  • Written, composed and performed by Pt. Jayanta Bose.
    Tabla by Debojyoti Bose.
These two bengali songs are from his (one of the first and foremost) pioneering experimental album in 1987.
In the inlay Pt. Ravi Shankar acknowledged that :
"I have always been attracted to and appreciated the song compositions of Shri Jayanta Bose. He is a remarkably talented musician, composer and a lyricist!
One is always amazed by the surprising twist one finds in his composition both in the words as well as in the melody. I am sure that the bouquet of the songs in this cassette will find a place in the hearts of the music loving people.
I wish him all the success he richly deserves."
    Ravi Shankar
    Chicago July 6th, 1987
Just adding a fact that this live recording is done when the artist was about 30 or 31 years old. One who is attached with singing/musical performance can easily imagine the incredible accomplishment in that age. This recording appeared much before he got acquainted with Nitin Sawhney.
Voice, Harmonium, Lyrics and Composition by Jayanta Bose.
    Tabla : Debojyoti Bose
Nothing more to say .......... Just feel the experience.

Unbelievable! If ever there was a true multifaceted genius, he would be it. His songs (tunes) are so complex that few people can probably sing them. He could have been our answer to the masters of ghazals in Pakistan like Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali in vocal virtuosity. He must have himself played the harmonium too. Out of this world...

This was not his first album... as far as I knew. If you want other songs of 'this' album then they are already on UA-cam from other up-loaders. Please search.

I just saw your channel, you are a fantastic singer. I want to tell you something about some of your videos of other artists. The guitar accompanying the Electric Hawaiian Guitar is NOT a Spanish guitar. I play Spanish guitar myself so I can tell :-)
Spanish guitar is an umbrella term for Classical & Flamenco guitars.
The guitar played there is called Steel string acoustic guitar.
Please look up to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_guitar and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel-string_acoustic_guitar
I hope you don't mind pointing this little info. Best wishes.

Thanks for your correction ... I really didn't know... :-) I will remember .. steel string acoustic guitar .... The person playing the steel string acoustic guitar is my father, his generation might have called it on a general term... and I admit that is perhaps not right :-), Regarding the comment on your post, yes, actually at that time, when I commented on your post, I was searching for "Swapno Shudhu Phiriye Aane" as far as I knew it was from his first album, however I was too small at that time to remember exactly what it was, but I remembered the tune and loved it forever... However, I have already found the song I wanted.
      Regards

Your father, wah! I love musical families and traditions.
In their generation yes, that's right. My uncle played and called that too. Nowadays also in spite of internet many guitarists do not know.
Regarding guruji's first album, yes I think 'Swapanmadhur' was the first (I may be wrong!) I listened to that later (first I got hold of this one) but I don't have a copy. But I have the haunting song 'Swapno shudhu'... from another album... glad you found it.
