  • Meet local treasure and legend Jerry Weber as he shares insight, with his laugh-at-life humor, into his 42 years in the business. We discuss how he got the famous artist R. Crumb to do artwork for his brand, why he sold 700,000 records to a broker in Germany and why shoppers have always been able walk out of his store with an arm full of records without breaking the bank. "Thank you Jerry for your time, the interview, your hospitality and most of all sharing your story with the vinyl community." -Corey

    What a peach of a guy! He loves what he does and that shines through. It was interesting to hear how the online component of the business - the auctions - is critical to the store being able to continue to operate at the price points he wants to sell at. Great video, Corey ... Jerry's smile says it all.
    Cheers! Tom

    My friend and me used to spend hours in the Princeton record exchange in Princeton NJ, they used to have all records until CDs came along then little by little they had more and more CDs, soon the records were being overtaken but it was still a fun time, I don't know if they're still there, you know you scored big when you came out with more than one of their yellow record bags full up.

    I love Jerry's. I live, maybe 30 minutes from there. I loved to go in and trade records for more records. I have two boxes of 45's marked "go to Jerry's" on the box... and then a friend of mine says, Jerry's isn't dealing with 45's any longer. SAY WHAT? I'll have to trot over there myself and see if that's true or not. I've gotten so many great records from Jerry's. It truly is one of the few, shining things, in Pittsburgh.

    • @CoreysChannel
      @CoreysChannel  7 років тому +1

      I'd fill my house with records if I lived that close to Jerry's! I saw 45s around the shop and bought a handful so I think they will still buy them. From what I understand the main focus shifted to LPs and he sold all the 45s from the back of the shop to make room. Glad I had the video of the shelves of 45s from 3 years ago!

      SO glad to serve up the first RSAA video of the year with an interview from Jerry. I had a lot of encouragement from Audrey as well. We went two days, one to dig (I got a stack) and one for the interview and store shots. You can tell the store is going through a transition with the basement clearing out and reorganization but the space where the 45s were already had walls of vinyl but a lot easier to look through. It's still all curated nicely as well. With an endorsement like 'favorite in the world' I'm glad I could do it justice Greeno!

    Corey...outstanding! I had bid on several of his auctions two or three years back. I didn't win anything but after watching this, it's great to have some context behind the store and Jerry. To be quite honest I am happy the guys in Berlin landed the 45s. At least they will find their way out. The guy from Third Man, while being a well known 45 collector, has always come across as a bit of a leech and I'm a bit suspect on the space claim. That's just my opinion anyway.

      Can you believe I landed this interview? So much has to go right and I was thrilled to spend some time with Jerry while the cameras were rolling. That's a good point about the 45s going to Berlin, to your point they will see a lot more exposure beyond local customers or occasional tourist. Glad I found the footage of the 45s from a few years ago as well. Regarding the space being the deal breaker...Jerry did send the measurements. Thanks Paul!

    Wish I had the chance to meet Jerry. He reminds me of the land of homeless toys, but instead it's records. I really need to check this place out next time I'm in the burgh. I've heard so much about it So Jerry's doesn't sell cds? Just curious.

    When I was really into vinyl I used to be the first guy through the door every Saturday at Jerry’s it got to the point I’d show up a little early and he would let me in but if anyone was behind me he would tell them it’s not 10 you got 5 more minutes to wait lol I haven’t been there since jerry retired

    Great, if you have one close to where I'm interested in to, then I'll buy.
    Like at Sacramento, California. You could take place to what was both TOWER RECORDS & DIMPLE RECORDS.
    They've both RETIRED, so we have NO WHERE to shop.
    Check these places as WE need them!!!
