  • Nintendo Switch Clear Case Mod vs Teardown Skin - Comparison - I've been wanting to do a clear case Nintendo Switch Mod for months and so that's what I'm doing today... plus I'll be comparing that with the Teardown skin from JerryRigEverything and dbrand. We'll compare both options at the end so you can see which look you like better.

    About This Video: In this video I'm doing a clear case mod on a Nintendo Switch which includes cutting the metal back plate down so you can see the internal components better. Some of the metal plate is needed to keep the Switch from getting too hot but a lot of it can be removed. I'll be comparing this mod with the Teardown skin designed by Zach at JerryRigEverything for dbrand.

      If the Switch is still under warranty, I would recommend the skin. Also, I am worried that the Switch might get hotter without the complete back plate. Nintendo's engineers are not stupid, the back plate is there for a reason.

    Why even keep the shield at all if you take away that much of it? The whole point of it is for the extra heat that doesn't transfer through the heatpipe to disperse evenly over the back plate. Sure it doesn't heat the whole thing up, but that small of a plate is going to make little to no difference.

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  5 років тому +3

      TronicsFix After seeing a ton of tests about GPU backplate cooling being useless, I too feel like the plate doesn’t help at all with the cooling of the Switch. Would be an interesting video to test that out with a probe on the CPU. Oh and don’t forget that even if it helps with cooling, the fan could ramp up more to make the heat pipe cools more and it would probably cancels the effect of removing the metal plate.
      I would say that the removal of the plate on the RAM could lead to crashes due to memory errors. A lot of device to use metal around RAM sticks / chips to protect it from interference. I’m pretty sure that this is the reason for the metal plate over the RAM.

    I actually like the backplate metal, I'd customize the metal backplate panel with some laser drawings in it and a clear case above it, would look amazing.

    an idea if you want to do any revisions: leave the metal plate intact where there are kinda crappy parts to look at like the battery pack and either get it laser etched/cut with a design or can use stickers!
