Also at around 07:50 you say you can use a support token to perform a second attack. You can reroll a single attack with a support token, not make another. I think your win rate is about to plummet ;)
You're amazing! I love how you edited the video, making the explanation so much easier and fun to watch! Truly epic! The moment I saw how you started to explain the game I've pushed that "like" button harder than I could and subscribed! You're an artist DadsGaming, those rare kind!
Thanks. I haven't had time to make any vids in awhile. I don't make any money doing this so its hard to justify time. I do plan on making more board game vids and well, games in general. With regards to video games i want to approach it like i do with board games. How to play and a playthrough to show gameplay. No reviews or opinions or yelling like a moron. Anyway thanks.
21:10 rulebook says Swarm: A group of one or more Genestealers on the same side and position of the formation. So a single Genestrahler ist still considered to ne a swarm
I usually don't comment on videos since I am pretty busy (I am part of the silent majority) but I saw this true gem and it would be criminal not to thank you for your work. This is an underrated board game and the effort you put into explaining the rules is extraordinary. Thank you so much for making such a concise, informative and visually pleasing video explaining everything. It may seem that there aren't many people that have commented but I can assure you that there are many people (I shared this to my gaming group of 10 friends already haha) that have watched this video and enjoyed it very much! Looking forward to future material!
Wow what a great comment! Thank you very much. I had fun making it and yes I have a few more how to play videos for some of my favourite games coming up.
I appreciate you leaving the little mistakes and corrections you had in your set up and play through..because lord knows i'll probably be making the same ones!
Great, simple, really well filmed/produced guide. Just started playing this game solo tonight and wasn't sure on how a few little fiddly bits of the turn sequence worked. But I feel like I really understand the rules now I've watched this video. Could have saved myself half an hour with the rulebook and just watched this first.
Awesome video. Rulebook of this game is kind of a mess, so this video really helps to understand the game mechanics. This game is pure murder sometimes though. I have lost more games, then I can count. For the sake of just making it easier for myself, I sometimes chance the rules a little bit. Like give a support token to every marine in the start of the game (thinking here that they could have Action Points, like in Deathwing or other Space Hulk games) or if you roll 2(skull), you get to kill TWO Genestealers. Of course, it disrupt the balance, but goddamn it makes the game little bit easier. Have you ever tried campaing variants from boardgamegeek forums? Some of them are pretty nice. I also found a campaing variant from reddit, that makes this game lot of fun, like a chance to encounter Chaos Marines. (In this variant if a Marine dies, you roll a dice. If you get a skull, that Marine is Corrupted and gets shuffled in the Genestealer or blip deck). As it happens (and what your video made quite clear), this game can be merciless. So I encourage to experiment with the rules. You just might come up with something that gives a whole lot of replay value for Death Angel.
All the effort and insane details you did in this video are deeply appreciated by everyone who had the chance to see it. Hope you read this and makes your day better knowing that you helped out another Dad, I also hope you came back to making more videos. Thanks for everything
Wow thanks. Good to hear. Yes I am planning .....actually making more videos. Im making one now but its taking me awhile. Its a build! I have another single player card game play through i want to tackle. Thanks again for your kind words. I dropped the name Dads Gaming BTW. Too generic. I went with my long time screen name..Trace Katral.
+Dave S Great now I'll have 2 wives yelling at me. The game is excellent and probably the best solo game I own. I didn't even mention the expansions in the video. Cheers.
I feel like the diagram pictured on page 23 in the rule book contradicts the conveyor belt system of movement and attacking that you're describing. In the example, doing it your way, 4 and 3 would merge and then move up together, instead of two separate movements. (you would need to see the picture in order to understand what i'm saying) Also... it states on page 13 that you start with the swarm closest to the top of the formation, each swarm attacks. If two swarms are in the same position, the swarm on the left side of the formation attacks first. To me it seems more like a direct top to bottom system and when you have Genestealers on the right side, you resolve those immediately after the left side, then moving down to the next card until you reach the bottom position. These examples make me wonder why you would work from the bottom right position card first, then move up when on the right side, like you're describing.
I also noted this - rule book p13 says to start GS attacks at the swarm closest to the top of the formation and to the left if there are swarms on each side of the marine.
+DadsGaming I just played my first solo game. Managed to reach location 3 before my last Space Marine was torn limb from limb by the hordes of Genestealers that surrounded him. This game is hard but I like it.
At minute 18:43 there is a shifting action executed as a result of Brother Valencio being killed which I think it's correct but a few second there is a correction pop-up stating that "The vent card should have moved up". Am I missing something? Can someone please explain why the vent card should have moved up ? The rules state: "Shifting is resolved by taking every Terrain card, Space Marine card, and Genestealer card in the smaller segment of the formation and moving them (up or down) to fill in the slain Space Marine’s previous position." and "When shifting, note that it is possible for more than one Terrain card to be in the same position."
At 12:38, the red team support ability is to be taken at the END of the event phase not before. So you would have to wait until the event card is pulled and Genestealers are spawned BEFORE using the red support teams ability. So at 13:45 after you pulled the event card is when your Marines with support tokens may use that ability.
Awesome video. what did you use to produce it? I have the full adobe suite but no very little beyond cutting and simple titles. Also what kind of sleeves did you use? I just ordered this and like how solid the sleeves look.
+Shane and Stuff thanks. I use after effects and premiere and Maya for 3d stuff. The clear plastic sleeves are from Fantasy Flight. The game has a card number for sleeves. Just look it up on their site.
I just stumbled across this video yesterday, and I'm so glad I did. I was looking for another solo game to play, and I'm a big fan of Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, so what better option than another end of life game from the now defunct Fantasy Flight/Games Workshop license agreement. :) I went right out and picked up a copy of the base game with the Space Marine expansion pack off of eBay. Not sure if this channel is still active, but I just wanted to say your explanation of the rules and the time you put into this video is among the best I've seen, so I hope you haven't abandoned this. I also wanted to say your foam core dice tower looks great! Did you make it from a template that you could share or did you come up with it yourself? I assume you used sticker paper of some kind to jazz it up? Looks like a trip to Michael's is in order. Thanks again!
Great review, tutorial & play through! Been looking at this for awhile and you've helped make up my mind...so basically if my wife yells at me for buying another game, I'm blaming it on you. :-)
Great video... so well done! I've had my eye on this game for a while and this was a wonderful overview. So... worth the buy as a solo game? What was your total solo play time?
7:23 you mention one genestealer is not considered a 'swarm' but the rules terminology list defines a swarm as 'one' or more genestealers. So that would mean one genestealer is indeed a 'swarm'?
+youquisite I've heard great things about Mage Knight as a single player but after reading about set up and time it takes, I prefer death angel. I got things to do during the day and Death Angel is pretty quick to set up and play at night when the kids go to bed. But that's my situation. If you can leave a boardgame out for days without anyone touching it then go for mage night and try it out. The other fun game for single player is Elder Sign btw.
Broodlords. Here is the instructions from FF. "Broodlords are exceptionally powerful Genestealers. These deadly foes are only spawned when specifically instructed. Their cards feature two movement icons meaning that swarms with Broodlords will move twice as often as normal swarms. Also, every time a player rolls the combat die to defend against a Broodlord swarm, subtracts 1 from the die roll. If that weren’t deadly enough, Broodlords must be the last Genestealer killed in a particular swarm. Meaning players will have to slay all other Genestealers before being able to attack the Broodlord." Hope that helps
Question, at 19:51 do you move the genestealers that are already on the board THEN place more depending on the location or do you place the genestealers THEN move the ones that are on the board?
Hi thanks so much for this video , it helped a lot for our first play through tonight...Is there anyway you could post some pics of your dice tower i need to make one ...just need so more info on it?
glad it helped you out. funny enough I'm making a video about some dice towers I made. It's just foam board with some metal charms glued on I found at a craft store.
More are planned (simpler games) I just don't have time. Thanks for the kind words. I have done a Talisman video series. ua-cam.com/video/08m6z58sTrU/v-deo.html
Great video, really well done and put together, loved it all. At the end though you were definitely dead. p22 of the rulebook: "If the moving swarm would move off the top or bottom of the formation, then the swarm instead flanks." and from flanking on the same page "If the swarm is already behind the Space Marine, it does not move." So you would have had 6 Genestealers behind you which you couldn't survive.
+Facecheck at 24:57 I do show flanking. However I did not know the "If the swarm is already behind the Space Marine, it does not move." rule. Looks like I'm gonna have to do a Death Angel rule clarification video. Is there anything else you saw in the video that I got wrong?
+DadsGaming No, thought it was really well explained and demonstrated. SH:DA is notorious for people getting things wrong, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Been a while since I last played though.
+Facecheck thanks for the input. just realized i totally miss understood what you meant by flanking. I refer to it as flipping in the video. quick question. So if the move icon is up and down the aliens still move regardless if they are behind the marine. Correct?
+Fibr3Optix Yes, I think so. Just in this instance any move turns in to flanking so the 3 on the right would move and the 3 on the left would stay where they are.
The production value of this video is insane. This is the best tutorial video for Space Hulk DA of all time. Well done.
I realize it's kind of randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to stream newly released movies online?
@Trace Kyson i watch on Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
Also at around 07:50 you say you can use a support token to perform a second attack. You can reroll a single attack with a support token, not make another.
I think your win rate is about to plummet ;)
+Facecheck OH Boy. Did not know that.
Good to know! I just got the game and I thought this was why I keep dying all the time... but nope still just a reroll.
You're amazing! I love how you edited the video, making the explanation so much easier and fun to watch! Truly epic! The moment I saw how you started to explain the game I've pushed that "like" button harder than I could and subscribed! You're an artist DadsGaming, those rare kind!

getting this back to the table. This is the best video for this game. good stuff.

I bought this game 2 years ago and didn't know how to play it. At first it looked complicated but after wstching ur vid, it looks fun! Thanks
I added a follow up video correcting a couple of things. ua-cam.com/video/aPxWScUlv-A/v-deo.html

Your DIY dice tower is amazing. I need one!
+Sunny Neuroshima It's just foamboard with materials glued on from the craft store.
+DadsGaming I just played my first solo game. Managed to reach location 3 before my last Space Marine was torn limb from limb by the hordes of Genestealers that surrounded him. This game is hard but I like it.
Yep sounds like you're playing it right. LOL
instructions on how to make ur dice tower by chance??
xBluePwNaGex yes i have a bunch of videos planned. i want to get back into making videos again. that topic is one of them.
subbed! will be waiting for it!
Great Video!!! I would like to know, how you make this small dicetower...
I just recieved Space Hulk Death Angel through a math trade and your video really helps to figure out the game. Thank you!
+Wouter Cordewiner thanks glad it helped. Be sure to see my small video about 2 rule corrections in the description.
At minute 18:43 there is a shifting action executed as a result of Brother Valencio being killed which I think it's correct but a few second there is a correction pop-up stating that "The vent card should have moved up". Your explanations are really amazings thank you !
This video is so good, thanks a lot!! Please keep on making great videos about board games!
Thanks for the video. I just picked up DA and this video helped translate the manual into how the game actually plays. Thanks!
At 12:38, the red team support ability is to be taken at the END of the event phase not before. Hallo kannst du mir bitte das noch einmal mit dem Germanischen Basebad erklären .Danke
Translation: Hello, can you please explain that to me once again with the Germanischer Basebad. Thanks....
Uhm.....
Are there any other solo games similar to this?
Warhammer Quest the card game is not the same but close. Lord of the Rings LCG is another good card game that can be played solo
Great tutorial! I love how you use these overlays to show details of the cards.
Great video!! I am debating between getting this or mage knight to play solo. Thoughts? Which would you suggest? Great reviews btw! Thanks a bunch!
