  • We started salvage gameplay with a tier 0 implementation focused on hull scraping, but what could be next in the gameplay loop? Let's talk options here!

    I think the saw blade room on the Reclaimer is intended for recycling air frames. Once the components and hull are removed it can use its arms to tear frames into smaller pieces to be fed into the saw room. The Vulture has a similar system with the red tractor beams along the inside of its arms and a small door air frames can be fed into.

    Salvage and Repair are going to be my jam. I see them going hand in hand in game. I can't wait until the day that I can serve as an engineer on someone's ship repairing battle damage and keeping us in the fight. Channeling my inner Scotty! Your idea about Titan Suits is genius!!

    I'm looking forward to crunching up entire ships, and going in there to take out components first. I'm hoping that power and security systems will come into play. I assume that hull stripping will be the base level of salvage, and not necessary for full scrapping, but possibly yields more. We will have to wait and see.

    I think the muncher is for the skeleton. So scraping takes off the skin, munching chews up the skeleton. And then T2 (3?) will probably be outgassing and liquids, along with pulling components. So that munching will be the absolute last thing you do. For that matter, you might need to go into the ship and disconnect and vent things before you can even hull-scrape - that would make sense. So the scraping is easy, but the prep work isn't.

      I hope the Starfarer will be able to salvage liquids from a wreck.

    I don’t expect hulk stripping to become much more than a power washer simulator. That would make sense as the T0 level and I’d think it to be economically similar to mining gems with a ground vehicle. I think skill will come in more when cutting and munching comes into play. Detecting and removing volatile components/ materials. Safely removing components as no to damage them. Maintaining a hull’s structural integrity during the component salvage stage. Salvage drone management. CIG definitely has options.

      You kids who condense something down like this are pathetic, it was always said that hull stripping would be like that and gamers delusions of being exactly like the concept art just shows how little they understand in their fictional world where anything is possible in their own head.

    There are more then just 2 salvage modules like you claim at 02:55. There are 3, Cinch, Abrade and Trawler. These can all be purchased at Cousin Crow's. I also noticed you were just a couple of meters away from the target ship you were hull scraping, to the point where you were bumping into it multiple times. It doesn't go faster by being closer, there distance bar on the HUD showing you how far away you can be, for the Abrade it is 150 meters. It is also pointless to continue scraping when the box in the rear is being ejected as all the material you scrape up in the meantime is just wasted and doesn't fill your bar.

    I would love to know what the mysterious Snub craft that is supposed to be included with the Reclaimer will be used for? STL I love your thought of using the Titan Suit for precision extraction and would almost rather have that than the Snub Craft. Or have the Reclaimer come with a couple of Titan Suits to move large items like Ship Weapons that are too heavy for the handheld tractor.

    … and of course there’s the possibility that the wreck has some cargo in her hold.
    An EVA to assess the freight and components before we start hull stripping could make the wreck a LOT more valuable than it first appears.

    Be nice to have the wipe finally implemented, and of course be able to actually play a stable 3.18 first though. I am not doing the current rendition so much.

    Any player being able to board and hand-salvage components from a wreck or incapacitated ship, with only a multi-tool, cutter, salvage attachment and tractor beam will make opportunistic salvage a thing, rather than having to go out in a Vulture or Reclaimer with the specific intention to do salvage.
    … but having ship mounted cutters and tractors to break open a hull to pull larger components out will deepen the loop to its full potential.
    I still think some sort of EVA should be necessary to get the components free, but LARGE components should require the use of ship mounted cutters to make a hole and ship mounted tractors to pull it free.
    Perhaps the claw could do both of those things quicker and the Vulture would have smaller salvage equipment, so that each ship and hand tools only, could access different sizes of component.

  • @arrclyde4325
    @arrclyde4325 Рік тому

    I don't think you use the claw on the Reclaimer for anything other than holding and munching. The Vulture hase those cutting lasers and the tractor beam array along its arm to the muncher.
    For components, i am pretty sure you have to get out of the ship and into the wreck. This will be done in person on the Vulture. On the Reclaimer you still have those drones (the Reclaimer has a dronebay).
    Personally, i am mor interested in FPS salvage with a dedicated (rifle like) salvage tool and component extraction. It can be just as profitable as ship salvage but you don't need a salvage ship for it.

    I think hull scraping should be kept as the “low skill, low reward” aspect of salvaging. Then stuff like salvaging components should be more risky, with the possibility of things like power plants exploding, or components being damaged by improper removal.

    • @Glathgrundel
      @Glathgrundel Рік тому

      Component recovery should always involve some sort of risky EVA with hand tools, maybe even larger specialty tools as we’ve seen in concept, for quicker results.
      Hull scrapping should be the easiest, least risky and least profitable version of salvage, since RMC being as valuable as Quantanium just doesn’t make sense … it’s only metal, after all.
      Components should be worth between 50% and 80% of what they cost to buy, depending on their age and condition.
      Buying salvaged component and repair/reselling them could also be a viable trade for the player base/homestead feature. A location to buy cheaper ship components for players who know a guy.

    I like the small stop after "cutting pieces of ships" lol were you afraid you said something else? Also how does this video just get 1.5k views, this is unbelievable. Really youtube these days...

    Gonna have to pass on the salvage. That vulture needs that exit rear\exit zerog needs better control, the ladder is trash and the stop to move little boxes every other box is irritating. I'll stick with breakin rocks.
