I remember when it was 5 of the O'Jays and they came to Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Milwaukee Theater in 1966 or 1967 and they sung " Stand in for Love." They were fantastic and the girls went crazy. I was one of them. Good good memories of house parties in the basement with this song playing...thanks for allowing me hear this song once again and cherish the fun times when I was a teenager...

A wonderful piece of Music. I was playing guitar for some boys called the "Drells" from Wheatley high school, in Houston and I had just graduated. The lead singer just drafted, heading to Germany we had been in a local studio and had recorded several songs with Skipper Lee Frazier; the group had begun to drift apart at this point. We all loved this song and these guys. I did not know that one day I would be sitting in the same studio in Philly on S. Broad Street talking to Eddie and others on that label. In those days, WILLIAM POWELL was a featured lead singer in the group just like EDDIE & WALTER were .I remember he & THE O'JAYS sang their early hit "Working On Your Case" on JERRY G.'S TV SHOW on Cleveland's KYW-TV (later WKYC). Jerry G eventually moved to SAN DIEGO.

Previous recordings Lonely Drifter , Lipstick Traces, Crackup Laughing, How Does It Feel was before the Stand in for Love. It was members during does early years. I went to school with several friends that were neighbors with Eddie and Walter and they recited many stories when they were called The Mascots, Loved always seeing The O'Jays and a few occasions to go backstage!

This all the other early O'Jays recordings were smashes in Cleveland, Ohio. You're hearing five O'Jays singing: Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, Bill Isles, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles. They cut a live version on this song at Leo's Casino at a show I attended.
This was a long song on a 45 back in those days. Excellent!
In Cleveland late 50s they were called the "futuretones".

No.....there were FIVE O'Jays at the time this song was recorded. The 5 original members were: EDDIE LEVERT, WALTER WILLIAMS, BILL ISLES, BOBBY MASSEY, and WILLIAM POWELL.
This is their first hit. I was a junior in high school. This is Ohio's third black group after the Mills Brothers and the Isley Brothers. Dayton still has the most R & B groups ever in the state.

yes this is one of the best up against the wall and sweating end of the evening songs, and i don't understand why they never put it on any of their laster albums even on the essential o'jays cd they have it live which is great , but just didn't have the favor of the original 45, thank guy, been looking for it for a long time,.
This song is from 1961 not 1966! On the flipside was "Lonely Drifter". I bought in the summer. Also bought "A little bit of soap " at the same time.
Charles Perry-Kelly ~ I thought this sounded earlier than ‘66 ! I think ‘61 sounds right. Kinda hard to hear Walter or Eddie. Wonder if Eddie was on lead? It’s kinda hard to tell, as I haven’t heard this since the early 70’s ! Man what a CLASSIC ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
wrong. the was during time of other songs i.e. No Time for you, I Dig Your Act, I Miss You, A Blowing Wind and many more. Previous recordings Lonely Drifter , Lipstick Traces, Crackup Laughing, How Does It Feel was before the Stand in for Love. It was members during does early years. I went to school with several friends that were neighbors with Eddie and Walter and they recited many stories when they were called The Mascots, Loved always seeing The O'Jays and a few occasions to go backstage!

Cleveland was the only place to be, The Music Box, The Alhambra Theater, Skate Land. Pay parties, turn on the blue light all on the walls and lets get the stinky finger.
