The distributor down here in Australia requires the store to send in pics to prove they are holding organised play and giving out packs to be able to order more product.
Budget deck videos would be awesome. A bunch of my friends are getting into it but are turned off by the expensive cards and tough to find product. Thanks!!!
A budget deck was already expensive before the set 1 reprint news. I can only imagine how expensive they'll be now with essentially no supply coming in for quite some time. I want to play this game but it's going to cost a small fortune for bare minimum.
@@InVINCEable2326the idea that an announcement of a reprint will make things more expensive is a bizarre take. It’s also not true that there will be no supply until then. Listen to the video. They have held back some supply to deliver to stores for draft and booster events.
It will be very bad for new players if set 2 or set 3 makes set 1 great cards even better. Hopefully set 2 and set 3 have equally high level cards to give new players more options rather than cementing set 1's power options.
It's FFG. If there's more than 5 playable cards in set 1 after set 3 comes out that would be surprising.
My LGS in Florence, AL is holding the boxes for drafts and prize support. They take really good care of all their players for all of the games they support.
I'm from Canada and most of our local stores are keeping their inventory for store events (Draft, sealed, weekly play, etc...)
Both stores in my town are just selling packs limited to 5 per person per day--no price changes though, so that's good. They each got 3 boxes last Friday and they are now out of packs for the rest of the month.
I'm torn between access to packs and having drafts. The demand is so high among those who are playing/collecting in the area.
my store is using them exclusively for draft, for each match win you get one prize pack, and everyone gets an additional pack as a prize pack plus a play pack too. The events are always full though so they run out of product by the last week of the month.
It really depends on the store. I know some owners who will (and already have) kept booster of SWU for organized play and I know some that will out them on the shelf at $20 a pack. It’s unfortunate that short term gain takes priority over growing long term community and business.
I'm a local store owner. The few boxes we have gotten has been for draft events (so everyone can get some packs) but we've only gotten 2 boxes past the initial release

For my local store, the manager heard the rumours of how it would be allocated and bought a lot of stock up from the area before it was enforced. Smart move as now he has enough to do a win a box every week until set 2 and still have enough to keep it on the shelf for regular purchase.
Our store is rationing their remaining stock (daily pack limit) and holding in reserve for monthly draft. Still selling at MSRP and using the OP kits as both prize support and for weekly play participation.
I’m certainly glad I got into this at launch, and I feel bad for people who are discovering the game now. As always with gaming I think a lot of the market is speculation and people impatiently panic buying at inflated prices. Value is always subjective but unless you plan to make big money playing the game as a professional, the big expensive cards are not worth the asking price compared to their replacements.
My LGS is holding their remaining product for prize support but they typically do that with all of their OP games. Last week we only had 3 people show up for a tournament, we paid our $5 to join and they ended up just giving each of us a pack along with a 3 card OP pack and we ended up playing hybrid multiplayer games. I wish they would hold more drafts but they have always put building a community as the main priority. So having something to give out besides store credit does feel a bit better. When they do have a little extra to sell they always limit it to 6 booster packs knowing that people can buy product elsewhere, so this keeps it in the local community.
I am unsure if it is happening other places but stores I attend in Australia are being told by the distributor here that they can receive boxes 1 or 2 times a month but they must be running weekly events and even then it is only 1 booster box for every 4 players. So we have 8 players each week which allows the store to get 2 boxes which they use for prize support

I have given some of my cards that I have tons of to new players so they can have something to play with.
Working on budget content is awesome! Will definitely keep an eye out for them.
Events (including weekly plays) are logged with FFG so I would imagine stores using set 1 product for prize support with be corroborated by that attendance data. Stores that are just selling stuff online for huge markup and don't have attendance at weekly plays could be flagged by that data not lining up.
I have an idea for you mike, to work on your collection. Take your massive binder to a tournament or convention and make a video trading for the cards that you need
Going to keep some for prices in future tournaments. The rest we crack open for players to complete their playsets etc.

I’d love a local draft, but my FLGS is only using their three boxes a month for Premier.
I’ll order two boxes and a starter deck when someplace local offers them.

My store doesn’t carry it but they ordered in a box for me just picked it up today at normal price. They can only get 3 at a time but not much interest around here.

This is my 1st tcg ever and I love it .
My sentiments are the same, which is that this puts a lot of pressure on set 2 to keep the meta fresh, if set 1 meta remains dominant it'll be a rough year for those who can't pay 300 bucks for a Vader playset or whatever. Still good that they're communicating!
They may change what they do next month, but my local store just sold their 3 boxes for the month at regular msrp price, limiting it to 6 packs per person. Got a mixed response from the growing game community. Glad they didn't jack up the prices at all or sell them online instead of to the stores customers, but annoyed they didn't hold onto the boxes to do a draft event this month.

At one of my stores they don’t do draft or prize plays cause they don’t do weekly plays. They sell everything at launch value.

We have ~10 stores within an hour that are running events and using their packs for product, but then 1 store that is doing $9 packs and $230 boxes because they run 0 events regardless of the game. There’s enough locally that it’s not too bad, but still tough to see a store scalping product!

Hey is there a store finder or way to find all the stores in my area that are running tournaments? I asked around at most of the stores I played pokemon at and they are not even caring swu products

The store I TO at we are saving product for draft and prize support.
I always recommend getting the starter, take the green put of the vader deck, replace it with blue and add in a palp and raiders and a few inquis and boom a very viable deck for cheap with a decent path forward to upgrade with force lightnings and other additions.

Not entirely sure, but should be pretty soon
5:58 the language Jim used is vague enough, and this assumption I've seen talked about is conflating 2 separate sentences from his message, the sentence about more stock printed could well mean future sets, it is unclear if set 2 was included in this part of his statement.
The only certainty I want to have about the game is that there will not be a "reserved list" like in Magic and that in the future any card from this set can be reprinted in some way.
I think it's pretty safe to say that they wouldn't be nuts to do something as stupid as implementing a reserved list for this game.

@@LiterallyUnplayable you truly do, they never go above msrp even when they know they can make double, only problem is when a game I play like digimon had boxes for $50 it's hard to buy them at $90 because they can't come down at all

Interesting about the set 2 increased production, because my understanding was that Set 2 and 3 were printed and warehoused already, but that might have been incorrect. Set 2 will be a bit of bloodbath and there likely won't be "cheap" boxes anymore, though hopefully not any higher than MSRP. I predict some allocations this time just because of all the stores who ignored the game until it got big. Get your preorders in.

People in my circle who are normally budget or draft only players were ripping cases like they were boxes and boxes like they were packs lol. This one is on the players not ffg for once. I still have an unopened case for drafting but it’s getting a little harder to justify that given what is happening with the prices.
100% this was the cause of the issue - FFG tried to contain it by not starting tournaments and trying to prioritise OP in stores.
The wave rollout of set 2 will hopefully ease the issue, but unless players adopt a more 'slow grow' approach, it'll happen again
Is hyperfoil Vader going to continue to hike in price or do you think he will go down once the reprints come out?
Too hard to say, depends on so many factors and variables between now and the reprint

@@LiterallyUnplayable no idea, game has been out for five weeks. But I think in one of your previous videos you mentioned Lorcana being about that much and how it was too expensive. I think just paying for three booster packs at five dollars each was enough for revenue for the store.
Leia and Sabine are both great budget options. In general Heroism has better budget decks than Villainy.

If you're a store selling the boxes you get for $200 is the $80 extra bucks really worth the loss in a consistent revenue stream from loyal customers?
I had a local comic shop that had one booster box he was selling packs for $5.99. I went in today for a few packs and he got a new case and jacked the price up to $9.99 a booster. I gave him a bunch of shit and told him I won't be back.
@proof_games8641 I'd leave a bad Google review and contact FFG. Pretty sure it's against their merchant agreement to sell outside MSRP.
@@proof_games8641this is a very old economic debate. Price fixing (ie keeping the price at MSRP) for a product where demand exceeds supply always leads to scarcity. Adjusting the price leads to the product being available, but of course it’s more expensive to obtain. So which is actually better for the consumer? Depends on whether you’re the first guy in the store or the guy in the store with the most disposable income. But your comic store owner is making a rational and economically defensible decision.
Back when I played Dice Masters. It actually got a lot bigger after set 2. It was way underprinted for set 1 and set 2 came out and that is when it seemed to really take off. I can really see that happen with this game too.
NGL - I open and use 4 boxes and I have 4 unopened boxes left. I bought a case for $88/box. I'm debating on selling my unopened boxes and putting that money towards buying boxes of set 2 from FLGS
Before I get hate, I never said I was looking to gouge for my boxes. I'm seriously debating on seeing if my LGS will take my boxes to allow them to continue to sell and run game nights and in return I get a certain amount of credit towards buying the next set. The store is small and the game is gaining traction here so this could benefit me and the store

Very likely it won’t have a “2nd edition” label or anything, most modern tcgs have moved away from that type of thing

I only was able to get the pre release deck and since I haven't been able to get additional packs to make a good deck, I've lost all interest in this game.

My local store here in Australia has only been allocated enough stock that we can only use it for prize support. We can’t get enough product to run drafts and that has already started to hurt our local group. Some of our players don’t want to play constructed because it feels like constructed is pay to win, players who have bought the best cards win the most.
I just want to not have my order cancelled like with my fallout collector box
thankfully, that wasn't an issue at all at launch. Hopefully that will remain true going forward into the next sets
I want to do drafts so bad, none of my LGS's are doing them.

@@LiterallyUnplayable I hope so, it is a bummer. Instead of keeping the boxes that are trickling out for drafts, they are selling them as 2-3 per person per day and then they are sold out within a day or two.

That update was shit. It's not a positive outcome that set 1 will not be available until Christmas.
It is amazing how happy people are that have all of the cards. For everyone else the update was bad.
I love how direct and responsive FFG has been with SWU. I feel like they really have learned from past mistakes and really value the importance of being transparent and communicating with this games community. We saw a similar product scarcity with set 1 of Lorcana and with time it worked out. We're all gonna be fine with playsets of Vader eventually 🤣
4:05 so sorry, but if you buy a box of SWU for over 100, you are a complete idiot, and you being ripped off is a valuable lesson. This game, with its pull rates and resell value is not worth more than that. Great game though, just horrible financial choice.
Value is always subjective. Some people have money to burn.
