    I bought every 45 available from the album back then. Beat up every one of them. Bought them again and have kept them in mint condition. The Ojays of the 60's were excellent.

    This is a video of the Ojays when they lived in Los Angeles and recorded their first notable songs like Lipstick Traces, Lonely Drifter, Crack Up Laughing, Stand Tall, etc. There were five of them then. HB Barnum produced their early tunes. I loved his arrangements. My favorite was I'll Always Love You....

      That was a great album. It took me years to find a copy. Lonely Drifter with the waves crashing was my favorite and Crack Up Laughing. I guess you had to be from Cleveland to be hip to the original Ojays!

      That was *WALTER* that sang that part. *WALTER* was the O'Jays' Baritone/Bass singer ...although he's singing LEAD on THIS SONG. He had incredible range !! Listen to The O'Jays' song "DON'T CALL ME BROTHER" from their "SHOP AHOY" album, and you'll see just how low WALT can go !!

  • @williamg2552
    @williamg2552 7 років тому +3

    Eddie and Walter could have seen to it that both Bill and Sammy were inducted. Nothing wrong with that. But they never forgave him for leaving the group. Bobby Massey protested this decision, but was voted down by Eddie and Walter. So the inducted members of the group were: Eddie, Walter, William Powell, Bobby Massey, and Sammy Strain .

  • @williamg2552
    @williamg2552 7 років тому +6

    Eddie and Walter gave Bill Isles the shaft. They saw to it that he was not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the rest of The original O'Jays . He sang with the group for the first seven years of their existence, just like the other four. But Eddie and Walter let Sammy Strain get inducted in Bill's place. This made Sammy a double inductee into the Hall of Fame, with the O'Jays , and the Imperials. But, it left Bill isles out in the cold.

    • @laminage
      @laminage 7 років тому +2

      It happens. Remember when Prince was Inducted and not The Revolution or even The New Power Generation. In 1987 Smokey Robinson was inducted but not The Miracles including Marv Tarplin the "Sixth" Miracle who you may have seen in The Rock 'N Roll Movie The T.A.M.I. Show.

    • @williamg2552
      @williamg2552 7 років тому +4

      True. But the rest of The Original Miracles eventually WERE inducted in 2012...and Marv Tarplin was inducted WITH them.
      2012 Miracles inductees: Bobby Rogers, Warren "Pete" Moore,Ronnie Whi te, Claudette Rogers Robinson, and Marvin Tarplin.

    • @williamg2552
      @williamg2552 7 років тому +3

      James Brown was inducted in 1986, but his original singing group, The Famous Flames, Bobby Byrd, Bobby Bennett, Lloyd Stallworth, and Johnny Terry, were also inducted in 2012.
      Of the two groups you mentioned, that were associated with Prince, NPG and The Revolution, neither were with Prince when he first began his career...which is why Billy Griffin wasn't inducted with the Miracles.
      In most cases ,The R&R HoF focuses on original members only, unless certain replacement members had a big impact, such as Dennis Edwards did with The Temptations.
      But Bill Isles was an original member of the O'Jays, and was on several national hits in the group's early days, such as "Lipstick Traces", "Lonely Drifter", and "Stand In For Love" .

      Always thought it was very cool that Bobby Massey not only was included , but even got some time to speak..
      Early members have a way of being left out.
      I thought it was awesome to see the Dells bring the daughters of the original lead singer ( who died a decade earlier and left the group in 1960) on stage with them to accept his award when they were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
