- In this 3rd and final assembly video, witness the culmination of hard work and innovation as my DIY CNC machine "Matilda" comes to life. Matilda boasts a substantial workspace of 1120mm x 1500mm x 180mm, seamlessly controlled by a customized grbl controller, FluidNC. Explore the tweaks and upgrades that make Matilda a reliable and efficient machine.
Here are some resources to dive deeper into the configurations and the technology used:

The heart of the control system is the meticulously designed Root Controller V3 by Root CNC (aka Pete). This controller is a perfect match for FluidNC and grbl HAL firmware, offering complete isolation and protection to the microprocessor, paving the way for a worry-free CNC experience.

I am interested in the design files as well. A CNC router ist one my 2024 projects.
Incredible looking machine. Do you mind sharing how much you paid for the aluminium plates from pcbway?
Awesome machine mate! You've done well. I think i may have to look into making this beast when you've got the design files ready :)
Love your design. Can't wait for when you make those files available.
Did that ever happen?
Where did you buy the closed loop motors
Au.stepperonline ebay!
You are right to have some fear of very fast rapid rates. I once had a Z axis failure that left the spindle down when the program called for a raising the spindle and performing a rapid mode move to the other end of a part. Well, the machine proceeded to move at 20000 mm per minute (787.4 inches per minute) and pushed the part, fixture, and clamps off the table and onto the way covers. This caused thousands of dollars in damage.
Does anyone know if the Matilda CNC CAD files been released yet? Any download links?
Beautiful work! Looks to be retail quality. nice work
I notice you run Ball screws I guess 5mm pitch and the machine looks 1200mm wide so do you have problems with Ball Screw Whip at high speeds. 'What is your max travel speed and what ball screw' while running the closed loop stepper online steppers ?
Thanks for your question! Yes I am using 1605 ball screws. I never pushed machine to absolute maximum as I really don’t need any faster then 8000mm/min. I can run the machine at 14000mm/min without a problem and no whip as I have tensioned both ends of the ball screw!
Total cost aud?
Approximately $4500-$5000 AUD depending on how cheaply you can get plates cut!
Howdy, awesome project. Glad to see it up and running. Is the root controller a stand-alone controller, or do you need a PC to stream the gcode to it?
Great question! Yes this is a stand alone control board that manages its own control and uses an Sd card to store and read gcode files without processing from another device- however you will need a device to use as a remote screen to move CNC and initiate gcode files. The board hosts its own webpage that you connect to via Wi-Fi. Additionally you can use this via USB and connect to gcode senders like traditional grbl controllers…. Best of both worlds 🤩
Hi. Could you please share your CL57T V4.1 configuration (DIP switches and rotating switch) ? Just to have an idea on how to start to set mine when it will arrive 🙂 Thanks in advance
Great to hear your going closed loop!! On the dip switches I have gone with 1600 pulse/rev
on|off|on|on
Then left mode off
|off|off|off|off
Rotary switch I used was:
For my 5A (y)motors: ‘B’
For my 4A (x,z)motors: ‘5’
Hope this makes sense?
@@NEWTechCreative Yes, thanks a lot
Discord Link Has Expired!!
I’ve updated link in description 🤩
Bringing ERGABLED to CNC!
Love it! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Pete 🤩
Every shot is so 'cinematic' that you cant see wtf is going on at all, I just want to see where/how the rails are mounted, whats the ball screw block positioning etc. etc. but I feel like im watching a teen drama series
Hmmm happy to share more detail. Hard to see how it is relatable to teen drama series, however I suppose it’s not bad 0 budget and 100% passion. Feel free to jump onto my discord and I can provide more detail.
@NEWTechCreative
what is your bed size on this beauty?
Max working area is x1040mm and y1300mm 😊👍
