Metropolix for Beginners Series | Part 1: The Basics

- This series is to help you get the most out of Intellijel's Metropolix eurorack sequencer. It is not a review. And I am not an expert at using it.
Rather, it is for those of you who watch Loopop's amazing videos or Mylar Melodies and think "I need that piece of hardware in my life" and then having bought it and realise that it is really complicated, barely scratch the surface of what it can do.
This series will take you through the manual, step by step, and show you how to use Metropolix. I will be learning how to use it as we go along, so there will be mistakes. I have started recording these videos before I have read to the end of the (177 page!) manual. I don't yet know how many parts there will be. I also hope to improve the quality of the video and commentary as we progress along this journey.

Thanks for making this! Looking forward to watching the rest of the series.
I read the entire manual and I am still watching videos on this beast. Thanks for sharing your take!
“I’m going to take you through that manual.” Subscribed.
Thanks. Appreciate it.
Thanks for this series!
Great start, I'm gonna dive straight in.
Enjoy! It’s a wonderful thing.
Awesome, thanks for these vids
Glad they’re helpful.
Great video - thanks. I was always under the impression is was not a good idea to combine two inputs with a multiple though?
The great thing about Eurorack is you can pretty much connect anything to anything and see what happens. You shouldn’t really mult pitch information as that could affect tuning (though you if you use a buffered mult). Otherwise just give it a go. Combining multiple audio signals like I did is absolutely fine.
a modular tutorial. and it's even musical.... What a seldomly seen surprise!
Thanks! 😂😂
Thank you for this video, is there a way or any other sequencer that will allow you to to control each gate type with CV flawlessly without actually moving the buttons in real time, I hope that makes sense.
You can't do that on the Metropolix. You can amend what is set manually by way of gate and pulses and pitch value (set by the slider). ie you can use CV to offset what you have programmed but the gate and pitch patterns on Metropolix are designed for hands on creation and amendment.
Hi, I have my metropolix connected to ableton, but each pulse triggers on each beat. So my kick drum and pulse trigger at the same time. Am I doing something glaringly wrong? I have divide set to 1. Thanks
What is driving the clock? Internal or Ableton. If it's Ableton you might need to change the signal setting that Metropolix is expecting. Can go from 1PPQ to 16PPQ.
@@JonKayeLearning hi ableton is configured as the clock. I will check those settings. Thanks
@@JonKayeLearning that sorted it! Thanks
Perfect! Glad it’s working.
Can you tell me which module you use oscillator into metropolix??
I’m using an Intellijel Dixie II+ as the oscillator for Track 1
@@JonKayeLearning I am so grateful to tell me it! :) Thanks!
@@JonKayeLearning And wha drum module do you use for Metropolix? Good vibes!
@@tomoyauesaka4604 I’m using a Roland TR-8S for the drums. The metropolix can’t really sequence drum modules.
@@JonKayeLearning how do you sync Tr8s with Metro? I noticed that roland has midi out but metro only has clock input.
A musician doesn't like to read manuals.
How to recognize a good musician?
A good musician is the one who reads the manual!
