Something about being underground sort of puts you on a countdown timer you can never quite forget about. The timer until your lights inevitably go out because of battery depletion or power outage, or some other reasons. Then everything goes pitch black. Then you are put on a second countdown timer of your emergency lights lasting long enough to fix your primary lighting. It's all about the lighting because humans are not meant to live underground. It's a constant, and interesting forever battle against the dark, that can never truly be won. Something about that is just exciting. Keeping the lights on, goes from a mundane activity, to a religious dogma.

Going in, darkness greets you. You reach out for the lantern and see the dark even further down the tunnel. You keep going, exploring, wandering and wondering what lies ahead. As you're deep within, the top suddenly collapses behind you, you move forward seeking a way out only to find the end of the tunnel shortly after a few steps. There's no way out, on one side, a solid wall, on the other, collapsed rocks. No one can hear your cries of help, no one has any idea you're there. No escape. Forever trapped. It's the end.
