If you want, have a look at the behind the scenes of this video. Obviously, both his skills and the camerawork are enhanced by one another and create a great video.
I agree with your sentiment about his freedom of expression. In a way it feels like if he wound up in a big company like SM, he'd not be allowed this much freedom, like writing his own song in falling down and showing off his contemporary art performances, especially being a foreign member. Pledis is far from being a good company, especially in terms of treatment of their girl groups and also boy groups in a way, but i guess seventeen got lucky with pledis since it doesnt restrain them and of course pledis got massively lucky with seventeen because they have so much creativity and enthusiasm in their artistic expression
we might cuss so much about pledis but on the good side, they have given pretty good freedom to seventeen. they provide us with such amazing content. no company's gonna be perfect so let's just appreciate what we are getting.
@@MrsNiaboo2000 No one is saying SM is forcing their artists to perform certain songs (well not in all cases), I know that they consider their artists' opinion in choosing concepts/songs. However idols under SM are not allowed to put in as much creative input into their songs/albums (not allowed to compose/produce songs, choreograph dances, prepare sets, etc.., I know some of their idols do write their own lyrics). Its not at all a bad thing, if you can utilize many talented and experienced producers/songwriters/creative directors then of course you should, SM is doing excellent job with their groups (f(x)'s and red velvet's discographies are actually my favorites in all of kpop). For seventeen, there was no powerful/resourseful company to back them up, self producing and creative input from members was out of necessity rather than privilege or for some "bragging rights". They had to depend on themselves if they wanted to succeed, otherwise they'd flop after debut. I feel like this aspect of creative input from seventeen into their music and overall concept now that they're established is due to leniency of the company, as in "as long as they bring in money they can do whatever they want", not their "vision" or whatever. Who knows if theyd be even more successful under SM. It's kinda a tradeoff - seventeen have a lot of creative input, but there was no guarantee they'll succeed, they could've easily flopped and stayed nugu, and vice versa, under SM idols might not have as much creative input, but they're 99,99% guaranteed to succeed (I mean, maybe except for Trax and The grace), no one under SM has flopped for the past ~15 years.
@@MrsNiaboo2000 Also it's important to note - all the artists under SM you mentioned are already established and prolonged their contracts at least once, they've also debuted solo or in subunits. Since they're older and have already negotiated their contracts, they can dictate more conditions of their own, I mean if SM wants to have them, which they clearly do. For Baekhyun and Sehun/Chanyeol, they have sizeable fandoms, I'm sure as long as song is pleasant to ear they'll sell out large amounts of albums. For Lay, well he's basically only promoting in China, is very popular there (as other ex-EXO members) making HELLA money there for SM, so of course they let him do whatever he wants. Taemin is even more experienced than Exo members and his album sales have been going up, so his success is clearly not suffering from his input (also Taemin is an exceptional soloist imo, even Lee Soo Man called him the diamond of the company, or something like that). Minghao, unlike aforementioned idols, has not debuted solo, it's not a digital release, I doubt he's making money for the company with his contemporary art series. If you'd like to compare Minghao to an SM idol, I think the best comparison would be WinWin from NCT 127. Both have been active for 4/5 years, which means they are yet to negotiate their contracts. Both are Chinese (it is relevant in this discussion since foreign members are more likely to be neglected). Both aren't the centers or most popular members of their groups (actually I dont know who would be center in seventeen lol). If you think about it, how much freedom have SM given to WinWin? Or better yet, has his line distribution/treatment gotten better over the years? The line/center distributions were bad for Minghao in the beginning too, but it's gotten much better in the last 2-3 years. I guess that's one more disadvantage of being under such company as SM, you'll be successful but your treatment might not be the best.
I feel like he wasn’t supposed to come across as human in this piece. That’s why the speed ramps in the editing are there where they are. I also love the overall colour palette of this as well. Oh, and the costume design, don’t even get me started on that. It was MADE for this piece. It’s so perfect. The way it prolongs each movement almost echoing the movements he does with his body. The way is seems to have no clear end or beginning, the way it was set up in layers.... I just. Wow. Mad props to the person who made that.
This wasn't just a choreography, this was a piece of art. There is a slightly hidden meaning for those who care to interpret it and you can tell it has beginning, middle and ending as a piece. I'm glad that he keeps putting out this type of content, you don't need to be well-aquanted with arts to find this beautiful.

I can't even express how much I love everything about this. Colors, moves, music, scenery, clothing, even the name of the video, it's just really well put together and cohesive and creative, but also very Minghao/The8. When he said he had multiple possibilities ahead of him, he wasn't kidding. Also, super agree. As much as people complain about Pledis, they always gave space and support for Seventeen to do whatever they want to - covers, side projects, everything. So many idols out there have so much artistic potential and just never reach it because of limits imposed by their own company! So I value Pledis for this. Because of this, each member was allowed to grow in their own way, showing what they wanted to show, conveying their own feelings, their passion and art. I'm grateful that they can always be themselves as well as Seventeen members.

I mean... he does martial arts, also b-boy dancer and does contemporary dance too, so yeah. you should see his martial arts moves , the flow is..... amazing.
I felt that if you looked at his previous song, how 'trapped' he was in the light like a bird (and his hand motions there), that echoed when he 'emerged' in this song, into a much broader place. It was like escaping, to my mind. I'm not sure which specific move it was, but it looked like one of the freezes that you get in breakdancing?
To be like him we need to learn chinese martial arts, breakdance, pop dance & contemporary dance and that still doesn't guarantee us becoming like him 😭 Anyway, good video as always Jeff! 👍

I'm always speechless watching Minghao perform. Also, you should react to Ha Sungwoon's new song Forbidden Island. The dance practice is really cool, and the song is great too.
I was waiting for this and you never disappoints! What Hao's doing with his contemporary art is just beautiful, but it becomes even more if I can understand better like with your explanations 🥰 Ps. I can't recall if you reviewed his doddle? Is contemporary dance with a Billie Eilish' song. I think he did way before than Fallin' Down. And also his mentoring on the Youth with You! I saw what you did with Lisa and I think you would enjoy it too 😌
thank you for react this video, you should also see dino's danceology, this is dino's personal project, he choreographs some songs, and he just uploaded his newest video, you should check it out
I could be wrong but some of the moves he does here kind of reminds me of martial arts too, since he did do martial arts when he was younger and it’d make sense if he did try to incorporate some of that here

Because of this, each member was allowed to grow in their own way, showing what they wanted to show, conveying their own feelings, their passion and art. I'm grateful that they can always be themselves as well as Seventeen members.

I don’t usually comment to any videos but I just would like to say that I love how your video layout changes, it’s really pleasing. Thank you!
Every single one of his solo pieces tell a story, he is the literal definition of artist and you can see how he gives his 100% in all of his projects. If you want to see more of their individual styles/works i'd recommend dino's danceologies and their solo songs too!!
ha yay I'm early!! I literally loved this video and i really love the8. The way he expressed things through dancing in his video was extremely amazing and beautiful. The8's dancing is really beautiful and he's very talented. Please react to we lost the summer by txt when you have time.
When I watched The8's Contempo Video I just stare at the screen for a few minutes not breathing unconsciously until he did that handstand, and then I go Whoooo!!! This is so mesmerizing!!!

Been waiting for Jeff to react to this and it’s finally here!! Still getting goosebumps everytime I watch this!!

I saw how you reacted to Lisa being a mentor, in case you didn’t know minghao was also a mentor for the same survival show but boys version. (Youth with you season 1) you don’t have to react to it but I think you should check it out ^^
thank you for reacting to the8!!!
I mean... he does martial arts, also b-boy dancer and does contemporary dance too, so yeah. you should see his martial arts moves , the flow is..... amazing.
Jeff on The8 « what a dancer! ». Enough said.
To be like him we need to learn chinese martial arts, breakdance, pop dance & contemporary dance and that still doesn't guarantee us becoming like him 😭
Anyway, good video as always Jeff! 👍
never been this early before haha
thank you for the reaction!!
Thank you for your reaction ♥️

Jeff being a mood 2:53 3:55
I could be wrong but some of the moves he does here kind of reminds me of martial arts too, since he did do martial arts when he was younger and it’d make sense if he did try to incorporate some of that here
Hi Jeff. Please also react to SEVENTEEN Dino's danceologies ❤
Love u Jeff💙
