Agree. If the Omnipod can't keep blood sugars under control, then it is a failure as an automated insulin pump. Many of the UA-cam videos do not speak very well of the Omnipod for keeping blood sugars under control. Its worthless if it cannot do that.

I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the evolution of the Omnipod 5, and I completely agree that there is plenty of room for innovation in this field. The balance between functionality and practicality is indeed crucial, especially when considering the diverse needs of users. One important aspect I believe is worth highlighting is the significant gap in the industry when it comes to products designed specifically for children and adolescents. Given that the majority of type 1 diabetes diagnoses occur during childhood or teenage years, it would be wonderful to see the development of pumps that better align with the natural movements and needs of this stage of life-something smaller, lighter, and designed to minimize insulin waste, which is a key concern. Addressing the unique needs of this demographic would not only improve their individual experience but also foster a healthier and more practical relationship with diabetes management from an early age. It would truly be a remarkable step forward for the industry and for all of us closely involved in this journey. Once again, your analysis was insightful-it’s always great to exchange ideas on such an important topic!
Last year I did a trial of the Tandem 7 day extended wear infusion set which not on the market yet. I found that by day 4 my numbers started creeping up. By day 7 I was using 3-4 times my usual TDD and my BGs were still running higher than normal. I don't use a ton of insulin, less than 30 units a day in my pump, so it's not like I was constantly flooding the site with insulin (except after day 4 when my insulin requirements started to climb). Longer wear time may sound great and may work for some people but can bring it's own problems. I've read similar things about Medtronic's 7 day set.
First, thank you for talking about how it is now fda cleared for type 2 diabetes. I switched to it from the tslim about a month after it was cleared (almost 3 months), and I am really enjoying it. It would be nice if it had a larger chamber/reservoir, but since using a pump in the first place and adding a glp1/gip I use about half the dosage of insulin that I used to use. Also, I have poor absorption on the 3rd day, so my doctor writes the prescription for me to change every 2 days instead of 3. Other things I would like to see on the omnipod are a slightly flatter form factor, a more aggressive algorithm, and I really miss the bolus button that I had with the tslim. I really love your channel. Thanks for all you do for other techies with diabetes. 💙
Thank you for your videos. They are super insightful and helpful! As a parent of a newly diagnosed TD1 toddler, in a perfect world, I would love nothing more than to have the ability to give my child insulin with my phone especially for when he starts school. Also, a better algorithm that gives corrections would be wonderful.
My number 1 wish (credible wish) for the OP is longer wearability. Given my current needs, the current OP-5 reservoir could last me for 5 days. From you Justin, I'd like to see a video on the FDA approval process. And I still wonder if a more concentrated titer of insulin might some day be possible, allowing for smaller reservoirs, and thus longer lasting pumps and/or longer wear. Also an update on gene therapy and an interview with somebody in that area. Lastly, in terms of my own experiences, I think the CGMs need to be more reliable. I am using OP-5 on manual mode because my TIR is way better than automated. I frequently have CGM issues and inaccurate numbers and I don't think the pump and its algorithm can identify these problems like I can. I don't like the idea of a pump making decisions based on a flakey CGM. I love your videos. I am glad somebody is doing what you are doing. It's very helpful. Thanks.
Personally. I would think an exterior button to bolus on the pump itself is a little risky to accidently get pressed at any given time. Also, I am a type 1 diabetic using O5 and 200unit capacity is plenty more than i need for three days of wear time. Which brings up wear time, sure a longer wear time would be nice but isn't by any means necessary. I mean it literally takes like 5min to swap one out. I do wish Insulet would make the algorithm more aggressive in automatically treating highs. And for Insulet to be more up to date with their tech development side of things hence O5 IOS app and G7 compatibility. It seems like some of these other companies are far more aggressive in development and could lead to Insulet getting passed up by competition and consumers looking elsewhere for their pumps and needs. Overall, I do like a lot of the ideas you have in this video.
I’m definitely ready for longer wear time. I’m SO tired of changing my tandem tubing every 3…..ish days. I am disgusted with all of the alarms and having to respond to every one of them and if you don’t get rid of the one on the pump the watch and the phone keep alarming!!! Come on. No one needs that kind of aggravation. It’s counterproductive!!! Have these people not ever heard of alarm fatigue. I think you’re spot on with the competition factor. None of these companies are going to take the risk first unless we, (the community), start voicing our needs. So, if we want smaller, smarter, longer lasting devices and equipment then we need to let them know it’s important to us. T1d’s and T2d’s are really techie now and so many of us want whatever is going to simplify this awful disease as much as possible so we can simply live our lives as productively as possible without all of the side work! The side work is what we have to do just to stay alive. Sorry this is such a long comment but there it is just the same. Thanks for all you do. It’s inspiring.
In my opinion the issue with Pods that last longer and/or with more Insulin in them is the viability of the Insulin after 3 days. And I'm waiting for Insulet to implement the G7 & Omnipod app for the current iPhone.
Definately a longer wear time. A more agressive algorithm. And I agree with the alerts. Don't need the pod and the pdm screaming. Would love the death scream to be silenced much quicker. I clicked deactivate pod I don't the loud scream to continue beyond that point.
Smaller size (maybe even like a small, medium, or large based on insulin reservoir size?) and better algorithms for treating highs. Was shocked when you said 11 years and still looks the same.
A larger capacity and or a smaller footprint would be great with longer wear time would be great. A small change would be to make the sides of the omnipod textured to make sure it won't slip out of your fingers when applying a new pod.
I loop so have access to a lot of what you said so yay!!! But I’d like a longer lasting lasting pod. Making it my choice when I need to change- if the pod is still working and we can Potentially get 5-6 days then why limit us to 3 days if the pod is still functioning well. Definitely love to pod though
I've been on Dash and Omnipod 5. I would like a pre insulin bolus countdown on the PDM before I eat. I.e. If you're blood glucose level is high that you need longer for the insulin to kick in. I know I could do a countdown on my phone but would be helpful on the PDM.
I am a current Medtronic 870G with Guardian 4 user. My doctor just prescribed the Omnipod 5 with Dexcom 7 for me, and I am looking forward to the change. Do you have any tips you could recommend as I make the switch to the new system?
Three easy ish things: First, smarter more customizable alarms. An empty or expired pod during a dinner or business meeting is awful and unnecessarily loud and obnoxious. There are numerous simple ways to better handle that situation. Second, less waste and pod recycling. Even producing a simple tool for opening and separating the pods into batteries, ewaste, and landfill would be great. Otherwise, fully fund your recycling program. Third, and finally, approval for U-200+ insulin. I was using about 100+ units/day and switching to concentrate has been a game changer!
There are fully fcl apps out in the diy community. I runt autoISF for iOS since april-23 and are approx 94-96% in range the last 6 month doing no carbs or bolus. Hope they will bring this advanced algos to the new commercial systems.

I’ve been on the Omnipod since it first came out, on the Omnipod 5 since it debuted, and I love it. Don’t feel the need for the bolus button on the pump, because my phone is always with me anyway. Smaller is always better, but I really have no issue with the current form factor. More CGM compatibility would be nice. But my main issue, Insulet, please, if you’re paying attention, please let me set my target glucose to 90 instead of 110!
Refillable or exchangable reservoir. I use 100u a day on average so a 7 day cannula would do me no good. I do have issues once in a while when the cannula doesn't insert, after a few hours of high bloodsugars I take off the pod to find a cannula folded in half partially stuck in my skin. So maybe a big clear window around the cannula to verify that it is in.
Hallo Justin, es wäre schön wenn es mehr Segmente für die KI- Faktoren und. Zielwerte gäbe als nur 8 . Auch wäre es schön wenn der negative IOB ausgewiesen werden würde. Danke für deine Informationen!!!
I just want them all to work better. Losing signal is a huge issue for me. I understand if I go out of range. That is my fault. I am not doing that. I am right beside it and the cgm pump connection goes out. It worries me that if it does that during the night I will not know. CGM's are great but I don't necessarily trust them for the night and find it frustrating when they won't connect sometimes for an hour. I actually have had them go out for as much as 6 hours here and there. I am in multiple chat groups for problem solving and this is a common complaint.
I like everything you said, but one thing. I don’t see the use of having a bolus button on the Omnipod. This is why. If I am out with the family just hanging out in the back yard, or at the beach. The bolus button would be a good idea in theory. If my glucose is at 72 and I am consuming 30g of Carbs. With the bolus button, I would bolus for the carb and not adjusting it for the low glucose. Not a good idea. I would still need to go to my phone to adjust for my glucose. If this make sense. this can also go with being high.
Hey Justin, coming from the Medtronic system, in my experience, the extended reservoir claim of up to 7 days is bogus. I've used their systems for years and the longest i can get is up to 3 days before starting to get site infection. I even called them about it and the representative mentioned that they've had numerous complaints about this. So i guess this might be dependent on the person, amount of perspiration, and other potential factors that might lead to infection. So take their "up to 7 day reservoir" with a huge grain of salt.
The Tandem, beta bionics and Medtronic all work without a smartphone in the US. There may be others outside the US as well. I’m not certain which ones. These three allow you to connect the CGM directly to the pump.
Hardware wise I would love for the pump and infusion set to be separate. Child has been experiencing some skin irritation around the dexcom and pump sites, and if she scratches and they come off it's wasted. I'm excited for some of the other tubeless pumps that are coming.
You could get the size and/or the extended wear without increasing the insulin capacity if they made the omnipod friendly to switching to u-200 insulin without needing to manage the calculations manually. In a perfect world though you should generally be trying to minimize the amount of insulin you need to stay in a healthy range, otherwise you can potentially get caught in a vicious cycle where higher insulin dosages increases your insulin resistance which requires higher insulin dosing.
I would love for the wear time to improve. Plus closed loop where I don’t need to be as involved would be amazing. It’s not making my life easier right now. I’m new to insulin pump in general & have the omnipod 5. I’ve been using it for about a month & I’m not going to lie I stopped using it when it failed me on Christmas eve. I have yet to put it back on because I am a strong believer in not wasting insulin pens that someone else is literally dying to have & since I went a day doing mdi i didn’t want to waste my long acting pen so I used it up. My sugars have been better controlled w/ My being in control. It makes it hard to want to go back. But w/ that said…I also have all these pods. So I will be going back to pods soon. I will also be seeing my doctor soon and getting my #’s updated because I was not getting enough insulin w/ my current #’s & I’m not great at the math part so I’m afraid to experiment on my own. Unlike w/ mdi i tend to experiment w/ that often because I’ve been doing that for 36 yrs. But I definitely want more wear time. Every 3 days is exhausting & finding the pump space that gets good absorption is hard for me. So finding a spot then having to change it 3 days later really sucks.
I would like to think that the manufacturer/designers of the PDM could sincerely consider that not everyone can afford a phone ( which is listed on the compatibility list). Not one of them is a tough phones. Many of us live in areas where common dainty phone just wouldn't last a day. My. Tough phones has found itself under the tractor tyre at least 4 times, in the dam ; I can't remember. But it still works ( I am typing this message to you on it). What about the guys on oil rigs? Not all of us work & live in the city. i.e. build a system for the worst case scenario. Better still, take the restrictions of the type of phones off. Thanks for your time Peter Young
Bigger chamber. I'm t1 with severe insulin resistance, and need more insulin. I use u590 off label in my 780g. I just don't have a good justification to use Omnipod at this point. A 300 would be awesome
Unfortunately I could never use the omnipod due to the fact that I had a really bad skin reaction to the glue, and I am not the only one. My hope for omnipod is that they would offer pods with an alternative glue. So I could finally be able to use it. (I had been wearing Medtronic and Tandem pumps as well as Libre and dexcom sensors with no adverse reaction to their glue ever. I wonder what type of glue they use for the omnipod that is causing this reaction.)
Hi Justin, On the Tandem tslim you can’t give a quick bolus if control IQ is on. In fact that’s true of 780g too. Currently their algorithms don’t accommodate this. I think you’ll find the next iteration of closed loop systems will aim to auto- bolus, overcoming the challenge you’re describing. Interesting stats re: % of t2d users relative to insulin requirements. Does this account for dose reduction caused by increased insulin sensitivity? In t1d it’s usually 20-30% but I’ve seen far better in t2d - up to 50% reduction in total daily insulin requirements. 200 units/day is definitely limiting.
If you went for a longer wear time i think that has more to do with how well a site last. So they’d have to change the canula to cause less inflammation so the site could last longer. I replace my pods every two days, because for me they don’t usually make it all the way to 3 Everything i do is DYI, so if they released a smaller version of the DASH pods, even if they carry less insulin, i’d be happy. I imagine any new pods they release they’d lock out those using DYI if they could. Really my gripe is with CGMs. The G7 was a big disappointment
I’d love to see a better algorithm for the Omnipod. I had the Tandem T-slim for years, switched to Omnipod from Jan 2024 to Oct 2024 and switched back to Tandem in Nov 2024. My glucose levels were always running high with Omnipod, even during the night. As soon as my glucose was 110-120, the Omnipod would stop delivering basal, any my levels would end up high. I’m not sure if this is just me. I’ve tried everything including the “pump and dump” to increase my total daily dose. My guess is that this happens because my TDD is only between 20-25 units. I miss the tubeless Omnipod and hoping for Tandem Sigi.
Not just you. I’m around 150 160 all night unless I do something during the day that dramatically reduces my insulin needs such as eat less than 1000 calories or exercise 3 hours plus.
I would like to see if you go from the controller to the phone or if you get an updated phone, the system-app will download the prior history of the use of the Omnipod. Currently, if you go from the controller to an iPhone, the system has to LEARN you all over agin as if you never used it. Currently I have the app downloaded on my iPhone 14 Plus, but have not started it. If you have an account with Omnipod, which you do need to use the system, why can’t the app upload to your account the prior history and then when you change your phone, it downloads all of the previous history? This way you carry on as if you didn’t make a change in a device. I am doing great with the Omnipod 5 and to go back to as if I wasn’t on the system is really annoying. I was told by an Insulet rep that it will take at least 5 pods to get some kind of history. I’ve been on the Omnipod 5 for 2 years. Why can’t that data be migrated to the app on the phone?
Omnipod 6? Lol we're still waiting for Omnipod 5 in Canada, so annoying how long it's taking, they are just wait listing people even though its been approved.
The thing I’d like most and is probably the most simple thing to do…SHOW BLOOD LEVEL / IOB ON PDM LOCK SCREEN..obviously the most important thing to a diabetic but you have to unlock the PDM to see it absolutely stupid 😮
In addition, I would love to learn how to get the IOB to show on the screen in my car. We used the hack (using the iPhone calendar) you taught us but it only shows the BG and trend arrow. That much is much appreciated, but the IOB would make it perfect.
I don't think a longer than 3 days lasting pod would work as when I take off my omnipod 5 after 3 days my arm is swollen from all the insulin I have been using through the 2 days so if it stayed on longer then surely that would mean the swollen arm site would be even bigger 🤔yes it sounds good as an idea but I don't think practically it would work
Longer wear time is terrifying. I get tons of channeling by day 3 and longer wear is going to come with stronger adhesive and I don’t want to have to buy a ton of third party products to protect my skin from the adhesives
I don’t understand how they would incorporate the eversence. Omnipod 5 requires line of sight. Wouldn’t that mean you could only put a pod on half your body for one year?? Maybe I’m missing something.
I want more RANGE from the phone to the device. If I have to get up to go do something, I don't want to have to collect my assorted devices to take with me just to go to the mail box or go answer the door.
Good luck with any of that. Insulet is terrible with over promising and under delivering. G7 was out for over a year before they integrated it. Cell phones on the market for a year before its compatible. Iphone promised for 2 years and its only gets G6. I like my pod but the technology lacks. Im excited for the Twiist pump
I don’t like the Omnipod 5 algorithm. It does a great job preventing lows but not aggressive enough to control highs. Too many manual corrections. My problem with Insulet is that they’re slow to improve their pump. I’ve been using the Omnipod 5 for two years but look how long it took them to introduce the iPhone app
Not being able to use Bluetooth items for insulin is security for users because there has been deaths of peoples insulin pump being hacked and giving a pump user insulin that's not needed and that's without Bluetooth devices. Just think what would happen with Bluetooth devices being easier to hack. But beating around the bush is what they are saying and that's why they are not going that direction not very fast is security but I'm with you on everything with all pumps
Software wise I would like it to work with other smart watches. We're not in the apple ecosystem, and can't use an apple watch. I would happily buy her a first party insulet or dexcom branded watch.
NO BUTTON! to risky and If you bump it while your sleeping and sleep through it, no thanks. You forgot your phone or pdm, well guess what turn your ass around.
I really don't like the idea of using pumps just for 2-3 days. Such a waste of resources and surely way more expensive than a decent pump where only the catheter needs to be changed. I just think it's the producers who want to keep the money flowing in: A decent designed pump could work for up to eight years. And the hardware is cheap to produce. So the cost should be cheaper for patients.
Thank you for always having your Sugarpixel in the background. I think it helps people feel “normal” when they see others with highs and lows.

Has omnipod got clearance to use cgm with medtronics pump?
Refillable or exchangable reservoir. I use 100u a day on average so a 7 day cannula would do me no good. I do have issues once in a while when the cannula doesn't insert, after a few hours of high bloodsugars I take off the pod to find a cannula folded in half partially stuck in my skin. So maybe a big clear window around the cannula to verify that it is in.
The Dash did bring some changes to the form factor. It was much smaller than Eros, but since Dash they haven't changed the form factor
Same size
I’m looking for a stainless steel cannula version. I can get 4 days with SST but less than 2 with plastic cannulas. Ugh!
Hallo Justin,
es wäre schön wenn es mehr Segmente für die KI- Faktoren und.
A bit longer wear time and openness to ensure easy integration with open systems such as AAPS and CGMs of your choice.
Hello Diabetech, do you know of any pump options that don't require a smart phone? is it possible with the beta bionics?
The Tandem, beta bionics and Medtronic all work without a smartphone in the US. There may be others outside the US as well. I’m not certain which ones. These three allow you to connect the CGM directly to the pump.
Hardware wise I would love for the pump and infusion set to be separate.
Child has been experiencing some skin irritation around the dexcom and pump sites, and if she scratches and they come off it's wasted.
I'm excited for some of the other tubeless pumps that are coming.
I’d like the option of a longer cannula or possibly a steel needle.
I would love a larger capacity. Currently I use the Tslim because of the 300 unit cartridges
My sugars have been better controlled w/
My being in control.
Thanks for your time
Peter Young
Bigger chamber. I'm t1 with severe insulin resistance, and need more insulin. I use u590 off label in my 780g. I just don't have a good justification to use Omnipod at this point. A 300 would be awesome
cool shirt !!!!!!
I would want a longer wearable time
Hi Justin,
On the Tandem tslim you can’t give a quick bolus if control IQ is on.
I replace my pods every two days, because for me they don’t usually make it all the way to 3
Everything i do is DYI, so if they released a smaller version of the DASH pods, even if they carry less insulin, i’d be happy.
Maybe have it where you can talk to your omnipod also
I would like to see if you go from the controller to the phone or if you get an updated phone, the system-app will download the prior history of the use of the Omnipod.
Why don't they approve the use of higher strength insulin? In the UK Novo Nordisk sell a 500 units/ml insulin sold in viles.
Less alarms, quieter also. Longer wear time! More aggressive treatment for high blood sugars.
Different cannula choices would be nice. My daughter is allergic to whatever material they use at the moment.
Make an option on android and ios for allowing urgent low to bypass phone silenced or of Bluetooth headphones are active no alarm is heard..
Stay with omnipod dash if you’re a loop / AAPS / Trio user
LONGER POD WEARING/ HOLDS MORE INSULIN❤❤❤
They must use the Libre 3+ because it's more accurate, works on Android and doesn't drop out for up to 5 hours like the Libre 2+.
2025 - Changing to Omnipod 5 with Dexcom 7 from Tandem. No more tubes.
Better algorithms to combat highs.. lower target glucose…
Ability for lows to be treated by the pump overnight instead of having to wake up and drink juice/eat something
U200 insulin can double the amount it holds
Please add more smartphone compatibility. Not everyone wants to or can use an iPhone or a Samsung/Pixel phone.
Negativ IOB
A Pizza profile😂.
Of course!!!
Number one feature. A smaller pump. My sites become irritated by day 3 most of the time. Definitely a smaller pod.
Longer Pod life, at least another 24 hours. Alarm for out of range eliminated.
A 90-degree inset 😭 The 45/50 (or whatever it is) degree inset is just horrible for me.
smaller Size !!
Why $$$$
