Astronaut. It was just the photo and nothing else so I’m happy to know a little bit more about him. I wondered where he trained and what happened to him. I’ll know by the end of today. Really more than a great video, it was educational too.
Captain Boeing - The story of Ilan Ramon is absolutely inspiring and crushingly tragic. I had no idea he was on the Columbia. I well remember the day of re-entry. What a great family was his. Ilan’s wife is inspirational herself, losing her husband and her eldest son, Assaf, the top cadet in his class, on a training flight. I don’t know how she was ever able to stop crying. I’m having a hard time now.
Ilan Ramon died in 2003 in the Columbia shuttle disaster. His son, Assaf, died in 2009 while in a F-16A fighter jet during a routine training flight. So there would not have been any recent news coverage in America. Hope that is what you were asking.
It has been many years since I was in Eilat. I didn't know that they built a new airport. Are they closing the old airport in downtown Eilat and the Ovda Airport? What kind of fence is that on the "left hand side" of the runway, it's huge?
The fence is to block missiles from hitting the planes. The area on the lefthand side of the runway is Jordan. So in theory terrorists could fire missiles, like antitank missiles, from Jordan. So they built a very tall fence to block those. I think it's the tallest fence in the world so far.
Beautiful new airport! I’ve flown to Eilat, but only the old airport. I’ve also flown into Sde Dov, both airports gone now. Very sad about the Ramon Family, too much tragedy.
אחי, בטח התכוונת על הכיפק, יאללה לבריאות. well done captain, beautiful new airport. it's great that throw your video people want to know more about Ramon family and their sacrifice.

A wonderful tribute to Ilan & Asaf Ramon! I was in Dallas that fateful morning in 2003 and witnessed Ilan's star fall from the sky.
