As part of our Give Hope campaign this year, MDAS hosted our Virtual Gala Live on Facebook: Caring For Our Caregivers on 18th December 2021 at 4pm. This gala is dedicated to our caregivers, to appreciate and showcase their tireless contributions in the lives of our beneficiaries.

At Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore), MDAS, our mission is to uplift the lives of people with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and help them to better integrate into society. Through our programmes and services, we seek to help them overcome isolation, enhance social and life skills, engage in vocational training and eventually play a part in contributing to society. Under this holistic development, we also strive to provide care and support not only to people with MD, but also their families and caregivers. Muscular Dystrophy is a group of genetic muscle diseases characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting which may result in severe physical disabilities. Manifesting during infancy or childhood, a majority of our members have to rely on motorized wheelchairs despite the extent of their muscle weaknesses differing. Many of our members face difficulties completing the simplest of tasks, like raising their hands in class or feeding themselves. Later in life, the condition worsens and progressively affects muscles near the heart and lungs, resulting in the need to rely on respiratory aids.
