    Nice mate, though I don't totally agree with saying that on a sunny day you need to keep your subjects in the shade. I think even lighting is more important which can be achieved both in the shade or in the sunlight.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому

      True. I just find that typically in shooting in super sunny situations that I get too much eye squinting from my subjects unless I backlight them. Which I don't prefer backlighting.

      So for those shots I'm still using single point focus and I just move the square with the little joystick. I don't shoot them the whole time they're walking, just closer to where I want the actual shots.

    Nice to see you use the XT3 as photo camera. Seems perfect for these circumstances. It looks really good!
    Though I just can't get used to use my XT3 for photography as well. I prefer my 'mirror' Canon camera because of the hand placement and skin colors.
    But I do use the Xt3 for filming and that's amazing.

    John, what setting do you normally keep your top left dial on - S, CL, CH? In the videos I've been watching I don't notice you changing that dial, so I'm guessing maybe CL? Whenever I have it on CH it tends to double-shot each picture. I actually shoot JPEG (I know, I know, but it's Fuji, so come on!) and I tend to take most of my shots on BKT with 3 different film sims and when I want to rapid fire I just use my finger, and it always keeps up with me, even with little children running around, but I'm going into weddings and thinking about how you do the ceremony kiss/twirl shots. Thanks!

    Interesting choice with lenses also. Most photographers would use a long fast prime when doing a portrait session like an 85 f1.8 or 70 - 200 f2.8, but with your shots just about the entire frame is in focus i.e. very little bokeh

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому

      I've always been a huge fan of how intimate photos feel. While bokeh is nice on longer lenses you and see/feel the fact that the photographer is so far away from the couple. Loosing that bit of intimacy like you're actually there. Or the same intimacy that the couple is feeling. Where as with wider lenses you really feel like you're there with the couple and can feel the moment. That's why I tend to use shorter focal lengths.

    i love these videos. i'm still struggling to fall in love with my xt3, since I've been used to my canon for over 10 years. i really believe once i get used to how fuji does color, and when i can buy a prime lens (all i have is its kit lens), it'll be better. the camera really impresses me, but i do need a lens that will give me some confidence. I'm so used to my 50mm for my Canon, and its hard not be able to have that bokeh for my xt3, atm.

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому

      Yeah. It can be a weird change at first and does take some getting used to. What camera profile are you using while you're shooting? That can also help with the colors and things as well. But it does take some time. Just stick in there with it. And honestly maybe it's just not for you. It's something you have to sit down and really think about.

    Hey john! I want to know if you’ll be “upgrading” to the xt4 when it’s released? I’m not sure whether I should get an xt3 or hold off for an xt4. The main thing im looking forward to is IBIS for low light situations. Thoughts? Thanks man

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому +1

      I’m probably going to grab one and test it out. I honestly think for a stills shooter it’s not much of an upgrade. IBIS is cool but if your shutter gets to low you’re growing to get blur from moving subjects. So I
      M not sure if I’m goi
      No to be keeping my X-T4.

    Good stuff John! I would try to avoid some of the mirrored hand positions in some of these poses. You always want to make sure the couple is not matching each other’s hand/arm placement. Also on the spin/twirl shot it’s best to have them use the hands away from the camera so neither of their faces are blocked.

  • @game00034

    What aperture do you normally use? Do you shoot with the lenses wide open. I find it hard sometimes to get the both individual in focus when shooting wide open

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому

      I do normally shoot wide open. Since I'm using the f/2 lenses and Fuji is crop sensor that equates to almost f/4. So wide open is really good as far as getting things in focus. The only other thing that could throw that off is how you're posing your couples. Are they really far from each other as far as how you're posing them?

    Beautiful session John were you shooting wide open with the 56mm?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому +1

      I switched around. I would say I used the 56mm the least on this session.

      @@jbivphotography I'm interested too. Do you shoot a lot at f1.2 (with the risk of having only the bride or groom in focus) or do you stop down a bit? Thanks!

    do you use two cameras on engagements also or just on wedding day?

    • @jbivphotography

      I do usually use 2 cameras. It's just easier with 2 however it's not necessary.

    What is the advantage of the big leather camera harness, with the cameras hanging upside down by their tripod sockets? Why not just use the regular camera straps that come with the camera?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому +1

      So with the normal camera straps it's SUPER cumbersome to carry 2 cameras. It also allows me to quickly use my 2 cameras. And last but not least it takes the weight off of your neck.

    Hey I’ve been wanting to get the fuji tx3 for portrait and maybe for personal videos as well but is it good for portraits with the 35mm 1.4?

    • @Vulred
      @Vulred 4 роки тому

      Im asking cause i really only see the camera used for mostly wedding photography or film, not much about portraits

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  4 роки тому

      Yep yep. I think it's great. I've been using it with the 35mm f/2 and I think it makes for awesome portraits. Even better with the 1.4 lens as well.

      I typically use auto white balance. But if it's a little too blue I'll just go into kelvin and make it warmer.
