How to tackle food insecurity in Canada

- Food insecurity - the inadequate or insecure access to food due to financial constraints - is monitored by Statistics Canada through the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS). Based on the most recent national estimates from 2017-2018, 4.4 million Canadians, including 1.2 million children, live in food-insecure households.
Food is not the answer to food insecurity. Despite great effort and dedication, food banks are an ineffective response to food insecurity. To solve food insecurity, we need solutions that target its underlying cause: insufficient income.
Let's channel the care and compassion demonstrated through our donations and volunteering and channel it into moving Canada away from its reliance on food charity and towards tackling this serious public health problem through income-based public policies.

So you're saying donations can't solve food insecurity, but you just listed a bunch of problems that could easily be solved by more funding. That makes no sense. What am I missing?
Food banks are a band-aid to the tumor of food insecurity. By no means am I saying that Food banks aren't doing good or helping people, but they aren't the solution to food insecurity. Even with getting more funding for bigger facilities etc. it fails to address the root cause of food insecurity, lack of access to money to be able to support a stable life.
