    This was really fun/cathartic to watch. Thank you so much, Justin. I've been a type one for 23 years. I started on an angled, self-inserted, infusion set when I was a kid. It was NOT my favorite. I am so thankful tech has advanced and that we have more options now. Thanks for your work (and sacrifice)!

    This was fun to watch as a pump user for 6 years. I've exclusively been using the Tandem pump with the Autosoft 90/XC, but have recently been sampling the automatic angled and steel set. Angled set was definitely terrifying b/c of the length of the applicator needle. I also didn't really like it b/c I felt like the angle was too inconsistent and it also just felt weird. I also wouldn't be able to use my arms as a site b/c of how much more involved it is with insertion.
    Big fan of the steel set: basically just like manual injections (never had any needle phobia thankfully), no pain (if I feel a bad spot I could always move it), more control on where to put it, and no bent canulas(!).
    Never had trouble with tubing tugging since you learn how to tuck it away pretty good. I think in all 6 years, I've only had a set pulled out maybe 3 times and I do a lot of manual labor type work. Great video btw, hope it wasn't too much of mental torture dealing with some of those manual sets.

    If you twist the blue needle protector on the autosoft slightly instead of pulling straight out, it will come off without disturbing anything. Twisting breaks the bond and then it will slide off easier.

    Brave soul! Thanks for taking one for the team. This reaffirms my feeling that I could not do a tubed pump especially the manually inserted ones. Omnipod was what I started with and even with that someone else had to hit the start button for me the first few times couldn't make myself do it. Same with the dexcom. Diabetes for a needle phobe is a cruel thing. Thanks for the info you share. Still lots to learn at almost a year in for me.

    Great vid for people who aren't sure about what infusion sites to go with. I've used the minimed quickset and the tandem sc. With the tandem, if you twist the plastic cannula protector before and as you remove it, it won't come out of the insertion device as easily. Also in my opinion the minimed quickserter is straight in and out, reusable and a little easier to use than the tandem autosoft sc. The insertion device of the autosoft feels more flimsy than the quickserter, but both are very similar in application.

    Justin, this was hilarious and thank you for making the video. There were moments with me yelling at the screen 'Nooooo, do this first.....'. I did the manual, angled sets for a long time. They do become routine and the length of the needle can be very deceiving and scary for the uninitiated 😊 All of the tubed pump users have stories to tell. Thanks for trying them out and making it entertaining.

    Type 1 for 16 years....a year and a half i went to Onnipod 5 and its been life changing. Before that i was always on Medtronic and only switched due to an amazing new endo and diabetes educator. I start Medtronic after a year and a half of MDI, and did Medtronic for 13.5 years. I spent a long time using the silhouette sites and always did them manually because their inserter is horrible 🤣. Then the mio was a big upgrade and i was on the mio advance when i stopped pumping with them (i still have some lol). Between the sensor and the sites and the tubbing, i miss really absolutely nothing about Medtronic 😮. Love your content!

    The Mio advanced is the same as the Extended. Just able to wear it 7 days. They were able to do this by changing properties of the tubing. Until another company makes a 7 day set, the Extended is the best. I know, to each his/her own. When you use an Extended you'll see the difference. My credentials are, 30yrs T1, 21yrs pumping, 7yrs CGM's. Of course I don't know squat, but the little that I do know is gold. Never think that you know it all. I still learn from the inexperienced!!

    I started on my first pump in June of this year. I got the Tandem pump and I’ve been using mostly the auto soft 90 (xc) but I also got a box of trusteel to try. The biggest downfall for me with the trusteel is that they’re only meant to be used for 2 days, the other problem I have is that sometimes my clothing gets caught on the “butterfly” grips used for insertion. My solution to that is using tegaderm clear dressings over my site. It was very interesting to see some of the different sets offered by tandem and Medtronic

    Thanks for showing so many infusion sets at once.
    I started with needles and it wasn’t terrible & it was the only route to administer insulin. Fav spot-abdomen (at home), but I have taken a shot through jeans.
    Next Medtronic 90 degrees. Quick sets. Excellent for ease of use. There is a later version of the applicator you have there that I liked better. I could do it in my sleep.
    Learning curve time again when I changed to Tandem t:slim with Control IQ & Dexcom CGM. Never looked back. Using their 90 degree AutoSoft XC.
    After the gizmo is inserted, I always put a piece of tape on to secure the tubing a few inches from the insertion site. Any tugs go to the tape.
    I am so very interested in omnipod but the speed bump is the amount of real estate involved.
    Would you consider doing a video on Unomedical, who seems to manufacture everyone’s insertion sets.

    Thank you so much for this video. My son, who was 7 when he was diagnosed with T1D on May 19, 2023, and today we received his first T slim pump ( i let him choose the pump he wanted, since he will be the one using it. He was so proud of his choice). They sent me the steel infusion instead of the one I actually wanted ( autosoft infusion XC). But hearing the reason on why the doctor order the steel infusion makes sense. My son is having a really bad allergic reaction to the dexcom adhesive and his arms are all full of scabs and old marks. I don't know how I feel about putting the steel infusion on my child. But thank you so much for making my choice as a parent who is still new at this much more easier ❤ We do have an appointment in a couple of days so I will definitely be bringing other options that will make it easier and what it is best for him. 😊❤

    On the 3rd Medtronic and the Autosoft, after romoving the sticker paper, gently twist the blue cover on the needle, then pull it off. After you insert them, and are trying to take off the housing cover, push down on those same center tabs that you used cock the unit, then pinch them center tabs together and then pull. That releases the housing from the port.

    30 years as a diabetic and I feel like I'm going to pass out watching you do the steel self insertion site! I have major needle phobia! Tandem doesn't have an option that works for me, so I use the mio advance and then just attach a tandem mio hose. I wish Tandem would offer the mio advance so that I wouldn't have to buy two separate infusion sets.

    I didn't look down to see if anyone mentioned this, but another reason (MY reason at least) that people prefer the TruSteel from either Tandem or Medtronic, is because like me, there can be kinks as you put the cannula in. And you don't know if it's kinked or bent until your sugar starts to skyrocket. You have no way of knowing until your sugar goes to 487 when all you've had is a glass of water.
    Also, remember on the TSteel you have to pull off the adhesive backing and the needle guard before you insert. Can't tell you how many times I've forgotten that damn needle guard and I insert the needle. THAT is NOT a pleasant experience. Trust me.

    • @jenniferbowie2773
      @jenniferbowie2773 4 місяці тому

      A way to combat that is when you insert your infusion set lift the introducer needle out slowly and as you lift up the plastic part hold on to the adhesive patch tight to your skin so when you pull the needle up it doesn’t take any extra skin up to kind of alp back down on your skin. I have started doing this and I stoped having bent cannulas. Just a suggestion I saw it on a video

    • @user-mh7tx3lb4f
      @user-mh7tx3lb4f 20 днів тому

      I use medtronic mio plastic cannula, my way of testing if insulin is being delivered is to do 1 unit, wait a few minutes, disconnect, and check if any insulin comes out of my tubing, it let me know if I hit a blood vessel or inserted it wrong because backpressure is preventing the insulin from going in, not foolproof but does help

  • @tracieturner1907
    @tracieturner1907 3 місяці тому

    My son is 15 and does ok with needles but not a huge fan. He was having issues keeping his cannula in his body, so Tandem sent a few samples. Our 2 favorites and easiest were the TruSteel and the AutoSoft 30. He actually chose the TruSteel because it's easier, faster, and no pain to put on, the opposite of what you said lol. When you put TruSteel on you have to just do it, with authority. If you go slow it will sting or have a little pain which makes sense. AutoSoft 30 is really helpful too because it goes in at an angle, and it has a longer cannula, and the patch has a little clear window to see the cannula inserted correctly. You just have to insert them correctly and in the proper places.

  • @Seiffx
    @Seiffx 2 місяці тому

    I use the Ypsopump and I like the fact that they have a cannula that goes 360 degrees, available in steel and plastic (I use the plastic one; it's called Orbitsoft). Also the adhesive is skin-coloured and activated by heat so it sticks really well!

  • @lumpichu
    @lumpichu 2 місяці тому

    What I don't like about the angled ones is that they leave a little mark on my skin after taking them out after the few days. It's because the flexible cannula is applying a little constant force to the skin there from the bent. Apart from that they worked very well for me.
    I need to try the Sure-T. Never used a steel set. Maybe it'd work better than the plastic ones. It looks good. I believe it's supposed to be inserted a bit differently. I think I used something similar to almost all other sets you presented.
    There is also an inserter for the Silhouette. But I always did manual. Didn't have it. No problems for me... I started taking insulin even before pens :)

    Nice!! I use an omnipod now but back in the day I had an Animas OneTouch Ping. The infusion sets were made by a company called inset. The Tandem and Medtronic ones that look similar with the similar mechanism are the old inset straight sets. They also had a 45 angled set that was even WORSE if you’re needle phobic. Took me down memory lane! I wondered what happened to that company. Looks like they sell blanks for pump companies to brand. They probably have a few slightly different options companies can buy and license. Pretty cool!

    I use the medtronic sure t. I find it easier to put in if you don't hold onto that bendy piece. I just put it in. I like the stainless steel cannula so I don't have to worry about it bending. I used to use that long angle one and hated it. Thank you so much for your videos. Been type 1 for 46 years. I still use series 523 pump but am exploring more current options.

    Also: The plastic cannula is also put in with an introductory needle, you just can't see it, and that's part of the issue people have, is actually seeing the needle. There's always one there; you can't insert a plastic cannula in without some kind of steel introductory needle.

    I follow you on IG and this video brought me to your YT 😊 I’ve had T1D for 33 years, I had just turned 13 but was always sickly as a kid. Started out of course on shots. Then when I was older and pregnant with my first child, I took 3-4 shots a day. In the beginning it was NpH and R (regular haha). Then Humulin N and Humulin R….i won’t go on and bore you but things have changed a lot lol. I mixed the two at breakfast,
    did sliding scale of R for lunch, mixed at dinner, then sliding scale R at bedtime if needed. Which I still used sliding scale for glucose regardless. Six years later was pregnant with second child and started off rocky. Sugar was 683 the morning I found out. Had complications throughout, had emergency C-section 8 weeks early and nearly lost him…while being very sick myself. Fast forward little over 4 years and was pregnant (wasn’t planned but was most definitely welcomed 😊)…so my ob sends me to new Endo and they get me on an insulin pump right away. Was much better than 6-8 shots a day with second child.
    Started out with Medtronic and stayed with them for 13 years (I had the 715 and The Revel w/Enlite sensor) I hated the cgm that came with it from pain and quit wearing it. When I was eligible I upgraded to the Tandem t:Slim X2 with Dexcom G6. Been with it for 4 years. Since it’s out of warranty they’ve called to set up me getting a new one. Will still be x2 (their pump cases alone had me HATING it this entire time). Medtronic’s cases are at least better. I bought a different style that has actual clip instead of the metal sun visor clips from 1970, but they don’t hold up well either so after two I didn’t buy anymore. I’ve told Tandem this at every chance too! lol. The least they could do is make it comfortable, lightweight, and actually clip to clothes easily and stay clipped. Every time one with Medtronic broke, which wasn’t often, they replaced free. They told me they have a new much smaller pump coming out the first of 2024 and if I upgrade now, then in January/February when it rolls out I can pay a one time $300 fee to upgrade and just send the x2 back. But it’s mainly controlled by iPhone. Lots of “ifs” for me on that one. Anyway, they said G7 is still being fine tuned with control iq so I’ll most likely get that early 2024 as well 🤷🏼‍♀️
    So my point in all this is 😂 ( I was falling down the rabbit hole here 🤦🏼‍♀️ to say I have days that I’m over it would be an understatement) 😢
    I’m becoming more curious about the Omnipod 5 (that’s the newest one right?) I’m so limited with where I can wear my pump because of the tubing. Some people don’t struggle but I do. Now that I’ve come to your UA-cam page I’m going to try and learn more about it before I complete my upgrade with tandem. I really appreciate your videos and you trying all these out for us! I have a few complications from my t1d and have developed other autoimmune diseases so i feel like there’s some things I’m either learning all over again, or things I’m trying to figure out how to do better and easier. 💙💜

      Omnipod 5 you can just get now without having to wait the 5 years for a new pump...or at least that's what they told me (the company). And since you're already on the Dexcom G6 then the Omnipod 5 works great with the Dexcom G6. And when they do actually get the Dexcom G7 integrated with the Omnipod 5 then you can just get prescribed that from your doctor at your pharmacy. That's what I'm doing for now at least.

    It would have been helpful to put a small chart on the end of the video with names and scores. I'll have to watch again and write them all down. It's all about the data...

    No, you look better with fur. I put mine to the side of the fur.

    Perhaps read the instructions before attempting and rating. 😂

      @@diabe_tech sometimes the instructions make it more complicated then it really is anyway. I’ve tried a few infusion sets and have sometimes just to to hell with the instructions and found a better way to do it.

    This would have been a better "experience with me" had you actually researched how to PROPERLY insert some of those sets. There was some definite user-error going on!

      I tried my best! I thought I was more prepared. I don't disagree with you. I want to redo it with a diabetes educator in the room. Maybe I can split them out by pump and have a few videos...

    For those of us struggling to afford our diabetic supplies this hurts to watch all of these being wasted. I appreciate the info but its taken with a grain of salt.

      This was a sacrifice for education. The education far outweighs a few supplies. I feel for anyone struggling with not enough supplies.
