Cheat the AI! How to win the race in Mafia on classic by breaking the AI

- After trying many times to win fairly on Classic Difficulty, I decided to try something different. I picked the tight chicane turn and tried to cause a mass pile up, which end up breaking the AI and I could easily complete the rest of the race with no competition. It took all three laps but eventually all the other racers got stuck or blown up. Sweet victory!

I was enjoying being a mafioso until this race ruined my experience, was about to quit the game forever until I found your video. Thanks for thinking out of the box, this really helps those of us who are not good at racing games.
It’s quite easy to beat once you learn how to use the ram button, it helps you to make more rapid turns and fasten your car. You just have to ram through everybody on the 1st two turns and take the lead so the latter part is a walk in a park since your opponents, I think, don’t actually rubber band like in nfs games.
I love racing games and never beat this mission. I think it's just bad, all around.

Bro it literally took me just 2 days where i picked up the game for an hour each and u got through it and even found it enjoyable and fun, its not so bad that you'd have to quit the game over it
@@nousername2942 skill issue buddy, through trial and error its very easy to learn beat this. I know its not the same but how do you guys beat elden ring bosses then almost give up on a game because of one racing minigame lol
This method indeed works, but its not as easy as it looks. Took me a few tries to get cars in one pile crashed. And then raced 3 laps and on final lap I was 1st. Many times I got the pile but the cars just didnt stay, still easier than to win legit. This is hands down the worst mission in videogame history.
Every time I try this, I’ll get them stuck, and I’ll wait like 2-3 minutes to see if they move and when they don’t I’ll start doing my laps, but once I start driving to do my laps they get unstuck. Any advice or tips?
Update, I finally got it. And it took almost 2 weeks to do this! But I’m glad the hard part is over and I finally got this game platinum 🙌
Yeah you’re right. This method does still work (I did it last night), it is easily one of the most poorly designed missions I’ve ever seen in a game and it will take several attempts.

Every time I get to the final lap like literally before I’m about to finish one car always gets loose and beats me it’s driving me insane

OMFG, I actually did this first time, this way today Wednesday the 14th of August 2024.
I'm shite at driving in games, especially with the added pressure of coming in 1st place, theres no way I could have done this legit.

@@Cody_-ub4kl yeah I was really really thinking I couldn't replicate what the video showed but was amazed I actually did.
When I put my car across the track and blocked a few in, they did try to wriggle free, but I just gently blocked their exit and they kinda gave up. Maybe it was the other drivers ploughing in to them, I dunno.
Dont give up man, if I can do it then anyone can.
Ridiculous that this race is tied to story progression in the first place, Forza or GT it fuckin Isn't.
@@Cody_-ub4klit takes a couple of tries, but eventually works. The catch is when the cars are piled together, they are getting damaged. Eventually, the cars breakdown permanently.
I swear, this race is the most annoying thing in the entire game. When I started the game I was like "wow lets make this game realistic as it can be" classic mode with manual transmission. It all went good until this chapter. After like the 10th try, I turned the game to easy difficulty and turned on Auto Transmission.

You can also change the difficulty of the game before a mission starts. I played this game on like normal or hard but when I couldn't finish this mission in about 2 days of trying, I changed the difficulty to easy 😂 I know it's very lame but oh my God my rage during those 2 days...
After completing half lap or more there is a short cut to victory line it is the easiest way to win . Search in UA-cam

Skill issue
April 2024, still works.
Some quick tips that took me a few tries to understand:
1. watch for cars that roll over, but more importantly, cars that ‘break down’ apparently due to the crash. This breaking down is indicated by black-ish smoke (not the lighter grey though). Also, they wont be moving, another indication they’re broken. You want both flipped cars and broken down cars in the front and sideways. Help them a little if you need to. Let the rest of them go and pile up behind the flipped and broken down cars.
2. if a few cars do make it out after you, do not worry. You can let two of them crash in automated sequences in the 3rd corner in the back (first lap you drive ‘together’) and the last banked corner (second lap you drive ‘together’. Do make sure they are in front and in sight of you though!
Lastly, I have the disk version ps4 and did not install any patches before trying this.

@@Macie-Jay77 Line your car up in the middle of the sharp turn, next to the dirt mound that makes you fly if you hit it at full speed. It'll take a couple attempts, but you need to make one or two of the cars wreck so bad they flip over. That'll cause the buildup to form and after 4 or 5 minutes, you can begin to drive the 3 laps. Just go super, super slow as you pass the pileup as to not "free" any of the trapped cars. You can tell that the top 3 drivers are stuck in the pileup if the yellow, black, and white icons are on the map as you pass the traffic jam. It took me maybe 4 or 5 attempts, but it was worth it because I spent 4 hours trying to win legit and failed every time.
@@JamieDouthit it's driving me crazy...max 1 car tops down and they never stay stuck for long...I drive away while no one can get out and as soon as I arrive at the pile...the most of them are gone
@@samuelraica3542 Same, trying for an hour already. Once, I had someone flip over and cause a pile up but by the time I did a lap, all the cars, except for the flipped one, were gone.
Edit: This happened 3 times now.

Still works as of 22/09/24. Took me AGES to get the right position but managed to get there in the end. Couldn’t have done it without this video.
The trick is getting one of the cars to flip over then use it to help you make a roadblock on the next lap. Some of the ai completely bug out and stop driving too it’s kinda just keep trying till you get it
Yeah this comment is bang on. As somebody that won the race on classic difficulty last night using this method I can 100% confirm this is what you should be aiming for.
Try and get a couple of cars to flip over or land on their sides, then block off the rest of the road with your car, the AI won’t ever be able to move.
P.S. don’t worry if you end up letting several cars through to achieve this. As long as you build your pile up properly it doesn’t matter.

I beat this race on the original Mafia on PC and tbh, it was one of my fave missions (but I'm a car racing fan).
This is pretty hilarious though - love Tommy's cheeky smile and salute to the crowd after 'winning' the race 😂
Me, too. I love racing games and I love the original Mafia (I haven't played the remake). I always felt the race track was very well designed and perfectly fit the era of the game. I beat the race on my first try and it wasn't until much later I realized many people had problems with it.
Me 2 man. It was 2009 when i told my friend bout it he didnt belvie so i went to his house just to beat this mission on his pc for him. After that he said "well i could exepct that from maniac who plays racing games at lest 3h a day"haha. Great times.
Right? One of my fav mission turns out to be the pain in the ass for everyone else. So weird.
Same story goes with 'Driver' and the underground parking at the beginning of the game. Never understood why so many people didn't get through it
I beat it after enermous amount of tries because it played at 5 fps or so. Oh my potato laptop back in 2003 😂😂.
People really had patient for low fps back then.
This mission does not deserve the hate it got. It added to the realism of Mafia games, I had problem with this on OG Mafia also. But i was also used to NFS driving. When remake came, I had practiced on more pro racing games so cleared it I guess on my 3rd try.

This took a few attempts (maybe 20) as getting the cars stuck can be a little random but I can confirm it works! It bloody works! 🎉

I gave up on this game like a month ago right after buying it, and thankfully to reading the comments the key is to get one flip and use it to block the path of the racers to pile them up.

Still works i managed to get them all stuck there and rammed into some of them (the one in front of me and a few on the side) then once they are all stuck behind the broken cars i started to complete the race (a yellow car broke out successfully but he was scripted to crash) then when i made it back there to the car pile up idk how something exploded and they all were inactive so i just drove on and completed the race (I saved the footage it was over 20 minutes did it on ps5)
For those who don’t want to cheese it, the race is actually surprisingly easy even on harder difficulties. Basic racing logic is pretty much just:
1. If you’re approaching a turn, move to the opposite side of the track. For a left hand turn, you want to start as far right as you can be.
2. Brake in a straight line then get on the throttle once you’ve slowed down enough. It isn’t necessarily the fastest method in real cars but it’ll work well enough for the game
Do those two things and you’ll beat the race pretty easily. Maybe not on your first attempt, but it won’t take too long

Watching the cars attempt to logic the jam is funny its truly a realy basic ai and can do some crazy shit like perfect j turns if it communicated between cars this wouldnt be possible makes me wonder what old racing games can be broken like this

At first, the AI eliminates all the opponents and then attempts to win the race. But there were no other opponents. Smart. This is a kinda of lesson on how the AI works ;d

While it’s fresh in my mind: if you’re not going for the trophy I’d switch to easy to have more time getting set up, switch to classic so all the cars hit each other harder in the pile up (and saves time). If a car or 2 squeeze through that’s okay, just switch back to easy to lap them and win 👍🏻

edit: i won! my tips is, when u already pile all the cars, press r2 n l2 at the same time it will stop the cars from moving. don't press only r2 bcs u will push the car back and they will hv space to run. it took me 1hr to figure this out ✨

I didn't find it impossible to win the race in the original game. Hard, but not impossible. Just cut some corners, but don't crash!
