I WISH I would’ve found this video before we did our factoring test. My math teacher made it seem SO much harder than it should’ve been. Thank you so much for finding easier methods to explain!
I am a practicing engineer, but haven't thought about factoring a quadratic once in 30+ years. Recently was helping my daughter with math and I was struggling to remember how (I'd just plot it in Excel and not bother factoring it, and I've never seen an engineer actually use factoring in the workplace) and we found this video and it was exceedingly helpful in explaining it well to her. She's got her grades up to a B now in a couple days. Thank you!
Nancy I am 58 and watching because I never understood any math in high school and only took one math class in college. Could you please, as you are explaining "how to solve", could you also explain what this is used for. And not just for this video but all of your vids. I, long ago and far away, asked this question in a math class in college when we were learning matrixs (or is it matrices, I am also a creative speller so spelling may not be correct). I was given an answer by the instructor that was in essence: "I don't know And it doesn't matter". Well it does matter! I always had a hard time with something if there was not a stated or obvious application. Enjoy your vids, it's never too late to learn. Thank you
Used a lot in Engineering. I'm watching the video for a refresh on factorising because we're studying Calculus Optimisation and sometimes you need to factorise before you can find the derivate on a function.
Matrices are essential in computer graphics. You can express translations, rotations, scaling, shearing and perspective projection with matrices. And the cool thing is you can encode all into a single matrix.
You're just juggling number to achieve a result. What math is used for? Anything and everything. It's like asking what numbers are good for. The short answer is whatever you want to use it for. Khan made a decent video that kinda covers that basic idea. ua-cam.com/video/kpCJyQ2usJ4/v-deo.html And of course you can just look up specific examples of anything www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/quadratic-equation-real-world.html
When I was at college the way I understood quadratic equations was to visualise them on a graph. I'm sure you all know that y=x^2 graph looks like. It's a simple parabola (v-shape graph) with the lowest point at x=0. In other words, the solution to x^2 is 0, it's the value of x which gives y=0. So, the solution to a more complex equation, such as x^2+4x-12 it is simply saying what are the 2 values x where value of y is 0, i.e. the points along the x-axis where the graph cuts the x-axis. To visualise this, go to www.desmos.com/calculator and enter the quadratic x^2+4x-12 into the left panel and you'd see the parabolic graph where it cuts the x-axis at x=2 and x=-6.
not even joking this thing works miracles. i dont even pay attention (i dont bring my glasses and i cant see the board) in class nor do i write notes. jammed this vid in one night before my test, and i solved all the problems on my study guide with little effort. love love love.
I realised that with this method you always have to simplify the left and the right fraction, even if you have -2/2 you have to write it as -1/1. Otherwise you get a wrong function at the end.

Just a question, which school do u study in? I might know. I'm 14 and I study at NAISAK
My best teacher and iron my name is Anna and my name is Anna and my family name is Selsa and so there is a lot of stuff you need to know about my my brother name is a Johnny Chavo
Thank you!
would you please stop finding your x just accept that he is gone
Jrc Destreza 😂😂😂
I don't even want the damn x (I have no choice)
no one would bounce on nancy she too fine and intelligent
First she's gotta find the Y to know why he left.
oof, i can't even like the comment cause its on 420 likes.... F
It is used in engineering but it is also used for problem solving skills.
You're just juggling number to achieve a result. What math is used for? Anything and everything. It's like asking what numbers are good for. The short answer is whatever you want to use it for. Khan made a decent video that kinda covers that basic idea.

And of course you can just look up specific examples of anything

So glad you’re back.
@Akash Pal no
I realised that with this method you always have to simplify the left and the right fraction, even if you have -2/2 you have to write it as -1/1. Otherwise you get a wrong function at the end.
❤️😌you have saved my life I've never understood this thing ever since my first year at varsity n I've been watching your videos n it's really helpful to us and other people God bless you Nancy P sending loves from South Africa 🙏🙌
I'm more impressed than anything else that she's writing this all back to front so we can see it the right way around on the glass 😀
its flipped
@@aaron4965 you think she's right handed and flipped the video in post? That's my illusion ruined 😂
Thank you for teaching me!! Gone from anxious to confident in less than an hour ☺️
Nancy, you keep saving my life as math comes in on one of my ears and a day later leaves on the other! Thanks!
Algebra, please stop asking us to find your X, she is never coming back and don’t ask Y
Hahaha lol 😂
Our math teacher just told us to go watch math videos lol
😂😂😂😂
I'm seriously wondering why I'm paying to take a class that's basically sending me to watch videos on YT too. Unfortunately the videos my instructor linked are nott nearly half as useful as this one.
I’m 63 years young, and a CPA, so I use math every minute of my workday. If I had a math teacher who explains math and breaks it down to it’s simplest form, I would have enjoyed math better as an elementary and high school student. Thank God I worked very hard at math and succeeded.
Thank you Nancy! I like the magic X! That was awesome.
I’ve never seen that X method. It’s awesome! I struggle with this. Thank you, Nancy!!
Thank you so much, life saver! Back into college algebra after not having attended college for a while, having taken my last course as calculus 2. Rusty math skills required a fresh start and even that is tricky. In just a few minutes I got back in track. I appreciate it much.
thanks that X magic method is really helpful
I feel like my math teacher just explained factoring in a weird way so I just didn’t understand. But this made it way easier to understand, thank you☺️
Thank you so much, this is the first maths video on UA-cam I actually genuinely understood!
Excellent video
"You don't need to like math but you can like my video"
Me:😂🤣
Writing backwards so naturally is the most impressive thing about this.
OMG i used to watched your videos on my way to college on a bus when i need help in college way back in 2012 and now I'm going to attend university and i have to review too much its been a decade and you videos are worth GOLD!! OR BITCOIN THIS DAYS , I love you!!
the one time i’m missing from school we do this and now i’m so lost in the homework 💧👁👄👁💧
The only thing I'm thinking about for 9:14mins is how impressive your backward writing is
shes writing normally, the camera is inverted
Words can't explain how grateful I am, thanks to you. It felt like a burden off my chest once I actually started understanding the easier way to factorise. Thank you so much and have a merry christmas! :)
Watching this before finals....
Gud luck

Thank you for helping you helping me in my freshman in high school

Extremely Helpful. I have been struggling with this for about an hour. Your method really makes things a lot easier. Thank You!
I have a D-F in Math, and in all my other subjects I have a 3.8 grade average. Doesn't really make sense right, haha. Anyway this helped so hopefully it will bring my grade up. I'm subscribing thanks so much!! :)
You should have 100 million subribers...you are better than my algebra teacher...😍
pewdiepie does so he must be great at teaching math

Those dislike are from math teachers who are horrible at teaching
This comment is so underrated
No one gonna talk about how she is writing backwards?
I noticed that too lmao
I notice that too
She just writes normally on glass and then flips the video in post
@@XlarallUntang She writes on glass but not normally, it's backwards.(as you can tell by her facial expressions when she's writing)
Bruh your profile pick fits
Nancy so much you saved my math life I have a final exam coming up and finding the 2 numbers was hard as hell thank you so much you saved my life without knowing it again thank you so deeply
Always save people from stuff because my name is name
WOW I don't know how to thank you! I was struggling to do this in precalc and you saved me!
What are you thinking Nancy are you dumb to something something is wrong with you man see the only brightest teacher I've ever watched on UA-cam so I don't know what you're saying you're dumb place
Honestly, fabulous teacher! Makes everything seem so simple! Love you sooooo much! Thanks for making me reach astar in math!
Found this video when my daughter asked me to help her with her homework. You Truly are a life saver :)
Is no one going to talk about the fact that she is writing backwards just so we can read it
It's called mirroring the video silly
@@lastchance1036 Oh loll
thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! your a good teacher!
Your skill in writing backwards on the glass is amazing.
"Thank GOD", and thank you very much ☺️ That was REALLY EASY and REALLY good 😎 😉
no one gonna go over the fact she's technically writing backwards on her side?
i love this trick smmmmm, in class we were taught trial and error and splitting up the middle part but i wasn't grasping on to any of it, now i've found this channel and i'm forever thankful ❤❤
No wonder she is so smart, she is left handed
I guess the video was reversed by montage
whaaa-this is such a random compliment to give lmao. I thought you'd mention the fact that she was MIT graduate instead of stating that she is left handed.
I'm left handed and I'm a retard.

No wonder you say this coz you don't know if its true
Thank you this helps so much!
you literally just saved my whole algebra grade i love you
does the magic X really work for ANY factoring quad?
Yare Yare Daze
@Ayesha Younis, yup.
It works on any quadratic equation, in fact, this is what i was actually taught straight off the bat in my school..
@Ayesha Younis, yup.

Not if the last number isn’t a constant
no it doesnt
Hot damn! This is the best way to factor quadratics, thank you.
How else u factored those??
That x method is terrific, it actually permits you to come up with the answer mentally without even putting to paper. I can't think of any other method that would enable one to mentally factorise a trinomial with a leading co-efficient greater than one.
