Ryan Marvel huh? What do you mean its flipped when you watch a previously recorded video? The only time a video is flipped is when you are viewing a front facing preview screen on a camera, or when you are using the front camera on a phone. Otherwise it was a stylistic choice done in post processing. Or, at least in this case it was done as an aesthetic teaching method to allow interaction with the viewer and the board.

Thanks so much for sharing this. I've been helping my 15 yr. old son with Algebra 2, and he's currently factoring quadratics. Algebra 2 was the highest level of math I completed in college about 25 years ago (and I haven't used it since), so I've basically been relearning it while I'm helping him out.
We were having a really hard time factoring whenever the x^2 had a coefficient and there was no GCF for abc. He had shown me the "magic X" technique for simpler quadratic equations, but didn't know how to apply it for the harder ones like the one you demonstrated. So thanks to your tutorial and a couple of practice problems, we were finally able to nail it. As a GenX parent I can't be more thankful to have virtual tutors like yourself accessible in a moment's notice on UA-cam. Back in my day, you were pretty much dead if you didn't understand a math concept/application and 1) your math teacher never explained it clearly and 2) you had nobody in your family that was a math wiz. So thanks a million!

Thank you. Thank you. I was teaching high school algebra and factoring 30 years ago and learned the X factor (for when the x squared has a coefficient that makes it more complicated). The student who taught this to the class called it "Texas" style, having moved from Texas to N. California. Now I'm in my 70's helping teenage grandchildren with their trigonometry at the community college. My memory is not so great anymore and we got stuck on factoring quadratics for about a week. I am so glad I found your excellent video. Everything else I looked at on UA-cam fell short of that final Texas method for solving the more complicated problems. You are genius! and I can once again look good for my grandkids.

A bautiful fact about factoring quadratic is, that the two numbers wich add to b and multiply to ac are just the zero points of the equasion. So you can just use the quadratic formula to find them without any of that magic X stuff

Nancy I am 58 and watching because I never understood any math in high school and only took one math class in college. Could you please, as you are explaining "how to solve", could you also explain what this is used for. And not just for this video but all of your vids. I, long ago and far away, asked this question in a math class in college when we were learning matrixs (or is it matrices, I am also a creative speller so spelling may not be correct). I was given an answer by the instructor that was in essence: "I don't know And it doesn't matter". Well it does matter! I always had a hard time with something if there was not a stated or obvious application. Enjoy your vids, it's never too late to learn. Thank you

Used a lot in Engineering. I'm watching the video for a refresh on factorising because we're studying Calculus Optimisation and sometimes you need to factorise before you can find the derivate on a function.

Matrices are essential in computer graphics. You can express translations, rotations, scaling, shearing and perspective projection with matrices. And the cool thing is you can encode all into a single matrix.

You're just juggling number to achieve a result. What math is used for? Anything and everything. It's like asking what numbers are good for. The short answer is whatever you want to use it for. Khan made a decent video that kinda covers that basic idea.
      ua-cam.com/video/kpCJyQ2usJ4/v-deo.html
And of course you can just look up specific examples of anything

When I was at college the way I understood quadratic equations was to visualise them on a graph. I'm sure you all know that y=x^2 graph looks like. It's a simple parabola (v-shape graph) with the lowest point at x=0. In other words, the solution to x^2 is 0, it's the value of x which gives y=0.
So, the solution to a more complex equation, such as x^2+4x-12 it is simply saying what are the 2 values x where value of y is 0, i.e. the points along the x-axis where the graph cuts the x-axis.
To visualise this, go to www.desmos.com/calculator and enter the quadratic x^2+4x-12 into the left panel and you'd see the parabolic graph where it cuts the x-axis at x=2 and x=-6.
