Enterprise Refit: The Helm (or Conn)

- More beauty shots of the helm I created for my Enterprise bridge (Wrath of Khan version). This was all made in Blender and Photoshop.
Commonly referred to as "the helm" this bridge position was actually two; the navigation and helm stations were combined on a single console known as the conn. This featured the controls required for interstellar flight, navigation, and combat. Conn operations were shared by two officers: the helmsman, who sat on the captain's left, and the navigator, who sat on the captain's right. The duties of the helmsman included piloting the ship and management of the warp and impulse engines. The navigator was responsible for plotting and updating the ship's course and making warp speed and trajectory calculations. The two officers shared responsibility for tactical operations.

Very well done. I love the timeframe of the Star Trek movies between TOS and TNG. The uniforms and the ships. Miranda, Oberth, Constitution and Excelsior being the new class. It was aweaome.
@@Gotchism4Life same. It was the best era.
I can hear that Wrath of Khan theme in my head while watching this. Very nice.
I love this so much. This is the most detailed version of this helm. well, ever. Bravo.
@@MusicHandsAbrupt thank you!
Gotta love the look of the roll/pitch/yaw controls. Super obvious what they are meant to do - and at the same time (like so many things in lot of Star Trek UI designs) suber cumbersome to use for any actual data input.
WHERE'S THE OVERRIDE? THE OVERRIDE! LOL Again wonderful work!!! I miss the accelerator stick Sulu had in STTMP.
@@hornet718 same. Not sure I agree with the change they did and turned it into a stick for the thrusters.
I was looking for that handle too. Maybe in the 4K remaster? 😉
@@robertdelisi9473 I may just bring the throttle back because I can. 🤣 look at me, I am the captain now!
That was exactly what I was looking for - the override! Even after a couple minutes of browsing, I still couldn't find it. Welp... looks like i"m not fit to be on Khan's crew!
This is beautifully done! A personal favorite next to the Star Trek 6 bridge .
Awesome work.
Murdock: "What do all these blinking lights do?"
Soldier: Those lights are blinking out of sequence.
Murdock: Make them blink in sequence.
@@jsldj 🤣🤣
beautiful work!
Absolutely magnificent! Well done!!
This is so cool!
I do not believe that I have ever seen anything quite like this
@@KevinMurphy-kk6yz music to my ears sit back and buckle up!
So sick!!!! Awesome!!!!👍🤘🤘
Needs the button labels. I must know what they do!
Really! I thought the handle was still there until TVH/TFF
I really love this a lot.
"Reliant's prefix number is 1,6,3,0,9."
With such week passwords, it’s a wonder Starfleet vessels don’t get hacked more often
Looks incredible!
One observation - where’s the big handle that Sulu used to increase the speed? Is that stem on the console where it’s supposed to be?
It was changed to a little bar that controls maneuvering thrusters for TWOK.
I prefer the TMP version with the manual throttle.
Conn=Old Naval Term. For when Ranking Officer leaves the bridge. He would tell whomever was most senior officer to take The Conn. Now if Kirk, and Spock both left the Bridge. Kirk would say "Mr Sulu. You have the Conn." Which would infer that Sulu was both in command of the bridge, and also Helm. When Captain is on the bridge. He gives the command to set course, and Helm Officer initiates that course.
Thanks. I was always too lazy to look that up. I also thought they meant Comm, for command.
Always Tuesday with these Starfleet techs.
@@tonyalongi4409 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was beginning to think no one would ever catch that.
Im sorry they removed the stick-shift after STTMP. I thought it was cool.
@@brainysmurf74 same
Take her out, Mr. Saavik!
Now, if someone would explain what each set of buttons controls I would be happy.
@@tonyscates1884 coming soon 🖖😉
@@robbetz thank you, I’m just enough of a sci-fi nerd to want to know every buttons function.
I wish I knew what all the switches did...I'm sure someone has map a switch map and function.
@@tombaker8481 me too. I do know that the accordion keyboards had one odd colored key to serve as a kind of Rosetta Stone that told the user what the other keys were.
Why is the volume so low I can barely hear anything.
The only sound is a low hum and occasional beeps. No music. Just ambient sound. I hear it.
@@robbetz The ambient sound that's what I meant. Amazing attention to detail by you. Outstanding Job.
@@Kevin_Flynn thanks!
