  • Toonami Rewind is the newest nostalgia block on the airwaves and a great addition to the Toonami legacy, but where do we go from here? I searched all over the web to find the Top 10 most requested shows that Toonami faithful want to watch on tv.
You know them, you love them, so let's talk about them. Is there something on this list you want to see, but I didn't mention? Let me know!
Thanks to SlimD716 for the April Fool's Day 2012 footage.

I am surprised that InuYasha didn't make it in and i just thought of another one that would be great to see although it would be hard to air with it not being legally available but Rave Master i haven't watched Rave Master but i really love Fairy Tail and Fairy Tail is my top request for Toonami i refuse to give up hope on Fairy Tail airing on US TV anyways if Rave Master is as amazing as Fairy Tail then it would be great to see air

The dic/cwi dub will probably never air again officially. Toei/Viz has done everything to wipe that dub out of existence. And anytime someone uploads it, it is quickly struck down.
Besides the regularly scheduled programs, I've added my personal unofficial line up, also watching eps of Cardcaptor Sakura (but uncut Spanish dub) and Saint Seiya.

Between the Saturday schedule being reduced over the years, to the Rewind lineup having an hour of DBZ Kai, I'm really surprised there's a struggle to fill out the time slots with other cartoons from CN's library. I find it hard to believe they don't have access to shows that require little-to-no licensing to put on the air.
Afterall, that's what Toonami has done in the past between Cartoon Roulette and other non-anime shows (Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Thundercats). Just seems weird they haven't/can't tap into their own parent company's library.

  • @AussieDragoon

Eh, I think Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon could have been 1 entry since they're wanted for the same reason and likely won't happen for similar reason, especially with versions of those stories already on the block. For other options I'd throw out Rurouni Kenshin if posible, the Funi dub of Early One Piece, Teen Titans (the network can use it to gauge interest in some kind of revival), Cyborg 009 and IGPX.
My long shot, never expect it to happen options are Hamtaro, Zatch Bell (If this lasts long enough maybe it'll incentivize finishing the dub) and Prince of Tennis

  • @datoonamiboi9249

Awesome list here, man! I've meant to put my thoughts in the previous video, but I'll say it here: *_VERY_* unpopular opinion, but I would probably prefer Toonami Rewind to go for... underdog-type shows, for lack of a better phrase, if that makes sense. Namely shows that either never finished its run on Toonami and moved to graveyard slots, or were picked up by Cartoon Network with a clear intention to air on Toonami, but never did. Forgive me in advance, this is likely gonna be pretty long-winded.
*Yu Yu Hakusho* is the top contender for this, no doubt. Moved to a graveyard slot of 5:30AM roughly three-fourths through the series. Not much to say that others likely have already. It would definitely be nice to see it again, this time completely uncut.
*Gundam SEED* is a bit of a controversial one, considering how little Western fans and even the Toonami crew cares for it, from what I recall, but one that I feel could be a potential good pick. As you mentioned, Sunrise has been doing pretty well with collaborating with the Toonami crew and getting Gundam back on American TV with the likes of IBO, and the Unicorn and Origin TV re-cuts airing in the past years, so seeing SEED on the block doesn't sound too far-fetched. Plus, it would serve as decent promotion for the recent Freedom movie, something that Toonami isn't against (Hello, GITS: SAC broadcast just in time for the GITS live-action movie). Only major downside would be that it would undoubtedly be the NYAV Post redub, as opposed to the original 2004 Ocean dub, but I guess it is what it is.
*Cyborg 009* is another one that got sent to a graveyard slot, but CN's broadcast of 009 stopped around three episodes short of the end of the show's run, right in the middle of a climactic scene, no less. Discotek has the license now, and they seem to be pretty buddy-buddy with the Toonami crew, what with their work on IGPX, so I could see 009 getting another chance on American TV.
*Blue Submarine No. 6* is an OVA series I'm surprised I haven't heard more people request, considering its somewhat cult classic status on Toonami, and its inclusion in the 2012 April Fools block. Being relatively short, at four episodes, and with Discotek still having the license to the series, I could see it being a contender for a broadcast on Toonami Rewind, with the HD masters and the uncut audio, with any luck.
*Rurouni Kenshin* is a bit unique as not only is it a show that didn't finish its run on Toonami, but its full run of episodes on CN as a whole. The batch of episodes after the Kyoto Arc never aired on American TV, likely due to low ratings and the fact that they were filler. I COULD see them trying to get the original '96 series, out of nostalgia but knowing Aniplex, they'd probably push for the recent 2023 series. And even then, that's a big "could" considering that Toonami probably wouldn't want to air anything Kenshin-related after what happened with the mangaka (if ya know, ya know).
The *.hack* series has had the weirdest luck airing on CN in the past. Sign airing as a Super Saturday exclusive before that block was shuttered and the show was unceremoniously moved to a late night slot on the SVES block, while their sequel series Legend of the Twilight and Roots aired in graveyard slots right from the get-go, with Roots having it's run uncompleted due to Adult Swim taking over Fridays. To me, it was always clear that these shows were meant to air on Toonami, even if Bandai gave them the shows as some sort of contractual/packaged deal, so... why not give them a second chance? This one's on the lower tier for me since, one, as much as I like the shows, I will admit the pacing in both Sign and Roots is God-awful, and two, it's very likely that this got lost in the scuffle in the Crunchyroll/FUNimation buyout, as you can't stream the shows on their service, so these shows might be a bit tougher to get if they're even in the cards in the first place.
*Rave Master* and *D.I.C.E.* are two shows that I'll lump into one here. They're both shows that couldn't find an audience on Toonami (though Williams Street did try with RM and moved it to Miguzi for a bit) and have mostly just fell into obscurity. Rave Master did get a second chance at redemption several years later, airing on SyFy's Ani-Monday block, of all things, but D.I.C.E. hasn't been seen period since its 2005 broadcast, if I recall. Unfortunately, I doubt either of these shows will see the light of day mainly due to the fact that their rights have long since expired, likely having reverted back to their Japanese master holders, and they've been unlicensed for years, so chances of either one of them getting an airing anytime soon is pretty small, if not nonexistent.
And with that, I think I'll end it here. Those are all the shows that I could think that I could want on the block that most others haven't mentioned or talked about. Sorry for the wordy wall of text here. If you managed to read up 'till here, then thanks, I hope you enjoyed reading and random late-night ramblings.
Random aside: I could also see Toonami Rewind and Checkered Past switching off on odd days. Like, Toonami Rewind could play Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and Checkered Past on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. An equal amount of days for both nostalgia-driven blocks, plus it would definitely help burn through some of these shows much quicker.

    • @JazzMasterSamurai
      @JazzMasterSamurai  4 місяці тому +1

Man, that's a great write up. I agree that underdog shows have been Toonami's bread and butter for years. It would be great if they could get a few of these on air. Most of the shows you mentioned are personal favorites of mine, and I have everything except Rave Master and DICE on DVD/Blu Ray.
