This was so fresh and exciting after watching JCVD and Chuck Norris movies for years. Steven Seagal's Aikido, in his early movies, inspired thousands to take up the Art. But Aikido purists around the World hated the way he portrayed O'Sensei's Aikido as so violent. Not real Aikido at all...

Steven Seagal dream became true. Him becoming a martial arts Master. I love his Aikido style
Not alot of martial arts in the movie, but this goes down as one of my most favorite.
2:02 that is actually a kukushi waza from Sepai. He was a student of Fumio Demura Shito Ryu in addition to being an Aikido practitioner.

With this film, Shihan Seagal introduced Aikido, a Japanese martial art, to the world. This is a great achievement.
DAVID MICHAEL FRANK COMPOSING and ANDREW DAVIS PRODUCING MADE **EPIC** MARTIAL ART FILMS WITH STEVEN SEAGAL CINEMATIC BRILLIANCE MISS THESE DAYS!!!
So good to grow up back then . Still have this on VHS!
This is how Seagal became a legend to Warner Bros action films in da late 80's through Exit Wounds which was his last film from the beloved studio. This movie came out after I debut in the world but watching this in da 90's was great along with his other action classics that came on HBO.
I own this movie on vhs.
i love this movie! all his other stuff, not so much
I like Under Siege. That was great too
I honestly like Fire Down Below too
Out for justice was koo
His tone and voice are perfect....
Seagal in his prime was a phenomenal movie start. Looked the part and had a certain magnetism to him. Fantastic scene.
When he was seventeen he might have been inspired to go to japan to train with the masters but steven seagals character nico inspired a generation of people to start training at local dojos across the usa
seagal and van damme have inspired so many people to change their lives for the better through martial arts, stop hating on him, stop bullying him.
I think this is the best part from all of Segal movies :)
Cool 80's music bruh
Forget his so called newer movies in which he is lazy
Above the law is my favourite Seagal movie of all time
Classic intro and STUNNING fight scenes
The first 4 movies are awesome period !😊 great job Steven
This exact same demonstration with Matsuoka was the one he used to con Warner Brothers into thinking he was some kind of actual fighter, with actual fighting abilities.
I don't care what people say about Seagal, his early films were classics.
The young Segal was great!
Seagal's best film.
0:51 that chop 🥁 🔥
What happened to Steven Seagal? This intro was so cool, the music caught you instantly..
This movie wanted me to master aikido as a kid
@GG TBrooks how did that work out for you? I have some training in JKD /Fillipino systems and even did some stunts i still find this one of the best intros of an action movie , stay tuned for my posts keep training and be safe >> CHEERS mate!
What a highly promising star Seagal was when he began acting! Unfortunately, if Nico was a real person, he would possibly feel ashamed of Seagal's evolution as time passed.
MeganTHEEEEEE GREATEST movie opening ever!!! It really encapsulated & defined his perceived mystique (speaking fluent Japanese was such a flex too). Unfortunately, over the last few years he's completely shattered that mystique & aura & has become a caricature of himself
Such an irony that the opening scene of his first movie was the best thing he would ever do, it was a long painful downfall since then.
When Steven Segal calls you, stay sitting
Coolest start to a film.
Aikido is useless.
@@tacticalcrusader3709 you obviously know nothing about the "art" side of martial arts. People do not practice Aikido to learn how to fight, but as a physical and spiritual "way" to self development.
@@markformston6606 You obviously know nothing about the "martial" side of martial arts. If it's useless in a real fight then it's a waste of time.
@@tacticalcrusader3709Never,it is useful for self defence in street and helpful for body conditioning.Everything is not for Fighting.
@@arindambanerjee3326 There are far more effective and proven techniques for self defense. I would rather utilize techniques that are proven against trained and highly skilled opponents.
Back in the 80s when Japan was great.
I loved this movie when I was a kid.
That first guy to take on Seagal is still in the hospital to this day.
I know it's just a movie and all that, but given Seagal's long history of telling tall tales, it's sort of cute that "the little old Japanese man" in the photos starting at 0:32 is Morihei Ueshiba (O Sensei), the founder of Aikido, who never actually set foot in the continental US.
Seagal are born in a Military US base that are in Japan his father a Veteran.
Come on wen everybody first saw this,it was like wat da fcuk, who is dis guy, wats dis martial art hes doin....
Absolute best 👌
Aikido is still one of the most sophisticated and under-rated martial arts, today... Seagal practiced it on a very combative/ martial level that was poorly understood by the masses.
Today we make fun of him for how much weight he's gained & his movies went from Good story to Bad & from Theaters to Direct to Video but let's be honest...
When we were young and fit in our prime, we still couldn't have touched Steven Seagal when he was between the age of 20 through 46. unless we had a gun. That's how damn good he was and that deserves respect.
(He was born in 1952, 1972-1998 before he got Fat)
Respect to the legend!!!!
What makes you say that? What are you basing your statement on?
Master is someome who teach good things
'Above the Law', the best biopic ever made. Also, check out the documentary that's just as good 'Hard to Kill'.
By this movie, he is born the legend of Aikido, Steven Seagal
Seagal's a bullcrap artist...but dang if these techniques dont look like they hurt...especially at 1:33.
@ When I said "bullcrap artist" I was referring to a lot of the fabricated stories he's told over the years and how he puts down every other martial artist but himself...He's a real Akido master for sure though.
This was when Seagal was normal and respected.
He was never normal, and was only respected because people didn't know what a pathological liar he was yet, or that he beat up and r@ped Kelly Lebrock
For the record this a fictional movie, people think that its steven seagals real life mixed into a movie, wrong,he was not born in sicily and didnt migrate to the U.S its all made up,hes irish, jewish and russian decent not italian🙄
