I love your videos btw. I am a T1D. I was diagnosed on New Year’s Eve in 1998 at the age of 6yo. So I’ve been a T1D for almost 26 years. And I am still amazed at how far tech has come for diabetes and the struggles I had my whole life until I started using open loop sources and having all this automation.

I wear omnipod 5 and I love it but I will say as a fellow perfectionist I wish it were more aggressive. I have lows so rarely on this system which is great. Activity mode works well for me if I dont have much IOB, I turn it on about 1 hour before. I have the android app which has the g7 integration, I feel the hold up has been on apple's end. But the compatibility has been really confusing for most people.
    The evolution algorithm sounds interesting!!
I think omnipod needs to introduce lower targets and get the system approved for use during pregnancy

I agree with you that the Omnipod 5 is not aggressive enough to reduce highs. It’s great for managing lows but I’m having to give myself too many corrections. My A1c is always around 6.2% but the Tandem pump that I used before switching was to me more like an artificial pancreas.

Love your videos/content. I also have T1D. I got diagnosed when i was 24years old on April 28,2021. Watching your content makes me learn so much, and makes me feel like i'm not alone with T1D. I use Omnipod Dash Pods and I love it. I also wear a DexcomG7. In addition, I also had times where my PDM wouldn't connect to my Omnipod, but that can happen because of issues with the PDM. Wish you all the best 😊Thank you for all that you do.

I have been on the Omni 5 for over a year and half. All of the discussion on all the additions is fine, but I am looking fr the KISS principle! Less touches, less views and if you want to know your current BGs, the watch does it for you. And now with the G7 you can see BGs without the phone. My in range is around 95% and my average BGs is around 115 to 120. And I just downloaded the ALL for my phone and will making the transition shortly to the iPhone. As far as having G6s left, just use them up! There are those who cannot afford or are covered. So for however long your G6 appliances last, use them and then make the transition. Or see if there is someone you can donate them to. Sometimes these comments makes us seem spoiled having many too many choices. Being a T1D for 56 years, you who have the technology don’t know hope fortunate you are to have it based and where T1Ds were back decades ago . Thank for an informative podcast.

It is really nuts that they are developing a new iphone app for an older CGM (G6). Especially when the new pods work with both G6 and G7. It cannot be that hard to include the G7 in the new app.

I have enthusiasm for the Tandem Sigi pump because it uses cartridges instead of inserting the insulin from a vial with a needle sounds the most appealing to me. I’m not diabetic but as I know from watching you and other LADAs I know it the inevitable could happen at any time.
My concern about using insulin is the vial.
I have mentioned that I’m allergic to Latex and the tops of vials such as insulin and other needle accessed medications may come in contact with the vial stopper as it’s being drawn out. Some of these vials turn out to contain Latex.
As a child who used growth hormone shots at night because I would have been stuck at 3ft tall if not otherwise had at least a couple injections have a hive
I’ve seen online that MDIs with the InPen would be my go around with this and with Tandem Sigi that would be an improvement.

I am on Dash- when the new pod won’t connect I restart the PDM and then it will connect even after the pod is sitting there a few minutes filled with insulin- just go to change pod once PDM restarts and do the steps where you left off (don’t need to hear the 2 beeps again).

Sport mode is a pain with dblg1 also. Must be a regulatory issue.
If I go hiking, it is typically for many hours, and having a target near to 10 mmol (180) mg is really not what I want. And the constant alarms when I approach 5 mmol/dl is a pain...
I typically take some fruit paste, but it acts somewhat slowly... in the meantime, every 5 minutes the alarm goes off again. Not nice if one is hiking in snow with gloves, or climbing.
Thanks for the video - I'll very likely be on dash pods and DIY in the coming months. I waited 50+ years for that moment.
TIR for me is 85%, but I wish it could be better... as for me, staying 2 hours just under 10 mmol's is just not what I want.

When Libre 3, I moved to it and love the fact I don't have to scan the sensor anymore. At this point, insurance will not pay. Soi, I am wondering if DIY is less expensive way to go. I need resources as to where I can go for information. Ray Knapp

The 6 months wait is my "diabetes tax", but it really doesn’t matter anymore, because te phones are 99% same than the previous model, nothing is happening anymore on the phone front.

I have been on an Omnipod system since 2011. First the Eros, then the 5 since December of last year. I detest the algorithm of the 5 since it does not take into account that many people don't eat high-carb. Even my endo says that lower carb folks don't do well on the 5 since its algorithm assumes a 50% bolus, 50% basal ratio. I need a way higher basal rate than bolus, and on the 5 in auto mode, I always ran high. And the system does not correct enough for me. I am switching to the DASH system soon, since I never use the auto mode on the 5. I had a 5.6 A1C on the Eros system with a DIY loop, so obviously I was doing something right (for me).

T1, OP5 and G7 on manual mode. I'm getting 88-92% on average TIR. I fiddle with my basal program maybe once a month. I bolus for food and maybe do one correction per day on average. I have 3 or 4 low warnings per week, but never anything scary. I just dip below 70 with a horizontal arrow now and again. Two swigs of juice generally fixes the issue. I usually turn down basal by approx. 50% for strenuous exercise depending on IOB. I also always have juice near me when exercising. The bit of information that most commenters don't include is daily insulin volume. Mine is currently about 40 units per day. Not sure why this information seems to be so closely guarded??? Overall I treat the OP5 like MDI with the significant benefits of micro dosing, being able to inject from the PDM, and having control over my basal rate throughout the day. I've never been automated. I sort of like knowing exactly what is going on. It probably isn't that much more work either. You still have to bolus for meals. You still have to deal with exercise issues. It seems that the only significant thing that automation does is do corrections (and turn off basal rate when going low).
Then there are the Loop systems with tons of settings and customizations. That's still dealing with diabetes. You can make lots of decisions about how much insulin goes into your body directly or you can make lots of decisions about how your "automated" delivery system is going to make decisions about how much insulin goes into your body indirectly. Six of one and a half dozen of the other. The point for many seems to be expending the least amount of brain time on diabetes. I don't know.... I see no way around it. If you have T1, you gotta think about it. That being said, for kids and teens and the aged... automation like OP5 might be the better way. 70% TIR is certainly better than 50%.

This is the most ridiculous stuff I have ever heard. I've been in technology for over 30 years. The OmniPod is certified for use with any FDA approved u-100 fast acting insulin, but not with any FDA approved CGM. It's model specific. Which makes no sense other than it's a money grab of some kind. The system should poll the CGM for its ID and authenticate it. That's it. What is so f(*&ing difficult? The system only requires a glucose reading. They are making out to be this big thing when it isn't. Based on what you explained in the video, I'm not impressed with this system at all. And when a new iPhone comes out, the app won't work with it? Seriously? Seems like they have outsourced the development of the software which is causing insane bottlenecks. The device is crap technology and a garbage company managing it. Looks like another company taking advantage of diabetics.

      Practically speaking.
Not all Bluetooth transmitters are created equal. Not all sensors have the same accuracy. Both do influence how the pumps control law works. Each combination of sensors and pumps do need to be shown to work together.
In short more sensor options is more expensive.
However, how much more and why they don’t do this is anyone’s guess.
