- Very underrated soul singer who was the queen of Hi records when Al Green was king. There are plenty of great soul records about cheating but not many to match this one from 1971.
I got no where to turn. I'm tired of being alone. I feel like breaking up somebody's home. SHE SANG THAT!! I FELT IT
I toured for 40 years as a blues singer. I used to sing this song......Ann Peebles, Irma Thomas, Denise LaSalle, Memphis Minnie....the world needs to know these talents
Had to screen shot these names and now I will go find their music. Thanks
"Got no where to turn, tied of being alone, I feel like breaking up somebody's home" Damn!!
I'd say this woman was a strong contender for the "Queen of Soul" title.
Oh yes ma’am she was! Mine was Class of ‘72. She was so such an unappreciated talent.
5 seconds in and hooked!
I have not heard this since i was a child. I stumbled on it at work, it cut me to the soul. This is pure unadulterated soul!!!!
young people this what you call good music, take notes.
Your Preaching to the Deaf
Nothing will change current trends. Soul, blues, jazz, folk and genuine country music are cult items for small, dwindling audiences.
Ms Ann Peebles was a bad ass lady in her days of singing the blues. She have yet to be reconized for her iconic sound. She was and still is the bomb with her music.
I see that three (3) people have given this song a "thumbs down." How the hell can anyone not love this song?
Ikr!!!!!!!!!!!
I Love her voice. It reminds me of the great Ladies soul Singers of my youth. The 1960s And 1970s.I remember the song. I Can't stand the Rain. But I did not know that she was the Original singer/song writer also with her Co-writers.she has a really great voice. 👍

Ann rocks in a very soulful way.
Straight outta South Memphis!
Great song, what a strong performer. I didn't know about this version, thank you for posting it.
Masterpiece. Nuff said.
I got an album from her, called "original funk soul sister." Damn straight.
Well, if anybody in '72 could break up somebody's home it would have been the steamy Ann Peebles who delivered this classic Memphis soul gem and the following year cemented her reputation with two classics, the much covered and sampled I Can't Stand the Rain and I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down.
Peebles originally came from St Louis and sang gospel as a child but found her feet in Memphis as a hot 19-year old recording on Hi Records which put her in studio with Al Green producer Willie Mitchell. She was the only solo female artist on the label and her first single -- Walk Away in '69 -- went to 22 on the r'n'b charts.
Hi was just a mile away from the more famous Stax, had its own in-house rhythm section and Mitchell with his organist brother James arranged the slick horns.
You can certainly feel a steamy, sultry sexuality here and just in case you don't she spells it as she oozes into the lyrics: "Lying round home alone on a rainy night like this, starving for your love, hungry for just one kiss. Every rain drop I hear against my window pane beats so loud and clear, words that spell your name. I got nowhere to turn, tired of being alone. I feel like breaking up somebody's home . . . "
And we get the picture.
Yes, indeed ! HORNS! [ 5x!!!!!]

I don't know who made these song first if it's a remake or what but her version is the most soulful.
Love it!!!
So she is the one Albert King learned the song from. Underrated indeed; Ann Peebles is as hard and bluesy as it gets.
Oh that’s so good!
I am discovering Ann Peebles late in my life but how good it is. The sound quality on this one is exceptionally good for UA-cam. Just great!
Looked for this original forever
Thx!!!
Lyin' around home alone
On a rainy night like this.
Starvin' for your love,
Hungry for just one kiss.
Every rain drop I hear
Against my window pane
Beatin' so loud and clear,
Words that spells your name.
I got nowhere to turn
Now that you have gone,
And I feel like
Breaking up somebody's home.
I know it's useless
Hangin' on when you belong to someone else.
I can't shake my feelin'
'Cos, after all, I didn't make my bed.
Last night I cried so hard
I believe I caught a chill.
Can't control the vibrations,
My heart just won't stand still.
Got nowhere to turn
Tired of bein' alone,
And I feel like
Breaking up somebody's home.
Got nowhere to turn
Tired of bein' alone,
And I feel like
Breaking up somebody's home.
Robert, boy...... You are killing me!
Just a knockout. Etta does a great version too!

This song was on an Alligator Chicago blues compilation that I picked up in the early/mid 90s.
I don't know when the compilation was published but I'll be damned if Alligator doesn't have that specific compilation anymore.
Had Ann singing this song,
Bobby Rush - Chicken Heads
Son Seals - Your Love is Like Cancer
Koko Taylor - Hey Bartender
Luther Allison - Luther's Blues
Roomful of Blues - Duke's Blues
Oh man... a bunch of other amazing electric Chicago blues songs. It was my introduction to that music and I loved every song on that compilation but I can't for the life of me find it anywhere.
Anyone know the one I'm talking about? I've emailed Alligator and they couldn't help me but I KNOW it was an Alligator compilation. Got it on CD and the CD had a brownish collage of some sort for the cover.
Ooooh that is a oldie
Always in The Agency's set.Albert King does a mean version as well.
Love Albert King
this my shit.
I need some wine to. These.. classic...
Kinda reminds me of a young Aretha Franklin!
Too Cool
I think that the funniest part about her is that Most people in St. Louis didn't know that She's from St. Louis.
She is nice.....
i like ann peebles too,
She's married to the lyricist of some of her cleverest songs.
go Albert King...yeah
Went to a gig last night where Jo Harman did a brilliant version of this number ! Check her out.

John Rudolph Don't worry, they all come back when they realize their grass would have been as green as the other side of they had fertilized it. Just make sure that you say : Too late, I wanted you then don't need you now!
